typical case of чушь собачья vs truth

srek, you are frequent here and I see lot of your posts, what went wrong here? can you speak up for company?

I have no idea if Maxon was that sponsor or not. I am not involved in this kind of thing at Maxon, i am a UX designer, not marketing or related.

Edit:

Well over a decade ago i was one of the leaders of the then largest Cinema 4D community over on CG Talk, now CG Society. At that time Maxon sponsored the one or the other challenge with prizes, but never the forum or the mods. I don’t know if that ever changed.

Personally i don’t like the idea of a forum that is heavily dependent on the manufacturer of the item the forum is about. This always has an aftertaste of conflict of interest for me. If the forum needs support, the community should rise to the occasion.

May I suggest that what is needed now is NOT more anger at Maxon - whether it is deserved or not.  The decision has been made and another 55 page thread of everyone getting divided over why, or whether Maxon cares or doesn't care about their customers, or is this a symptom of the changes in Maxon's culture for better or for worse is NOT going to change the decision.

What it will do is reflect negatively on the Core4D site.

I for one care more about the Core4D site, for Igor, the moderators  and its members than I do for Maxon....and by a huge margin.

What the site needs now is members.  It needs more new members.  It needs a huge audience that get's advertiser salivating over how many people they can reach via this website and therefore eager to throw Igor money for the privilege of advertising here.

So please, spread the word that Core4D is NO LONGER just a C4D web-site and will be branching out to other DCC programs.

Spread the word that many of its members have left C4D for other applications over the years and if anyone is thinking of making the same transition, here is a great resource to help you make that change from C4D to something else as well.

Spread the word that Igor is demystifying Houdini and doing a great job at helping flatten the learning curve.

Spread the word that topology matters no matter what platform you use and we have some master class modelers as moderators who can pretty much solve any topology issue you may have.

So don't waste your time screaming at people who don't care or aren't listening.  Just spread the word.

Dave

Sorry...but I simply do not have enough faith to be an atheist.

srek, you seem like a nice chap and if you are protecting your boss then it is certainly a nice cv skillest, but sorry I don't believe for a second that you don't now anything. Igor is obviously considerate and is not saying anythign directly that could hurt maxon. I tried to get him to confirm it on message but he did not. What he did say is that he would never accept funds again even if the sponsor would reconsider which speaks volumes about the guy, so with remote chance of maxon not being the sponsor and being wrong, but i think someone upstairs fckd up quite bad and can't see farther than his own ego. Igor, if you ever opt to live and work in Denmark let me know, I have a position ready for you in our company

You are right. I simply wont allow myself to be dragged into mud with Maxon shills and apologists. It simply leads nowhere. I will help as much as I can to forum but it is sad state to see what is happening. Will certainly try not to psot as much as i would want to.

Folks, lets just move on. If you gonna help us out great, if you cannot, no worries, if you don’t want due to your own reason, believes and so on, I am also fine with that. I sleep with peace of mind and have no regrets about things I am doing here. I am also sure not many people would do what we do without being paid for their time. I am not running business here and I am part of this community for more than a decade. Will be at leat part of it for two more decades, w are not going anywhere. 😉

Cheers, an please, lets start with positive things from now on. To start with it, next week will be big and exciting. SideFX will finally announce H19, which will include Karma XPU renderer, Vellum fluids and tons of other things. :cowboypistol:

I don’t appreciate being called a liar, especially not after i go out of my way to share what knowledge i have and am allowed to share. I might not be able to talk about everything i know, but i never lied knowingly on any topic here and i never will.
It is pretty obvious you don’t know me at all, maybe consider not talking about things you don’t know.

I honestly do not understand the anger at Maxon in this thread. And I don't want the conversation to devolve into a grumpy back and forth like it maybe did last time, so I get opinions will differ. And I'm not going to tell others how to feel. it's just on the surface I don't see how anything in this thread warrants additional nastiness towards Maxon.

This forum was titled C4DCafe for a long while. Then it changed its name to Core4D. There's still a 4D in there somewhere, but it's no longer directly named after the software.

Then threads - all interesting and informative - started to appear discussing other apps, Houdini and Blender being the main other two. So there's a dedicated Blender thread, and Igor suggests he's getting more into Houdini, and is keen on recording Houdini tutorials and is cheered up by his work being promoted by SideFX. All very cool stuff. Again, it doesn't have a lot to do with C4D but it's fun to read.

Then a sizeable chunk of users seem to want to devote most of their posts to berating Maxon, telling other users how much a better deal Blender offers, and constantly repeating 'Hey Maxon, Blender gives us choices'. All this is true, yep, Blender does give people choices, one of the main ones being to use Blender rather than C4D. Which is totally cool and fine, but I dunno if this is something Maxon needs to spend their own money promoting. Do they? Does the Blender Foundation spend much money promoting C4D? I've missed it if they do.

So to be honest I wasn't aware that Maxon was financially supporting this site, but if they were, it strikes me (in a mild way) as being a bit incongruous. Not weird, not a huge problem, but just a bit incongruous. Does SideFX spend much time or money promoting C4D on the Houdini forums? Does the Blender Foundation (again) go out of their way to push people towards C4D or Houdini? I guess there might be conversations popping up, but I'm not sure if either SideFX or the Blender guys put money towards that goal.

So having Maxon financially support a general 3D site rather than one solely covering their own app would seem a bit odd. And when I read Igor's first post here - we'll be covering other apps, it won't just be C4D any more - I had to kind of blink and read it twice. Wasn't this already happening? Isn't there already coverage of Houdini and Blender here? I thought there was. Especially in recent days, where Igor is following his interests, and his interest is in making tutorials, and those tutorials are going to be for Houdini.

So I hope the best for the site, and with some recent possibility of new work coming towards me, I might become a financially contributing member or supporter or whatever soon, as that might be the first time in a while I've had spare funds to do so. But I don't get the dismay or puzzlement at Maxon - if it was them - being a bit more hands off with this site, as this site seems to have been taking gradual steps for a while at being a bit more hands off from C4D. And most of the 3D apps seem to have their own forums covering their own stuff, and AFAIK they don't sponsor general sites that have repeat long discussions recommending their competitors.

Side note, correct me if I'm wrong, but if Maxon was sponsoring this forum for even a little while, they presumably did more to support it than either SideFX or the Blender Foundation did - unless those guys were also chipping in money at some point. I'm assuming they weren't.

Srek for years has only ever posted the most friendly, generally open and thoughtful posts imaginable, so hostility towards him seems very inappropriate to me, especially when he's said more than once he's here just as himself and not as an official Maxon rep.

Igor again I hope this forum continues in a friendly and helpful manner. I enjoy your posts on all the various apps, and I like the discussions. Again though this forum hasn't totally felt like a C4D specific one for a while now, more a forum where C4D is in the mix, and other software is increasingly in the spotlight as well.

It definitely will and honestly I had same feeling as you did. Like said I am not angry at all, who knows what kind of new opportunities might arise. Actually one is already in my PM for which I am excited to see where will it go. 🙂 I really cannot complain, and I wish everyone success, even Maxon. Don’t forget I have a lot of friends there, just because I dont agree on their business model, doesn’t means I want them to perish. I dedicated more than a decade of my life to this software, but things changed, I changed and it’s time to move on. My only wish is to learn and learn and make sure people feel welcomed here and we all have fun, I hope its not much to ask.  :cowboypistol:

My guess is when the next version of Houdini is fully announced soon, your posts and tutorials will create a lot of naturally fun and interesting and evolving discussion around it, and people will be keen to get deeper into both those tutorials and the new Houdini.

Equally April next year will be approaching before we know it, that will be another version of C4D. And I should finally(!) be on board to dive in properly, hopefully with Maxon One as half the stuff I'm doing in my spare time is filmmaking, and they have those bases covered.

So I think there is a lot of good stuff coming up, 'fun times ahead' as Nigel 3D Kiwi would always say, a typical cheery lets-rip-into-it vibe from a guy who by my understanding has a healthy lego obsession, mastered more than one 3D app, and who bike rides everywhere.
