  1. Hello, The UV projections occupied my mind for quite a while, I made some tools to unwrap them, to make the edition easily, add features to BP UV Edit... But the problem was still the same, the UV edition is still boring to do and quite often we prefere to use the common automatic projections when it's possible. I was wondering, could we simply make other kind of projections to fit more shapes ? So I came up with a new plugin, the UV Projector ! It works like a deformer object and only edit the UVW property, it have some interesting new UV projections with the advantage to not have to make the object editable ! Here is some new projections : Rhombicuboctahedral : It's like a cubic projection with the 45° edges. Cylinder with deformations : Like the classic cylinder, with deformations to adjust the shapes. Half-cylinder : Some times you want to have only one side round and the other side plane. Y shape : It's maybe still a bit wobbly to setup but it gives a nice start. The last is I think the most interesting, it's a plane shape with editing points : Simply uset he point mode to move the surfaces points and adjust them to your object, you can literraly wrap it around your object ! All the features and download here : https://code.vonc.fr/projecteur-uv The free version is limited to 1000 polygons count with all the features so you can still enjoy it. The plugin is a part of the Vonc Suite that contains others tools. If you have other projections shapes ideas don't hesitate !

  2. Neuro-plasticity is a real thing. The more you continue to learn, the easier it will be to keep learning. I used to watch tutorials with C4D open in front of me and and constantly hitting the pause button to try new things. What I found though is that nothing was really "sinking in". I try what I learned, figured I had it down and then hit play again and go onto the next thing. Well, in order to fit training into my daily routine I made a change only possible due to the pandemic. When the gyms shut down, I canceled my gym membership. When the world shut down, I canceled all vacations for two years. As my wife, daughter and I exercise regularly, I put all that money into a gym in the basement -- including a 50 inch 4K TV with an ethernet hard line connection to my router (using ethernet over powerline). That TV sits right in front of the Echelon bike and you can see quite clearly the UI interface on the TV while on the bike. Also, having purchased the Udemy Blender Encyclopedia at a deal (48 hours of training for $12), they do allow you to download the courses (about 48 Gb worth). That has been downloaded to a USB drive that the TV can play from. What I have found while cycling, is that just listening and watching, without stopping to follow along in the DCC app, does get things to "sink in" better...particularly if I decide to re-watch the same tutorials as you do need to pay attention to the bike's exercise routine as well. Then, once that is done, you go to the PC and you try what you have learned. This is where you may struggle a bit, but it is in that straggle where things "sink" in and then permanently "set" in. You couldn't do that at the gym so now that they are open, I am not going back.

  3. Thank you BEZO and CERBERA. The hexahedron sphere and distortion worked a treat!

  5. Thanks ! Yes, I made some plugins for C4D that you can find on my website 🙂 https://code.vonc.fr IRL I am backend web devlopper (PHP & Symfony) but I make some Python plugins on my free time. I also make some WebGL stuff you can see here : https://4d.vonc.fr/ I see that there is a group for devlopper yes, I would love to share my works 🙂

  6. I wish i learned c4d sooner. i started to learn 3D in 2006 with 3ds max 06 (the first version with mental ray). At that time i thought that software was great, but in fact didn't had any experience in other 3d apps to compare. Later in 2014/15 a friend of mine challenged me to learn c4d since we were doing a lot of work for advertisement and tv, and 3ds max sometimes was a bit of a strugle to do more complex stuff. That was the best advice i got in my entire professional life. Learning this software was an eye opener and i realized that i simply spent way to much time in such a crappy app like 3ds max. Of course there were things in max that i missed but it in the end it really changed my career for the best. When comparing both apps, these were the obvious things that blew my mind when i learned c4d, and made me never go back again to autodesk c4d xpresso -vs- 3dsmax wire parameters c4d constraints -vs- 3ds max constraints c4d mograph -vs- 3ds (nothing) c4d sculpt sys -vs- 3ds (nothing) c4d bodypaint -vs- 3ds (nothing) c4d character rigging -vs- 3ds max cat and biped c4d object manager -vs- 3ds layer system c4d multiple object and property selection -vs- 3ds (nothing) c4d object morph system -vs- 3ds max morph modifier c4d timeline curve editor -vs- 3ds max curve editor c4d graph/gradient editor -vs- 3ds crappy graph/gradient editor c4d procedural worklow -vs- 3ds max clunky workflow c4d object based modifiers -vs- 3ds max stack (sometimes was good but i prefer c4d's) c4d learing curve/interface -vs- 3ds max learing curve and interface c4d modelling (this one was harder, since 3ds max was also good, but in the end i think i prefer c4d) things that i missed from 3ds max 3ds plugins (some were great) 3ds Slate material editor (very good) 3ds edit poly as a modifier (super usefull) 3ds some modelling tools and some from the ribbon 3ds max UV tools I the end the gain was so obvious that right now i really dont feel the need to return to 3ds max. Thats why i really wished to learn c4d way sooner. cheers
