  1. I think the embedded worked? This is short WIP animation I've been working on the last few weeks. I asked my friend if I could make some 3D version of his companies 2D logo. Another friend of mind modelled the pod and I put the shots together in C4D-Octane. I got some great feedback from one of the classmates of Lights, Camera, Render course about adding some flashes or more sparks outside the pod window. Also on adding more roughness or burn marks to the material. So I'll be working on those next. Sure let me know if any other suggestions or critique be much appreciated. Render times for the first 2 shots were about 4 - 10 seconds per frame. For the other shots with heavy VDB they were about 4 - 9 mins per frame. I possibly could optimise the scenes better maybe. I rendered out with Octane ACES but think I messed up because I didn't apply any further color correction in AE or AP. Maybe I'm supposed to make them ACES too or something?

  2. Hello, just a short notice: FlockModifier 0.7.8 also runs in R23 and S24, and you can now download builds from GitHub.com: https://github.com/fwilleke80/FlockModifier/releases/tag/0.7.8 Still free and open source. Greetings, Frank

  3. The new Asset Browser works great to manage the assets that MAXON provides. To manage your own assets you need to create a database that will copy, rename and reorder all your files. The file structure is not human readable anymore outside the asset browser, in Windows file explorer it looks like this: All C4D file are named 'asset' as you can see above. Image files are renamed too. I hope MAXON can provide a tool that can rename the files in the database to the name they have in the asset browser and strips the database of all unnecessary metadata and folder structure. The old (to be retired) content browser had the option to just use it as a file browser in C4D that shows the content as it is organized inside Windows file explorer. I hope MAXON can bring this functionality back to the asset browser. Besides this wish list I have a question: How can you change an image file after it's added to the Asset browser? Normally you go to the image file in the Attribute editor and press Edit Image or Locate Image but this doesn't work. Is this a bug or is there another way to do this?

  4. Certainly interesting. But it's only industry standard for some industries! I've only every been given 8/10 Maya files in 20 years. And I work in TV/Commercial/Music Video/Corporate and some games! Sure I know its use a lot in Film and of course other places - but I don't often see it. C4D is way more used for me. I've been asked about 3DS which I started on and won't touch with a bargepole now days it's horrible in every respect UI wise. And of course the Killer thing for me is that both Maya and 3DS can only open ONE file at a time! It's insane. Is it 1995? Maya Indie Stipulations - not sue how they police this! Your annual gross revenue from creative work must be less than GBP 80,000. You may not use the license on any project valued over $100,000 USD. Only one license subscription can be used per user or organization As for blender. It's very nice. Wouldn't use it commercially I suspect... Because not one company in the 100+ I have worked for in 20 years ever has every used it.

  5. Hello. The bump issue has been addressed by Igor earlier (your value is far too high). Bring it down to something like 0.01 and it should work. A couple of things to note about your scene: 1. You can MMB hold over any node to get a quick readout of its size. I mention that because your scale is likely way off. Houdini units are in meters, so your vase is currently 30 meters tall. Not that you can't do that, but you generally want to watch your scale from the outset - fewer gotchas down the line. 2. If you just want to bevel the lip, PolyBevel can do this automatically, without you having to make a selection. In the PolyBevel, delete your Group entry field, expand the Exclusions rollout, and enable Ignore Flat Edges. Then turn up the angle until it only bevels the sharpest angles. 3. Resample, by default, doesn't work like a Subdivide. It will add points to segments, while preserving the original shape of the curve. So, if you start with a faceted curve, you will resample to more points, but still end up with a faceted curve. There is a setting you can change on the resample to subdivide and smooth (Treat Polygons As: Subdivision Curves), or you can just use a Subdivide SOP.

  6. Hello Guys, we are launching a company in Germany and we are looking for Freelancers with good Skills mainly at UE and C4D. We will do different kind of projects, so we are looking for all kind of skills. Cinematics, Character Animation, Modelling, MoGraph and so on. Very welcome if your skills are matching to used Applications, but no problem at all, if you are "only" an UE Pro and wont work with C4D or opposite. We are picking the specialists depending on the project. We dont care, where you are located, but we care about good business manners in terms of communication and taking project deadlines serious. We start Operations May/June. If you are interested, just send me here an short introduction of yourself, you preferred environment and a showreel. Best,

  7. Welcome to the Core 🙂 The best way to make this is not with splines, and the Extrude Object cannot be used to make this surface from them. In fact none of the spline generators are applicable here, not even a Lathe, which initially looks like it might be suitable, but isn't, although that could be feasibly used to get to Stage 2 below, with some rather specific spline interpolation and lathe object settings.. But you can do it with simple Sub-D poly modelling and Point weighting. 1. Get Platonic Primitive in Octa Mode... 2. Make editable (C) then go to Edge Mode, add 2 edge loops at 50% with Loop Cut (K,L) as shown, and scale these in slightly to get a basic concave surface. 3. Points mode, select all corner points, get Weight SDS Tool and apply 95-100% weighting to them. 4. Place under L4 Catmull Clark SDS. If you need more curvature than that you can just add central vertical loops around the model, and scale those in too, like so... People familiar with the rules for Sub-D modelling might wonder why I have allowed the triangles in this model, but here we are actually using SDS to legitimately quadrify our base mesh so this doesn't apply. However, if we take the 'ultra clean topo' route, and want to feel truly pleased with ourselves, we can dissolve the 8 edges in question to get this 100% quads result, and its correspondingly nicer subdivision without compromising the curvature of the form, so arguably this would be the A* topology... As a further point of interest for those learning Sub-D modelling is my decision not to use OpenSubDiv Catmull-Clark when there is SDS weighting involved; normally that would provide a superior result to the native SDS CC algorithm. But in this case there is a marked and revealing difference between the 2 results, as shown below, after which it should become obvious why we went with Standard and not OSD... CBR

  8. If anyone is on Indie or above, I highly recommend taking a look at the 3Delight renderer. Mantra is fantastic with its feature support, but it is slow as hell. 3Delight is entirely free to download and use for up to 12 cores, and produces beautiful images, along with being extremely speedy, especially with volumes. It also has built-in cloud rendering that's quite cheap and easy to set up and use. I don't work for them, although I do realise that I sound like an advertisement. It's just a great renderer to use, and entirely free if you just want to try it out.

  9. i always though MAXON should make an instagram version of c4d, which outputs only square renders 1080x1080 🙂 Then people could use it to learn and make a portfolio, would make money to buy a full license. and it would pretty effectively prevent any professionals from using it for most projects.

  10. That's some GOOD stuff! I Love the first shot, especially together with the sound. Two things: The "entry" particle effect could use either way, way more particles or more motion blur. Maybe the particles are just too slow? The "out of the window" view is unfortunately a little low poly 😕

  11. One thing to watch out for is what Autodesk did with the initial release of Maya Indie. Originally, only the first year was at the $250/year indie subscription price and that was then set to renew automatically at the full $1620/year subscription price for the second year. Now, Autodesk changed that on August 7th, 2020 so that the renewal price is now at the $265/year level but current users are a still suspicious as they say that the terms of the indie subscription do change often and therefore strongly recommend that everyone shut off the auto-renew option. Plus, the ability to get the indie subscription is a well kept secret at the Autodesk site and you are more than likely to be directed to Maya Light which is NOT the indie subscription. Here is the link So once again, we see that nothing is clean and clear when it comes "to good to be true" licensing. Honestly, this is where modo beats everyone and that may be one of the main reasons why their users are so passionate about the software as they have a very simple and fair model: upgrade from any past version for the same price under their maintenance plan of $440. Honestly, if MAXON allowed perpetual license holders to upgrade to any future perpetual license version for the same price, I would not need an indie version. That would be ideal. Dave

  13. I really liked the Asset browser after using it for a while, but these are super-valid concerns. It's a horror to have valuable files locked away in a box with scrambled filenames etc. The Asset browser should work like Lightroom - never touch original user data, build a catalogue with meta-info around them. I will return to the Content browser for now 😕

  14. Hi Igor, Thanks again for spending all this time make for a community available to us fellow Cinema4D enthusiasts. Up to recently I had a silver monthly contribution, which was automatically renewed by PayPal every month. With the change of C4DCafe to Core4D I was assuming the legal part of the payments needed to be changed as well, as such I figured it might be useful that I ended the automatic payments to C4DCafe, and instead continue with payments to the Core4D entity. Taking advantage of this change to go with a gold annual contribution instead. However, after my contribution ended about a week ago, I went to the contribution page and could only find a way to "renew" the silver|monthly. All other tiers, even the annual ones, are inaccessible (see screenshot). When I go to the "manage purchases" page, all I can do is renew the silver|month. Nowhere on the whole website can I find a way to purchase a gold annual contribution. Nor in the "Store", nor in "Contributions", nor in "manage purchases". It seems the system sees I previously had a silver|month contribution ... and doesn't allow me to be anything else 😉 And please, just round up those prices. It's quite silly to mention 4.99 euro per month, when you're actually billed 5 euros. I don't mind being billed an extra cent, and I honestly prefer round numbers. *I* never got with the idea behind this "charm pricing" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_pricing) Sorry to bring this up in the forum, and not via private message ... ever since my contribution ended last week I am unable to send PM's, due to a full mailbox 🤣

  17. Or you could get Signal, Chris Schmidt's brilliant plugin from GSG - that would let you do it in a sort of layered way where you can add randomisation on top of existing motion without having to get all Xpresso with it 🙂. CBR

  18. a word of warning about Houdini tutorials, there are some very good tutorials but use an "older" version of Houdini (pre H17.5) which use tools/nodes which have been deprecated or merged into one tool. I have followed some C4D tutorials using Houdini it help with understanding Houdini modeling. this bracket is from Making it look Great 11. all quads, holes modeled - not booled. I was in a rush so ignore the light on right.

  19. Try playing with the values on this - amplitude + freq on the noise, and output upper lower on the range maps. bender.c4d

  21. You could try controlling the deformer values with XPresso, I'm sure there's some nodes for that in there. Maybe hail for help @jed ?

  22. No you really won't. Out of the box Blender is a powerhouse now. With decent modeling, UV, and sculpting tools. It's pretty much a perfect pairing for real-time applications like Unreal or Unity.

  23. At office i worked with Max everyday for five years. I've saved file every n minutes and manually did additional file copy, because had experience, when "unknown error" pops up, Max shuts down and file doesn't open anymore. In Cinema you can do same things so much faster. You can go crazy with ui, hotkey and scripting customisation. About stability i even don't talk 🙂

  24. More Sub D practice. It's still dense and lots of mistakes, but each one gets better, so I just need lots of practice. All quads though, just too many of them 🙂

  25. Well, this discussions are all over the place and on all different Software forums every time when a new release comes out. here is my point. Three years ago I was on the same part that MAXON and Cinema 4D loose the track to the Industry. I heard a lot from Peoples " aa Cinema 4D, yes it is a Mograph Software. And yes a lot of industry standards and tools was not in Cinema 4D for a long time. So I switched to 3DSMax, also because I need it for work at the office. Specially for Architectue Visualisation 3DSMax is the standard with the most tools and Assets focused for Archviz. 3DSmax is great on that but there is so much pain and stress every day working with 3DSMax. short: Now three years later I canceled 3DSMax at home and switched back to Cinema 4D. And it was a coming Home. Today the best thing of the day is turn off 3DSMax at work and start Cinema 4D at home. What a great feeling to work with Cineme 4D. About the Update to R24. for me it is a great update and I feel that MAXON has found the way and focus back into the whole industry not only focused on Motion graphigs. So thanks to MAXON for this Update and keep up the track.

  26. Oh, and by the way, I think an important point is forgotten in the whole price discussion: Changing to Blender is not free. I considered it too, but: - I would have to relearn a lifetime of working in 3D -> Hundreds or Thousands of unpaid hours. - I would have to convert my whole library of assets - I would need to cut myself loose from all my previous work (scenefiles, setups), that make my work very efficient. In the end, for me the switch would be a massive time investment, and at this point in life, time is my rarest ressource. So I decided to stay in familiar C4D-country and just deal with the price. Of course I'd prefer a lower cost, Indie-version, whatever, too. I hope your voices are heard by MAXON. I just wanted to add those thoughts to the commonly heard phrase "Well, Blender is free!"
