S22 Thoughts on Subscription Only

Thank you Mr. McGavran.  Can we get some numbers around point 3.   Using the words "pricing similar to last year (non-MSA)" would imply that the cost for perpetual license upgrades would be the same as the non-MSA one revision upgrades which were offered in the pre-subscription era....which is around $995.

Yes, that’s the price we should expect to pay for a perpetual license upgrade. No breaking news here, several MAXON employees posted here and on other forums about this topic on multiple occasions.
And yes  again, perpetual licenses will die at some point. This is where this industry is heading. Just read the Autodesk earnings report and analysts Q&A to understand how powerful this business model is for software companies.

This model works as long as the company has a competitive edge with unique features that other programs cannot compete with. C4D has mograph. That's their captive market. Houdini is just overkill for the average motion designer who integrates a bit of 3D in his/her workflow. As long as they stay ahead in this field, they can charge whatever they want.

I’m still ok to pay for now because I can afford it but this program has become highly fragmented and lost a lot in terms of perceived value compared to 10 years ago. Back then I used to have a great render engine and an acceptable particle system with BP, the leading UV/texturing tool in the industry.
These modules are now outdated and require external solutions (substance, x particles, TFD, octane/redshift etc), while the price of the program kept increasing.

when I read that AD might offer an indie license of Maya for 250$/year (already the case for 3ds max), I cannot help but think that MAXON will have to revise its prices down if they want to keep their indie users, who actually made C4d the successful program it is today.

Those " Pros" that switch to free Blender..will they pass on their savings in production costs to their established clients? Will they F...........

Actually thinking about it...Marx would love this topic. There is no "Middle Class" there are only The Workers and those who own the means of production. Blender is a pure example of Software Socialism / Anarchy...but what would he have to say about those who gain profit from paid extensions/ plugins to blender ? If the only app was Blender the paid for plugin developers would own the means of production for those niches.. If the plugin developers were a cooperative ? If the plugin developer was a sole trader ?There is a Doctorate to be had here..........

Blender is free market, the contrary of Marxist socialism where coercion is the paradigm.

Now after that interlude, i noticed no reference about the MSA of users with R21...and the so called S22

Don't tell me you are one of those persons that think or just says the concept of profit is only applicable to money...when you as Marxist trade and seek profit on power. over other people current free decisions.

I don't have a version of C4D, it was a race between Blender and C4D. I did not tested recent version but since i have to keep my options open and i am interested in medical simulation C4D is,  lets call it at this time "distant option" until i can be very comfortable with Blender. . I still think that C4D has better GUI and the interface is more logical. When i use it i feel at home, it is a bit difficult to explain the reason, it is more emotional, but functionality wise it has too much friction to use after the attractive and first contact. C4D does not flow.

I was stumped by C4D  obnoxious modeling tools  compared to my beloved Softimage XSI. i mean in 2018 i was complaining after testing C4D that when i deleted a polygon the points remained, it seems i had returned to the first years of XX century....then one of the MAXON guys in cgsociety did not see anything wrong with that...a painful exercise with C4D splines followed and that made me wait, not even  3Ds Max level can reach. While the points issue was "fixed" in some later version, other contextual  things got worse and only Redshift which i had contact in Softimage was a positive, but as a plugin to be paid which already existed... For me that did not paid any of Studio the news of renting is attractive than paying a full Studio, but trust essential for continuity and future  so trumps price.   The biggest cost of choosing a software is learning it. It is not price. See, cost like profit is not only about money.

Plus Blender keep getting better. much faster than C4D  Free market in action! Choice.

1. I am not a Marxist

2. If you do not own or use cinema 4D why are you here berating MAXON and their sales model ?

HELP !! HELP !! I'M BEING REPRESSED !!

He has any right to come here and discuss maxons price structure. As long as he is not unfriendly or trolling. Something that can be found in this forum unfortunately.

Of course he has every right. Yeah far to many people being unfriendly I mean If I was a Marxist I may have taken offence . I was not questioning his right, everybody has the right to do whatever they wish in this existence..I have the right to question them, support them oppose them or ignore them...I was questioning his motives. Perhaps he wants MAXON to make Cinema 4D free like Blender ? But as he states he does not like the program and finds difficulty in using it, I assume demo versions, what would be the point ?

Jops..reading your posts on subscriptions you stated "However, MAXON is now a subsidiary of Nemechek (sic). And I’m afraid that’s where the problem lies. Profits that must have been made in the last 15 years were probably more likely to be skimmed off than to go into development" are you suggesting fraudulent activity at Nemetschek ?

No. every company has the right to decide how much money it wants to reinvest.
