Can I stop deformers from disappearing when I 'make object editable' or export?

Hi there

I was wondering if I understand and am using deformers properly...

For the record I ONLY use c4d for modelling - not animation.

A problem I am having is that when I make objects editable or export them as models to use in other software the deformers disappear. For example:

If I am using the spline wrap on a cylinder - when I export it I just get the original cylinder and the spline - not the cylinder wrapped around the spline.

- Is this because the deformer just creates an illusion of different geometry for rendering/animation purposes? Is there a way to make this a permanant modelling change so that I can use it in other software/turn into tech drawings etc? Otherwise this makes many of the cool functions that make c4d worth using a bit pointless? (Rhino is calling louder by the day, uhoh...)

Thanks for reading :)
