  1. Yes, I believe they are masks. I think I figured it out. Using a color blender I can set the strength of the reflection and then mask it using these maps.
  2. I have a lot of 3d people from renderpeople.com and other sources. These come with diffuse, normal, and a few spec maps (for shoes, skin, hair, etc). I'm at a loss as to how to build this material in the redshift workflow when it comes to the spec maps. Can anyone tell me where I pipe these maps to and how I get all spec maps working?
  3. I have an existing 3d model in c4d that needs to be reworked. It is a model of a building, but it is not accurate to the actual survey data that I have (3d model as well). I'd like this model to be reworked to match the survey data. If you are interested please pm me and we can have a look at the model and discuss...
  4. I'm trying to render a kiosk that has 3 sides of glass. I can't get good illumination in there without turning off one side. I've put Redshift object tags on the glass and turned off the "seen by GI" options, but nothing changes. What am I doing wrong?
  5. yes....the last person I worked with on this did his work in marvelous designer.
  6. I'm looking for an modeler/rigger/animator that can produce some animations of theatrical drape reveals for me. These would be in HD resolution, approx 10 second animations. I'm looking to create animations of: Tabbing Curtain Venetian - Straight Lift Venetian - Contoured Austrian - Straight Lift Austrian - Contoured Flat Panel (Black) - Stright Lift Soft Pleated Main - Straight Lift Initially I'd just like to discuss this job and get some pricing/timelines so I can put it in front of the client. If you are interested please drop me a message.
  7. That worked! Thanks so much. Cloners are really daunting to me, there's so many options.
  8. I'm sure there's a good workflow for doing this, but I am not the best at these sorts of things. How would one go about making a wall feature like this in c4d?
  9. I'm noticing that the freehand spline object does not seem to want to be drawn on a working plan. Rather, it aligns itself to the XYZ planes depending upon where you draw it. Is there a way to draw splines on a working plane?
  10. I'm working on an assembly animation that explains how to put together a piece of curtain track. This is the type of thing that involves pulleys and rope to open a drape like in a theater. I am looking for someone who can do the following: Can animate a piece of rope through its path as it winds it's way along the track, ultimately tying in knot around the end. Can animate two big curtains being attached at the top to some hardware via hooks. Can animate the entire system lifting up and lifting the curtain up from a heap on the floor to hanging. Can animate the drapes pulling apart as the mechanism works. There is some other animation but it is really basic so I expect if you can do the above you can do the rest. I'm hoping to get the file with all of its parts finalized this week, and storyboarded by the end of this week. So I'm looking for someone to start early next week, with a 1 week turnaround. I use c4d w/ redshift for rendering. This will be rendered at 1920x1080 at 30fps, but you do not have to render the frames for me, just set up the animations. Please email me if you are interested, I'd like to see some examples of similar work
  11. I can't render using redshift to the picture viewer. The render just shows up as black. Is this possible? If not, how do I render multiple takes without having to start every render manually?
  12. I regularly import files from CAD programs, where chairs and things are instances of a library object. While this is often a benefit, there are times when there is just one instance of the object, and I end up with both the instance, and the parent somewhere else on the file. Is there a quick way to replace the instance with it's parent, leaving the parent in the same place the instance was?
  13. This was the webinar in question. It does look like the raytracing is realtime (with a pretty great RTX card). Note however, at the end when he talks about getting stills out, the process looks very similar to how gpu rendering works in a renderer like redshift or corona: low quality at first and then better at the expense of time...
  14. The webinar I watched was highlighting real time raytracing with RTX cards. It looked pretty compelling as I watched, but after thinking about it, if one had a comparable set up and did the same work in C4D with Redshift or some other gpu renderer the results would probably be pretty close. I did kind of laugh at the end as the presenter showed their methodology at the end for getting stills...it was kind of a bizarro screen grab process. But I do find the technology pretty compelling. It has come so far so fast, I'm excited to see what happens in the near future.
  15. I'm just watching a webinar on unreal for archviz, and wondering if this is going to be the future of archviz? I do mostly stills of exteriors/interiors, not motion graphics. I love C4d because my drafting software (vectorworks) ports nicely over to it, and it renders beautifully. But it is really hard to argue with real time rendering and the rendering from the unreal engine looks pretty dang good. I'm wondering if other cafe members have thoughts/opinions on the subject? Obviously for motion graphics I think C4D is practically unbeatable, but how about for architectural/environmental stuff?
  16. I'm a novice at animating stuff, most of my work is in stills But I have this rendering project for parts assembling, where different parts move away and fade out. I'm using the display tag as my means of fading the parts out. Is there any way to preview these fade outs other than rendering the whole animation? I had hoped to render using OpenGL but it seems that it does not render transparent animations. So I am stuck with the standard renderer.
  17. Well yes, I got that far. But I had read it to mean that I could, say have a catalog with a bunch of images that I could access. I was able to add a catalog of a .c4d file, which is useful. But let's say I wanted to access a file that had nothing but wood images, how do I do that? When I add the base folder where they are located, nothing shows up in the browser.
  18. Can anyone tell me what a catalog is and what it is used for? I've never been able to get anything to show up in a catalog. I just end up dragging folders into my favorites.
  19. I've been using zync for a while now but have grown frustrated at its inability to play nice with windows. Windows doesn't like to download its plugin, run its plugin, swears it is a piece of malicious software. I'm looking for a plug in solution to render the occasional set of stills, no animation. There are times when I have a lot of work to do + rendering jobs and it was nice to out put my ten or so takes to a bigger machine and get back renders in about an hour. This was usually on their ~96 core machines. Can anyone recommend a service for this type of work? I see a few advertised on this site, but I don't really know the pros and cons of what I'm seeing...
  20. Wondering if anyone has used this plugin. I have a client who is married to 3ds max and wondering if we can use it for file exchange. http://www.3dtoall.com/products/maxtoc4d/
