  1. The first question I always ask on a request like this is: How close are you going to get? Close up: OK, model it. Not so much: map it...

  2. [Edit - Note: this thread should be located in the "Programming - C++" section of the forums. It ended up in the "Python" section by accident during one of the forums reorganizing sessions] While working on a plugin I got the idea of making this small utility: Wheel Of Tools. It allows the user to set up a list of most used tools, which are presented as a circular palette to select from. Available directly within the viewport. Current state of the plugin is only a concept, and I am mostly focusing on the actual tool selection. The part where user does set up the tools still needs to be worked out. For those familiar with PolyGnome, you probably already understand where I will be heading to ... Wheel Of Tools, once fully implemented, will be the base for a new way of interacting for the main part of the PolyGnome plugin. Edit: While many have seen in this plugin what they expected it to be, this is NOT a radial menu plugin. It merely represents a list of tools in a circular way.

  3. From the album: Rasputin's Gallery III

Human figure is a posed Daz3D model; the dress I did in Marvelous Designer, all else modeled and textured within C4D. Corona 6 Render: 42 passes.

  4. You have to parent them in the Object Manager.

  5. Heh, I would never even THINK about making this grill with polys, unless I'm doing a product visualization for this thing. Nobody is going to notice the difference if it's just a texture and that thing will have 1.000 instead of 100.000 polys. Even the slight beveling around the holes can be done via bump / normal. Having 20 of these, fully modeled, in a scene with hundreds of other objects... oh boy.

  6. I agree with you, maybe they bring subscriptions to compete with Blender, but at the same time they fucked up their perpetual license users increasing 2x the update cost that year. in 2017 I paid 600€ for upgrading my c4d license. Next year they asked me to pay 1200€ or 600€ for a subscription.... Which makes you think, Who the fuck is going to pay 3500€ and next year say: Ok I will go with subscription. has no sense and it's a robbery to perpetual users, the ones that support c4d every year. After all this crap, I just realize I never going to update my c4d again, lose a lot of money... So I start looking into another software, and Blender which is free, has all the support from EPIC, with full compatibility with Unreal. Very powerful and FREE tools.

  7. In my opinion MAXON steal perpetual users a lot of money. Increasing the price of updating license, and removing access of Cineversity or assets from content browser. Not only that, but Redshift is going to remove perpetual licenses too. With 3500€ I could have buy almost 6 years of subscription, but now, I don't have the money and I don't have the subscription either.... only a piece of paper that I own a crappy software R21 license. I have nothing more than hate to Maxon right now, after wasting 3500€ in his shitty software, they deserve every company pirate their software. I really hope they bankrupt soon and C4d disappear from the earth. Welcome Unreal 5 and Blender. So I am very happy now to nevermore pay to this corrupt company again.

  8. The ultimate way to do this is using a technique called Reaction Diffusion in Photoshop but you can recreate that technique in native C4D using Fields: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RWkCLhO4uOvUxLEyXniSavXab4AIBm7j/view?usp=sharing And here is the way using a Reaction-Diffusion animation made with Photoshop: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jUQ2qHjcUfjSQM04vXG0d6p5ro9BmJby?usp=sharing

  9. Shameless plug! Maybe you can use this technique with a different noise type and get some results:

  10. Good stuff! Now add even more blur and shittons of chromatic aberration, some floaties and that thing looks amazing!

  11. Amazing how people can be against an indie version or actually want it to be limited in ways that indie versions of other programs aren't. Well, then, I guess SideFX and Autodesk are complete clueless morons to have their indie licenses set up as they are. Those idiots who care about selling licenses instead of getting sleepless nights over not everyone respecting the license 100%. This is up there with the new concept of "lack of features is actually a feature". But sure, why sell to people who maybe, god forbid, go a little over the $100K limit, or well, not at all really, because they're just freelancers or hobbyists. It's obviously way better if they use pirated versions because otherwise they can't justify the cost since it would cost them the same as it would cost a professional. Oh yeah, and since we're here the C4D+Redshift subscription price is hilarious. You only get the C4D plugin, while if you just rent C4D and Redshift separately it's cheaper and you get all the plugins. But no, clearly SideFX and Autodesk have no idea what they're doing. That's why C4D is growing like crazy while SideFX and Autodesk are stagnating.

  12. Dan, First off...still love your work and still mourning your absence from the plugin market. With that said, I am NOT against paying for upgrades. Here is what I am NOT willing to pay for: 1) Bug fixes...sorry, but that also includes stability improvements. 2) New licenses to match C4D upgrades (eg. same program, no major code changes, just generating a new license to work with a new version of C4D) 3) Renting the same (and not improved) program year after year. Here is what I am willing to pay for via an upgrade pricing model: New major architecture changes to continue working with significant changes to C4D's core architecture -- in essence I do believe setting up the program to work with future C4D releases is a worthy investment on my part as with it comes the potential for the next three items: New features Speed improvements Scale improvements (ability to handle much large object sets, better viewport performance, etc). And here is what I am absolutely dead-set against and where I think GSG crossed the line: Having to buy into leasing a much larger set of products in order to keep my plugin current. Why do I have to buy materials and training if I just want my plugin to work with future versions of C4D? Seriously....what were they thinking? Sorry, if I want textures I can go to Pixel Lab (who offers just as much variety in textures and models for various render engines plus ODB based products as well -- and at a much fairer price --- especially when you catch them on Black Friday). For training, I can go to Core4D, Rocket Lasso, Eye Design, Wolf 3D and a thousand other YouTube channels. Dave

  13. The original Dials was limited to the 3D viewport only. When I designed and implemented the plugin this limitation was fine enough for me. I only use this plugin to speed up performing actions when working in the viewport. However, recently I noticed this plugin would also be handy to have when using in combination with my Seamilar plugin. Allowing to have direct access to the UV tools when working in its own UV view window. So, I went looking for a way to extend the original plugin. Skipping the technical details ... (<yawn> boring!!!) I found a way to get it working for R16 upto R20 ... on Windows. Digged a little deeper and managed to get it to work on macOS ... "kinda". The Dials widget can now be used outside of the 3D viewport, even outside of the main Cinema4D application window. Tested on single and dual monitor setup. The plugin now has an additional colored ring behind the icons, allowing to contract against the background. The transparency of this new colored ring can be adjusted in the settings. I am providing this new version as a free beta-version to existing customers, with no further support. Unfortunately this version will probably never leave the beta stage, as there are just too many issues with R21. EDIT: While not being able to provide a same experience for R21 users as for R16-R20 users, I have managed to get something working for R21 (Windows and macOS). Albeit with limitations due to a bug in R21, which probably only will get resolved in R23 "at the earliest".
