  2. R 25 - not for me. And I am not a customer for Maxon, we do not fit together, anymore. I am a professional programmer. Multimedia for me mainly is a hobby. An expensive hobby. Although I make some non-profit stuff for ideal purposes, like nature preservation and environment issues. And I love making plug-ins for C4D, I write them in C++. And have kept them for myself, so far, Plug-ins for animation mostly. Seems like animation in R25 has added some of the same features I came up with myself, several years ago. I have purchased all Studio versions of C4D, from R13 up to and including R23. I am getting old, and will eventually retire. But creating stuff, both programming and making multimedia presentations, is so fun, that I will continue with this for many years to come. Therefore I have purchased perpetual versions of C4D, so that I still own my software, and can play with it, also in the coming years. I was willing to pay for the R25 perpetual too, and got a Quotation from Maxon. Nice. That was until I saw in what direction things are moving now. * I am uncertain about to what extent I will at all get some real new features in C4D, before I die. * Maxon radically changed the ting I love the most in C4D - the user interface. For 26 years I have been designing and programming GUIs myself. Award winning software, commercial successful software, and tons of tailored proprietary solutions for customers. So I have an idea about this, seen from the workshop, not only as a user. That Maxon managed to wreck such a beautiful user interface, is beyond me. Yes, you can to some extent revert to the old layout, but not to all those familiar harmonic colors - they are gone. I will assert that the pre R25 super GUI was C4Ds trademark. That was the main reason I chose C4D in 2012. Now, Maxon cannot make software only for me. I understand that. Things are happening in the software business, things that I feel are under-communicated. * Piracy, to what extent is this the driving force behind the subscription model? * Generic maturity, to what extent is this the driving force behind the subscription model? With maturity I mean a generic saturation of features in today's software. In 1999, I would not use 10 years old software. Not even 3 years old applications. Today, I use Adobe CS 6, Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects, and still have not discovered more than a fraction of all the fantastic functions in these applications. So, I think I can make fantastic animations in the C4D versions I have, for many years to come. Worth mentioning, I recently renewed my perpetual Redshift license, and I also have a running perpetual license for X-Particles. Now, I will continue to write C++ utilities for C4D, and make animations and renderings. Having fun in my own cave. And I just have to accept that Maxon needs a steady stream of money, and accept that I am not the kind of customer they need for their future. -Ingvar

  3. Very disappointing what Maxon turned into, all the great spirit is gone with the new 'management'. I share almost the same story... As 3D hobbyist, I purchased C4D R17 Studio and kept it up-to-date until R21 with MSA. Just renewed the Redshift perpetual license and XP / Fuse maintanance for the last time a couple of days ago. I will never rent software and I try to avoid online licensing wherever possible, actually it's only Insydium software that is just too good to miss out. If R25 was a killer release I might have upgraded, but the improvements in the last couple of versions are not worth it to me. I couldn't care less for any future Cinema updates anymore, I will continue using R20 (and R21 as long as it still starts, who knows) along with tons of plugins, Blender and other software.

  4. maybe you could consider reading my post again? I am not talking about the core rewrite at all (which is a good thing) I am talking about the marketing and the communication of the offerings. And these things have drastically changed since McGravan took over. There was a lot of hope back then that communication could change for the better, but unfortunately the inaccessibility before just was exchanged for mediocre marketing blah blah now.

  5. Ok, so just to clarify / sum up, to replicate the Blender workflow, we do this.. ...which gives us this... a perfect sphere with no complex poles. So Igor, do you agree that gives you everything you need there ?! 🙂 CBR

  6. But there is! Just drop this simple script I attached in your scripts folder and then add it to the timeline palette and save the layout and/or assign a hotkey to the script. Auto_Relative_Selected_Tracks.zip

  7. You know what, I dug around a little more and there's actually an 'Auto Relative' function I never noticed before. It's a little convoluted to use, but at least it works: 1. Select the parameters 2. Select a keyframe of the curve you want to normalize 3. Go to F-Curve > Auto Relative 4. Click 'Frame All' (H) It would be nice if it were just a single button you could press like in Maya, but there you go!

  8. Hello Jack, No, I stopped my C4D subscription at R21 and I now use Blender and Houdini in my workflow...like 3DKiwi I was tired of waiting for something useful.

  9. Yes, it is easy to create assets that can be used as capsules. Quite a few of the ones that come with 25 are actually assets and not hardcoded.

  10. ...and by drivers we mean VGA ones. If thats nvidia you want the latest studio version (471.68). CBR

  11. Ah yes, sorry I did mine in R25, which is why it looks a bit different 🙂 Worry not - the tag on my cube is just what your phong tag looks like now ! And yes, we need to place the spherify in a group with the SDS because if you make it a child of the cube it can only deform to sphere shape as much as the segmentation of the cube will let it, which (assuming its 1x1x1) is not at all !!! 🙂 So by putting it all in a group, we can deform the SDS RESULT rather than the cube, which is why it works ! Make sense ? CBR

  12. Oh boy, this works a treat! Now I have something to complain about if Maxon doesn't include this in the next release, you even did all the work for them 🙂 Thanks!

  14. Well, I'm back on my shit. Been buried for the last few months, but testing out Redshift 3.0.56 with Cinema 4d R25. Getting a lot of hangs and force quit errors. Gonna try to update video drivers and see if that helps. Still using 23 for client work.

  15. Welcome to the Core 🙂 Pls complete your profile so we know which version you are working with. This question doesn't rely on us knowing that but others will ! There's not much to that deformer. You set it to 100% for full spherification, and then use the other control to specify the radius of the resultant sphere ! You may be confused because a cube is measured across its 'diameter', whereas spheres and indeed the spherify deformer specify a radius, which will obviously be correctly set at half the intended diameter. That is most easily demonstrable and clear if you spherify a hexasphere (no SDS) directly. If your sphere is 200 cm then your spherify would be set to 100 radius to achieve equal sizing. CBR

  16. also another note xparticles not working on r25. previous years just moving files from old plugin folder to new was worked this year not works and need to update to newer build of xp. i dont know who dit it maxon or indsydium but if i should use r25 and xp together i should pay maintenance to xp too. i dont understan why maxon break plugins on every update. just do it 1 time and let them work as usual. why breakin every time. one of the main themes of c4d was stability. but breaking plugins to rush people pay every yer them too its not looks like stability.

  17. Some of you may have noticed that the odd thing is different in R25, so thought it might be an idea to share some top tips people may not have discovered yet... feel free to add any you find, but here's couple to start you off... 1. Can't tear off the snap menu ? The new snap settings at the top of the toolbar is not moveable, but some of us wish it could be. And indeed it still is - simply press 'P' to get your freely moveable / dockable one. 2. Where is Reset PSR ? Now called Reset Transform that's now in the Coordinates Manager or at the bottom of the r-click menu in Object Mode. Coordinates Manager now available by default in Modelling layout, or via lower right corner in standard. 3. Where has MoText gone ? Now just called Text Object, this is available from the toolbar on the right under T symbol, along with the Text Spline. 4. Where the hell is Physical Sky ? Worry not, it's just in the Lights Menu ! 18. Single rib is certainly one way to go, but I think I'd go for doing it all in one hit on a single cylinder based model. Small selection hit in having to grab every other vertical loop in order to do the extrudes (for that's all they are, and Preserve groups off doesn't help across multiple vertical loops !), but that really didn't take me long... Once I had done all the extrudes I thought a bit of Normal Scaling / Ironing was needed to soften it all up a little... And then we let SDS do the remainder of the work for us, which of course would make this not a hard surface model at all !! So many ways to skin a fish, but the take home message here is that there is no need to get the splines out ! Even if I needed a lot more definition in the ribs than that I'd still do it with polys and on a single mesh so I saved myself all the faffing about with radial alignment and Connects, which very much interfere with our SDS on / off shortcuts (Q) while modelling ! 😉 CBR

  19. OK, here's some additionals... 1. The complex pole on your base is OK, and I can see you have solved most of it to radial kite quads, but it is still a complex pole there, so a nicer solve to quads would be something like this... 2. Even your 'This is how it should look' model has creasing problems around the area where the capsule joins the cylinder, caused by the elongated kite quads and irregular topology there... Cinema's tolerant SDS tries to save you there, but ultimately can't, because there are not enough radial loops in the base shapes to establish your curvature under it, or to allow deviation from them without being compromised. 3. Here is what I would call the 'most ideal' SDS answer here, in so far as we accept that the nicest render result is going to come from not using SDS at all and doing this with Hard Surface techniques instead. But regardless, here is what is possible using edge weighting. But 2 disadvantages here - firstly this transition here... which is better than in your original, but still not perfection... ...and secondly, we have had to step up to SDS L4 or even 5 to get that tight a crease using edge weighting, and of course that rather defeats the point of trying to make it low poly, as does SDS in general !! So in summary, and putting aside that you are using this for SDS modelling practice, this form is best achieved without SDS at all, and it should be of equal value to you to know when to use SDS or not as it is to practice doing it ! Hope that helps... CBR

  20. Capsules are actually pretty amazing. It allows anyone to essentially create a "plugin". Without doing any coding at all. So now any casual developer needs to think if it makes sense to write actual code to create a deformer or modifier, or just do it with nodes and never have any c4d upgrade compatibility problems ever again. I expect to see lots of neat new features coming from the community in future. Even possibly from myself. https://www.maxon.net/en/cinema-4d/features/capsules
