  2. On to a new light rigging question 🙂 I've got a RS area light as part of a larger assembly inside a Null with User data on it. I'd like to add the include/exclude options in the user data as well, but I can't make it work. To be fair, I just need Exclude. I tried adding in/exclusion object bucket to my User Data and I tried set driver/driven to the Objects bucket in the light. When I do this and drag an object in, it shows up in the object bucket in the light, but doesn't actually exclude the object from the light. Make sense? I feel I'm missing something simple. Any ideas? Attaching a simplified scene so you can see my blind fumbling through Xpresso 🙂 Thanks in advance? in_ex_sample_01.c4d
  3. But isn't RS kinda the new unofficial default renderer? So when it used to make standard materials for us, now it does RS. This doesn't seem like surprising behavior to me. 🤷‍♂️
  4. Problem is that I tried to change five different e-mail addresses using five different e-mail providers and none of them works with Core4D. You have completely broken e-mail sending system.
  5. Nevermind... it seems the model it self doesn't have assigned textures to it just assigned empty materials... But still it's weird that C4D insists on creating RS materials ...
  6. Is it just me or does C4D by default creates RS materials to imported/merged objects ? I'm importing/merging STL and OBJ models with assigned textures but I constantly end up having RS materials generated regardless what renderer I set as default... It can't be that those formats have internal material assignments specific to renderers right ? I guess there is no way to convert those materials to standard materials either...

  11. Dave, this quote is too great for it to disappear down the internet drain with the rest of the flotsam here, please copy and paste it into some marketing pronto.
  12. Yesterday
  13. I think that is for monetization reasons. Chris / RL used to have 2 YT channels, one for the live stuff, and another one that used to be used to archive past streams just before the new one went live. But recently that has been limited to only older series, new feature / version presentations and the odd specialised tutorial. I think the complete archive of episodes is probably only available to his patreons. Not sure that is 100% correct, but that does seem to be the way it works now. CBR
  14. yeah it was cloud service. the amount of times i crashed their machine as well 🤣 although i would like to own a system/server like that one day...
  15. How do you even set a machine with that kind of RAM ? Was it a computer farm/cloud service/distributed system of some kind ?
  16. That's the Radius of the Clump. 360, 100, 20 The look alsio depends on the fill Hair Count Same presets double Count
  17. I'm gonna keep track here all episodes of this season for posterity. It's also fun watching me ask questions that crash C4D. For some reason the channel does not archive the episodes so if you miss it you'll never find it even by searching it. Season 5 episodes also wanted. Found some episodes from Season 5 Please contribute if I don't post an episode as it streams as this would mean that I also missed it ! As you can see I already missed episode 1
  18. hehe, I don't think I'm one to be sold the dream... I've always analysed products on a technical level... I know very well what these systems do underneath I used to be an avid user of xparticles myself so I am completely aware of what it was capable of doing, I've pushed it faar beyond it's capabilities and maxed out 700gb ram machine once trying to push the system... My main point was there was a certain time where it did more than what c4d was providing and filled that gap for a while... I think there's no harm in applauding some good marketing... every product needs it regardless of what it provides in the end... And we are in the motion graphics business, alot of peoples jobs is to create good branding productions, so seeing good work done by Insydium in that area was just an analysis of good production rather than the product...
  19. Haha, yeah, it really is a maze and a puzzle all at once sometimes.
  20. Personally, I think you've been sold the dream. Is X-particles useful? - Yes it can be, but don't be blinded by all the bells and whistles its fancy marketing team provide. Not to long ago I was taken in by all that too, only to find that al that glisters is not gold. Awful technical support, a community that was basically non existent and a very expensive and somewhat buggy product. It's almost as if all Bob's videos were to give an outward projection of a company that wasn't as prolific and well put together as they would like you to believe. Yeah, the 'Particles' side to X-Particles is somewhat functional, but woe betide you if you're naive enough to use their dynamics, fire and water sims in a commercial production pipeline....they just don't work as well as they say it does. I stopped using their plugin for a good few years, finding suitable alternatives in After Effects to fill the particles hole. Honestly if it wasn't for the fact that my current role demanded it, I still would not be using it. Granted, X-particles has become a lot better and less buggy since then, I'm still not stupid enough to use anything but their particle functionality though. In contrast Cinema 4D actually does what they say it can. It's a very reliable tool, and the product speaks for itself, they don't need all the fancy marketing as a selling technique, the application just works.
  21. Oh THAT's where they're hiding that these days ! CBR
  22. Thanks, I know how to get this difference, I mean how to get smaller clumps, like having 100 clumps instead of 10 on the same area Thanks! seems exactly what I was looking for, I'll test it tomorrow morning!
  23. Probably link to download should be sent to e-mail but of course e-mail sending from Core4D doesn't work from months.
  24. About the frame 3 thing: Go to the hair object > under 'dynamics' there's an option 'animation'. Set the frames to '3' (in your case) and click on 'relax'. This will play the animation for 3 frames. After that, go to Hair > Hair edit > set initial state. This will freeze the current state of the hairs. You can then go back to the Hair object and disable the 'dynamics', to make sure the hair stays the same.
  25. We're inviting 3D artists to participate in our "Steampunk: New History" competition, where you can showcase your creativity and skills in modeling and rendering steampunk-inspired objects.Your task is to create a 3D model of a steampunk vehicle, mechanical device, gadget, or invention, and place it in an atmospheric 3D environment to make a stunning rendering. Let your imagination run wild and create a unique piece that captures the essence of the steampunk genre, which combines Victorian-era aesthetics with steam-powered machinery and retro-futuristic designs. Please read the full contest rules here.Focus on crafting intricate details, realistic textures, and complex mechanisms that bring your object to life. Consider how your creation would function in a steampunk world and how it fits into the larger narrative of this alternate history. In addition to the visual appeal of your work, we'll be paying close attention to the originality of your concept, the quality of your 3D modeling, and the overall presentation of your scene. We're looking for renders that not only showcase your technical proficiency but also tell a compelling story and immerse the viewer in the steampunk universe you've created. We will be accepting submissions from March 20th to June 5th.Get ready to transport us to a world where steam power, clockwork, and innovation reign supreme. Happy modeling! RULES https://3dmodels.org/steampunk-new-history/#rules
