  1. The only footprint I make on the web is here at the Cafe (I avoid all social media platforms). Shamefully, for quite some time I only supported them by buying their products (mostly tutorials) and it wasn't until recent events that I became a monthly contributor. Over time, I hope people realize what a gem this place is and open up their hearts and their wallets to keep it going. We have some top notch people running it -- top notch in their C4D knowledge as well as their character. My fear is that the Cafe is a place that people largely take for granted like I did for all these years. Only until it is gone will you realize what you have lost. Dave

  2. Like 3D-Pangel this is the only place on the web where I leave a mark apart from linked in, and Ive learnt so much here over many years as well as being directed to other learning from here. As well as the administrators doing a great job there are people here that will take time out to really help you with any issues you might have, more often than not going above and beyond what would be considered a normal helping hand. There are people here that actually work for MAXON answering your questions as well as people that are just totally at the top of their game, very often taking time out from what must be well paid work. Im also guilty of taking things for granted and should be a contributor even if for only 2 euros a month, I dont really make any money from cinema anymore but I pay plenty of things that are many pounds a month on subscription, adobe, dropbox, lottery, phone etc etc, I cant even buy a cup of coffee for 2 euros so after reading this thread Im subscribing from today, more than worth it for all those hair pulling times when you know the cafe / core will sort you out. if you cant afford the two euros It only takes one click to log in, is that too much to ask for access to experts that may just save your ass one day when yer desperate. Ya cant please all the people all of the time ! Deck Heres a grab below which I guess is what people are talking about, they seem to disappear when the page becomes less than 770 pixels wide, and dont become clear of the main area until about 1700px wide, but as mentioned many times it all disappears when logged in.

  3. I've used Redshift, V-Ray, Corona, Cycles, Standard, Physical and Octane at this point. V-Ray was a while back but Redshift is by far my favorite engine to work with. It's fast as hell, stable (basically never crashes) and affordable. You also get Plugins for every app they have available with one purchase. And it's perpetual.

  4. Okay, I'll use Line Cut for now. I thought I had some weird setting on. Thank you!

  5. Your object is very dense. 140k of polygons is too much for just simple character and has huge influence on calculating dynamics/hair etc... - head has inverted polygons, needs to be inverted first - remove standard dynamics tags from hair and object, hair dynamics is enough for hair - in dynamics tab of hair object increase a bit surf.radius parameter from 0.5 to 1 or 2 - in hair collider tag you could try increase radius parameter - for more accurate collision hair with surface you could increse steps/iteartions in Dynamics/Advanced tab of hair object

  6. That's only relevant if you need GI and depending on what you're doing you might not even need it that often in Redshift 😉

  7. Yes, you can. Unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that Corona generally takes way, way longer to render out the "same" image due to it being CPU based and "unbiased". I've worked with both for a while now and I use Redshift every time I need something fast. If I have time and image quality is the #1 concern I use Corona.

  8. A lot depends on how wide your browser is set up so I would imagine it looks different on tablet / phone etc. I have a big screen so can make it wide enough that ads appear on sides, they also dissappear when thin enough so I guess we all have a slightly different experience. I haven't got a problem with any ads, only takes a second to click them off if they are in the way, and like hikarbur said some of em are quite useful. Ive seen stuff that I never would have discovered otherwise and checked out a render farm for first time and got free processing etc. MHO Deck

  9. Well the easiest way to do this involves the volume builder, which of course you don't have back in R19, so we have to work out if what you have got can be made to do this. I'm not sure it can, but I can tell you what the main hurdle is likely to be... So, you can model a tunnel, you can softbody the whole thing, or cloth it if that would be more helpful, but how do you get a tunnel to appear in a previously solid block in a way that is consistent with a bullet tearing into it ? You could try a horrible boole of course, but that is 90% likely to produce geometry that is unsuitable for or problematic with dynamics, and because this is all happening with a translucent mesh all the poly errors will probably show in render. That's why you need the volume builder, which doesn't have these problems. But maybe still worth a test ? Alas you don't have the Remesher of later versions either, which could also help. Not sure what you can do without it tbh. If anything comes to me I'll post again... CBR

  11. Edit: A response to a typo! Interesting topic when it comes to the indie model, as it's the world that's changed about the software. Wonder if that leads to a race to the bottom/cheapest as has happened to so many things. Especially as MAXON has a totally free student version. Make me think of video game industry and how they haven't properly increased prices in decades even though the complexity/cost to make them has skyrocketed. Leading to loot boxes, micro transactions, and incomplete games that then have paid DLC.

  12. You could have 2 identical cloners in the same position, one with the 0 object and one with the 1 object. Then iterate through the binary word so 1 in cloner A turns on its object but turns off the same object in cloner B. Here the cloners are staggered - string clone.c4d there's probably a more mograph way of doing this...

  13. CG talks S03E04: Spiders heavier than paint - interview with Vaughan Ling | Heavypoly In this episode of CG Talks - the podcast where CG guys talk about CG, we are privileged to chat with Vaughan Ling - 3d artist, the teacher also known as Heavypoly. Vaughan, DJ, Marco, and Michał(aka Andrew) discuss Vaughan’s recent app development endeavor with Heavypaint. An Interview with Vaughan could not go without mentioning his impressive input to Oscar-winning feature film animation “Into the Spiderverse” and other successful projects. What open source tools like Godot Engine and Blender mean for his workflow? Can one take an unorthodox path in UI design and succeed? Is there life for an artist without undo? Answers to these questions might just be found in this exciting but also laid-back podcast episode! Listen on digital platforms

  14. I think the first step is building trust. So a real name and website 🙂 Otherwise you will only be able to work with the people desperate for work.. If i trust a client, i usually charge them at the end of a project. new clients are charged 50% upfront usually. some clients are charged 100% up front, but honestly that's reserved for those that can't keep to the scope of the project, and i don't really take their projects anymore. But yeah, easiest way is to post on job boards. Art station also has some great artist filtering options which help to find freelancers.
