  3. Hi all, I am pretty new here, but I am already liking this community a lot and I hope I can make more and more contribution soon. 🙂 I have been trying out Arnold Rendering in the past few days. As you can see here below in these rendering (Yellow Man, Box and wooden sphere) I am really starting up, but I have a few questions: Yellow Man https://share.getcloudapp.com/P8umjNe4 Box and wooden sphere https://share.getcloudapp.com/6qux71Y9 1. Do you think is OK if i start with Arnold Render? I don’t have great expertise in the Cinema 4D Native Render or Physical, but what I like about Arnold is that it gives me a quick (not always, I may have to buy a better machine) live preview and I can see where to put lights and so on.
Maybe it’s not a good reason, I don’t know, but having been years in graphic design, I need that instant gratification of seeing how something looks. I wouldn’t want to skip important things of course, but I feel like Arnold is a good first step. Do you have any opinion on this? 2. The thing I am a little worried is that (from what I understand) Arnold has its own materials and lights, so do you think it could be tricky being stuck with those and not using the C4D lights and material? I have no idea about this... 3. This is maybe redundant, but I feel like when you start a new tool, as big as Cinema 4D you need some gratification along the way, especially if you learn it on your own. Maybe something like using Arnold can give you more instant feedback and make you a better 3D artist? It seems like when you start you spend days and hours with cubes and sphere (@___@), trying to make a scene look decent. Anyway, the rendering here for Yellow Man is basic I think. What do you think should be improved? I feel like there is still grain which I haven’t been able to remove yet. I still need to learn tons of course, but I feel like that if I can play around with these setups, then will be easier when I model something to give it a professional look. Thanks in advance for your comments. 🥳

  4. I just added a newsletter function to the website. If you folks want to be notified when the plugin is released, you might want to sign up! https://terraform4d.com Just scroll all the way down and you'll see the newsletter form.

  5. I agree - the very first version I did not like all too much. A year ago I tested it again, and it had much improved. It will work with PhotoLine or Krita now - not only Photoshop.

  6. You are in luck. I was in the same boat a year ago, and I discovered this little gem: https://wonderunit.com/storyboarder/ Best of all: it is free! *Edit* Get the latest version from Github: https://github.com/wonderunit/storyboarder/releases

  7. AMD ProRender 3 released today for Blender. The major change is support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing on AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 Series GPUs: something previously only available on Nvidia RTX GPUs in the native Cycles renderer. http://www.cgchannel.com/2020/11/amd-ships-radeon-prorender-3-0-for-blender/

  8. A new point release is installed alongside the older versions. So if you have 2.90 installed, 2.91 will be installed as a new version, and the older version is still available. To transfer existing preferences and add-ons, do this: https://twominutetuts.com/tutorial/transferring-settings/ And a free addon is available from the Blender Cloud to synchronize settings and preferences across multiple machines. https://cloud.blender.org/services

  11. Very nice for a first project. Still room for little details like bolts, nuts, metal seams etc... ;)

  12. Just noticed that some of the Pixel Lab products are sold at the HelloLuxx site for 40% off while Pixel Lab is only offering 30%. Now not all Pixel Lab products are sold by HelloLuxx but it may be worth looking into if you are interested in their products. Dave

  13. There is no clear line you could draw. While rendering is heavily multithreaded there are a few exceptions, the other way around interactive tools are very hard to multithread, but some functions still have parts that use it. This is all not a really important question though, not the way it was a couple of years ago. Modern CPUs have very high single core boost performance, enough to not have to look for single threading optimization. Just get a modern AMD or Intel CPU and be done with it. oh, and please ignore what is said about this in old threads, for one, it is mostly outdated, secondly, only very few people who have public opinions on this do know what they are talking about.

  15. R11 introduced 64 Bit support on OS X, something that is now a must to run on current OS X versions since 32 bit is not supported anymore. Mind you, until recently the Cinema 4D installer on OS X was still 32 bit so you would have to install older Cinema 4D versions on a system that supports 32 bit and then copy the installation over. Have an image of R5 XL running on WIndows 10 🙂

  16. It's been ages since I posted any work, mainly due to personal projects getting sidelined by work stuff & ending up half-finished. Anyway, I have a tendancy to just post things when they're done but this time I want to do more of an actual WIP, although I have obviously put quite a bit of work in already. Over christmas, I visited the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford with family & was inspired by a Chinese Coromandel Screen: http://jameelcentre.ashmolean.org/collection/7/10223/10232/all/per_page/25/offset/0/sort_by/seqn./object/17562 The aim will be to produce a lightly-animated picture - I plan to follow the layout of these screens & have a main central picture, with the panels around the edges showing close-ups of different camera angles on parts of the scene. Characteristic of these paintings is the use of perspective where the horizontals & verticals are straight & there is no vanishing point. There is one type of Camera Projection in Cinema 4D that emulates this type of perspective - the 'Gentleman' projection. I quickly discovered that only the Standard & Physical render engines can support this projection. I had hoped to use this project as a test-bed for Cycles 4D but although it can do true Parallel cameras via it's 'Orthographic' option, it doesn't have anything like the 'Gentleman' projection with straight verticals & horizontals. Octane lacks even true parallel projection support, so that was out. It seems even Pro-Render can't support this projection, although I'm far from convinced it's as good as Standard/ Physical anyway. Ultimately the perspective is more important than the render engine - I don't want to just make an isometric compromise. I'm at least using it as a chance to finally explore node materials & the PBR workflow - using reflection as GI. I'm leaning on the excellent 'Chinese Patterns' C4D content browser download from right here on C4D Cafe. For plants I'll be using Forester as always & I've just begun to introduce some. Obviously the composition & landscape is super-WIP right now, although I've put a fair bit of time into modelling the buildings.
