Maxon raising prices next month - *Capsules* are now more expensive...

10.2 The User may only install and use the Software on several devices concurrently if the applicable license model expressly permits this or if the Licensor expressly permits him to use the Software for other purposes. For Named User Licenses, the User can switch between different devices. This right to switch between different devices is limited to five (5) license releases per day.

Maxon just gone insane or I misread something?

haha yeah I saw that too on Reddit.   I wonder how that meeting went with the managers.. "Ok outside of the price hikes, what obscure restrictive shit should we do to piss off our customers?  I mean let's really dig deep and find some real petty shit to F with them.  Anyone?    5 license releases per day... DONE!!  I love our job, unlike our customers!  Adobe has nothing on us....  Let's keep digging and find more stuff and see if customers will find these Easter eggs...."

Marketing managers from Maxon going totally different way than Quixel, Adobe and Blender. They going to increase prices and closing to make open-sources like additional nodes, assets created by other persons. Just like Cinema 4D Asset Browser incorporated years ago which is not export friendly.

They want to pay 100% more license for scene nodes created by Rocket Lasso for example. These nodes are great but most of them you can get from here Legacy Bundle (gumroad.com) from person which Maxon should hire and many others who can make them much cheaper.

Maxon pays for models created by Laubwerk and from others - this increasing price. They want to use Redshift. Price increase again. They don't understand that Laubwerk plants are not the best in the world and Redshift is not the best renderer too.

Artists want freedom which models, nodes, plugins, renderer they use and they don't want to pay for things which they will never use ! This is why Autodesk 3D Max is still on the 1st place from years, without real built-in renderer.

I'm very happy with my Adobe yearly subscription that I have from 8 years because they NEVER increase price - even when they introduce AI and neural filters to PS.

Shrug. Read the thread at the After Effects forum about how users are feeling about things there.

The price of AE isn't bad but it really could use a core rewrite like the one Maxon has just wrapped up. I doubt it will ever get one.

I can kinda sorta see where the money is going with C4D, even if the core rewrite they just did seemed to cripple development for something like a decade or more. Sh*t happens.

If Adobe increased the price by a bit but also demonstrated a desire and ability to modernise their code, stop AE from being so buggy, speed the performance up etc, I'd willingly pay it.

That is not entirely accurate. 3ds max is the worst example you can bring for the 3d app table to discuss, and i know that for a fact, since i used to work with it and my company still uses it to render unfortunatelly.
In short, 3ds max is one of the most overpriced apps in the world for studios (big or small) that cannot use indie licenses such as mine. its around 2.5 k almost per year and that is only the software. Then you must start filling it with other plugins to make it usefull, starting with its most popular renderer vray or corona wich is paid separately. Almost no one uses arnold in 3ds max wich is the actuall inbuilt renderer (although its a good one).  But it doesnt end here. In studios like mine we also pay for Forest tools (plugin), Tyflow (plugin) and a bunch of other plugins to solve basic stuff like take system and such. In the end the money you spend in 3ds max is a small fortune and c4d is still better for charater animation, motion, and a lot of other stuff.

I believe 3ds max is still popular because of its legacy, a large user base and the connection with the arch viz business.

But i agree with you when it comes to Maxon policies of making us pay for stuff we dont use. I really dont need nothing else but the c4d app. Heck, i eaven dont need RS altought i like to use it. So the best they can do is to give users the power of choice. In studios like mine c4d is used to as part of a pipeline along with houdini and 3ds max. I dont need an extremely expensive software with things i'll never use.

cheers

Damn. I really struggle to wrap my noggin around this. I’ve been dabbling with maya for some time, maya indie is literally just over 300 a year, it’s ridiculously cheap. I really love C4D but every year it gets harder to justify some of their choices.

How dare you be so accurate, stop that immediately

for quite a number of years now i feel like i live under an oppressive regime as a 3d artist and designer under the merciless reign of these a***h*** organizations.

surprising that in this day and age where Ai looms, Blender is free and more compelling every day that Maxon raises prices. Cost of Living happens.. prices go up but there comes a point (that I think we are already past) where you look at maxon one and think... yeah I dont need that.

The best because I had in mind that overpriced 3ds max doesn't have built-in real production ready renderer. Autodesk knows that 90% of users use Vray or Corona. They don't even want to be offensive and change that.

Maxon marketing strategy is like that - "Ok, we bought Redshift, Red Giant, Universe, Forger, and ZBrush and you must use them. Because you are very happy that we bought them you must pay for that. We also paid for Rocket Lasso, Laubwerk and you must use them and pay for that too. We don't have persons who can create such scene nodes internally. We are so poor to hire them so you must pay for their products"

Anyway Cinema 4D is still the best software in the terms that we can create everything without external plugins despite of fact that elementary tools like Line Cut or no-coplanar extrude still are buggy from years which I reported many times :

3ds Max users pays for additional very costly plugins because Autodesk get price for certification them. But Blender has very cheap plugins which can dramatically decrease time for creating very time consuming things also their node system is very powerful, easy to work and improvements are quite fast. We still have many experimental nodes from year...

Maxon One doesn't strike me as the greatest deal. You get tons of stuff with it, but I won't be using most of it, and I only want to sub to C4D and Redshift. Making capsules a Maxon One exclusive could in some quarters be described as a 'dick move', but I would never bring that phrase into the conversation.

EDIT - I wrote the below in responser to the final comment on the first page of this thread (the guy who seemed downbeat about development), and then after posting it I see the past half day's posts have all finally appeared on my screen. Maybe they didn't load before. So feel free to read the outstanding writing below but it probably has bugger all to do with the last five or six posts here, sorry.

...........................................

I get where you're coming from generally, but in this instance Maxon just finished (mostly, sort of) doing all that core rewrite stuff. (I understand there's more happening but they only just seemed to get there last year).

They evidently had to sort out that groundwork. It just took more than several years longer than anyone here probably thought or hoped it would.

Now that they've made it most of the way there, cooler stuff is starting to appear in Cinema 4D, hence redoing soft and rigid dynamics, pyro, the new particles and probably something else I've forgotten.

The laundry list of stuff Maxon really needs to tackle and fix is very long obviously but it now feels like they've actually started doing this, whereas a handful of years back you really just wondered.

But we'll know in the coming weeks with C4D 2025 how things are looking (I guess sometime next month). A chunky release would be very encouraging, a meh release will be a bit of a downer. I don't feel like placing any bets.
