Houdini Tests and Impressions

Recommended Posts

One thing that I've always been curious, but never heard many people talking about it...
How is the character animation features on Houdini?
Have you seen anything related to it @Igor ?

I've never considered Houdini to be honest.. because.. the complexity scares me.
But a friend just pointed out that I can buy houdini (1 year rental) for quite cheap on steam.. and... it made me a little bit curious 😮

Great stuff Igor. WIth ur knowledge of c4d/xpresso houdini probably is a great fit for you. Fun to see this post here in these forums 🙂  What some studios do to keep things more simple/efficien

It's something I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 39kj2PmOtw.mp4

Cheers Das! Yeah I'd say you're right there 😅. I was finishing some Ascent lesson around that time which were in Redshift so most likely needed the license for those renders. 2020 such a blur.

So far I only checked rigging and it super easy for basic stuff, didnt checked more advanced setups.

What I can tell you is that you dont need to fear it, you just need to understand that is totally different from other 3D apps. Like 360 different, only knowledge  you can transfer is general 3D stuff, that still applies, everything else is different. Saying that that’s no necessarily a bad thing. Once you start digging it, sky is a limit.

And yes, indie licence is around 250€ for a year and you get the updates. You also get two CPU renderers, Mantra and Karma, Karma is still in beta, Mantra is old, slow but capable. RS licence seems to be valid if you already own it for e.g. C4D so you dont have to buy it and RM is totally free without any limitations for non commercial use, otherwise 565€ perpetual I think.

So, nothing to fear, just understand its different... :)
