How to bake Normals from Geometry?

Here is a geo to normal bake using the Bake material tag on a flat plane:

Enable Normal and a slot for geo appears. Drag model into it and swatch x&y

Multiple objects need to be booled together since C4D only recognizes connected meshes it seems

Second pic is the rendering using the baked normal map on the plane

I once found a normal map shader on the internet somewhere

You can 100% create it in cinema as normal maps are simply geometry lit by 3 colors, you can do it with a directional light setup even

Works perfectly fine, seems to use the gradient method mentioned before

If I am not mistaken then this method should also be more accurate than baking to a plane traditional style because you are directly rendering the geometry and not projecting it onto something else (or Im being stupid right now, but I vaguely remember this being superior to my plane bakes)
