C4D 2025 - Expectations?

Recommended Posts

Hey gang,

It's almost that time of year again! So, what are your hopes and wishes for C4D's next major release?

Do you think Maxon can maintain their recent streak of good delivery?

Off the top of my head:

I think "Liquids" will be added to the new unified simulation system. Personally, I don't think they can compete here with Houdini or Liquigen, but okay, the new particles system is great and liquids won't hurt.

Speaking of sims: I really hope for a big, fat "Just cache anything in this scene"-button. Mograph, Dynamic IK, just everything at once and nicely compressed to disk.

A shiny fresh viewport please!

Redshift is in dire need for an atmospheric model. I hope the groundwork they laid with a revamp of volumes allows for nice athmospherics soon...

Hopefully, there are some more performance gains possible as well. I recently opened some older, chuggy scenes and was amazed how much better they ran in the recent C4D. But speedier is always better 🙂

Last, but not least: Indie license, please!

is it potentially coming out next month?    New VP would be nice, along with the atmospherics would be nice.   Modeling and UV refinements would be good but I don't think they care too much about those as their main focus seems to be on their updated dynamics suite and Redshift.     Material X and USD enhancements would be cool.

As for Indie license, I think that ship sailed with the last CEO.  They're raising their prices next month too.   The fact they charge extra for capsules, old licensed vegetation assets and a handful of materials in a higher price tier shows they could care less about  pricing concerns.   On top of that, Rocket Lasso will surely sell you another $90 worth of capsules on their own.     I guess it's what the market will bear.

  • 3 weeks later...

Last year's release came out September 14th or thereabouts.

Maxon are at IBC from September 13th to 16th. Noseman and Jonas have an Ask the Trainer session scheduled for the 19th.

So my guess is the new version will pop up late next week. No idea what will be in it but there's every chance there will be a decent assortment of stuff, and then something nicer could drop in December or Jan or Feb or April or whenever. Maxon no longer sticks to cramming everything into the September release and the long awaited particles came out a handful of months after C4D 2024 had appeared. So who knows anymore.

I very much dislike the absence of an open roadmap... on the flipside though, the time before major releases still feels like 'the real christmas', even after all those years :')

They could be busy preparing something bigger than usual, or bored and getting something moderately interesting ready.

I hold the middle ground and anticipate some decent new tools, maybe something updated nicely, then similar or bigger stuff in Nov/Dec, March.April, July etc etc.

There's endless whining under Maxon's 'special announcement tomorrow' post on Twitter, but it shows some particles in a tube so it's clearly not just ZBrush. I'm off to bed and I'm guessing the new C4D release will be unveiled by the time I wake up. Someone start a new thread for it please. Fun times!
