Sorry, in my age I should know better than post a lot when agitated, I can see you being designer not involved at all in these matters

This forum was titled C4DCafe for a long while. Then it changed its name to Core4D

you can read the topics on forum where it was clear that maxon forced the owner to change the name even though it was not explicitly stated , it was certainly not voluntary decision. who in the right mind would kill name that became brand over years? guess what i am trying to say is that if this is how company treats allies it is no wonder igor jumped to houdini.

jsut my two cents

I understand somewhat Maxon's decision to pull support. For me, I just want to move forward. Excited for what's next and for the chance to contribute some meaningful content if possible.

If circumstances permit I hope to launch a huge series here on Interactive 3d for the web. I believe it's a tremendous business niche for 3d artists.

Interactive web content gives 3d artist great new business channels. Consider 3d animation that plays or pauses w/ scroll behavior, a 3d character that animates based on mouse location (e.g. eyes tracking a cursor), changing 3d lighting or material attributes based on click states or mouse/window loc. Yes we'll look at the typical pan/zoom/rotate you get w/Sketchfab, but let's see if we can take that to the next level with interactive call-outs or voice-over.

Some of this will require coding, but some will definitely not.

Cant say I blame them, if the forum was backed by Maxon and the admin was recording Houdini tutorials.... or was it Stephen Strange? Cant really tell.

I worked 15 years in advertisement industry, and this is no different than some cocacola sponsor drinking pepsi on twitch.

I am sure funds needed for forum are peanuts compared to other marketing expenses they have.

If we're talking about Maxon here, what marketing expenses exactly are we talking about, because I don't see it. Maxon's competitors seem to spend a lot of time and money on promotion by comparison, including usually slickly produced and managed release announcements and promotional videos. I see none of this from Maxon, and sometimes even wonder how they are still in business absent any marketing. I don't know, maybe they are at a stage where the product sells itself well enough and are just trying to get through the next few to 5 years by keeping expenses as minimal as possible until there is something worth really promoting.

Haha, what?

Check out the Maxon training channel, and watch the 3D and Motion Show, and see if you can spot the occasional use of Maxon products. This stuff streams worldwide. I’m not sure if a big print ad in a disposable mag somewhere really matches it.

Cinema 4D popping up in Apple presentations lately probably also doesn’t hurt.

Thanks I hadn't seen the Maxon training channel before. I see some professional instructional content as well as talking head contributor content, which is great, but YouTube channels are free and can actually generate revenue with enough views, so not a big money sink.

 YouTube channels are free

TBH I think the fact that the Maxon training channel is outstanding and a wonderful resource is more important than what money they're spending on it.

That said, I doubt the trainers who seem to spend a great deal of time each week doing stuff for it work for free. Do full-time wages for staff cost more than supporting a website? Yeah probably.

But the channel is great and even has longterm After Effects heroes like Chad Perkins popping up to explain stuff. I dunno if (Disco) Stu Maschwitz has come on board the show to explain things but hopefully he will.

All great as long as you are fine with maxon forcing the owner to change name "or else" which is pretty much a hostile takeover attempt. of course he started looking into alternatives, what would you do? I can only imagine the disappointement but seems to me you are not trying to see the events fairly but lets leave it at that there is no point in dragging this conversation

It's always struck me as kinda peculiar how there are official sites and forums for practically every software except for C4D. Luckily for Maxon, there were/are dedicated fans who voluntarily devoted a lot of time and effort to set up and run this site to service the C4D userbase. However, since Core4D is becoming inclusive to other software packages, it would really be within Maxon's best interests to set up a forum with company reps to engage the userbase in an official capacity. In addition to giving C4D users a place to dialogue with Maxon and build customer relations, it would also be a great way to cultivate the C4D community, which (IMO) seems to be shrinking. I'm not bashing Maxon, I'm just giving my honest opinion and some friendly advice.

As for Core4D, I give a big shout out to those that contribute either financially, or with their time and effort, to keep this place running, and I look forward to seeing the development and growth of this site moving forward.

Cheers.

Is it just me, or do others also get the impression, that Maxon as a company acts shortsighted and a bit arrogant lately. I really am not sure if the market situation justifies this. They might have grown so much that they have the impression that they can, but arrogance is seldom paying of.

The end of support of this forum looks like someone was unhappy with the general feedback. While this is understandable a company forum that is tightly controlled for the "right" feedback will never be a alternative for a free forum like this. Igor has my highest appreciation for standing up for free speech, because it is nothing short of that.

The more the emotions rise the more I appreciate @srekto be here and I really hope that a general sense of disappointment and alienation  will not lead us to personal assaults. Srek is a extremely valuable member for any forum community if he is at maxon or not.

My hopes are with this forum and as 3d agencies also benefit greatly from this they might be willing support this monthly. I as a forum member I would love to see " adds" by these supporters of this forum. or a list of supporters at the side of the forum also would not alienate me at all.

best regards

It is possible to do so, but I don't have possibility to not "force" you into subscription. So what you could do is to cancel subscription as soon as you contribute annually.
