  1. I don't know. I've know of a bunch of c4d artists that are switching to blender. Only the ones still working for studios don't consider as you need to use the tool the studio uses. But the ones delivering final renders here in Brazil at least, a lot switched or are considering. It all depends on the market as well. C4d is VERY expensive here due to currency exchange factors. When I was in the UK I thought the price of subscription to be cheap.
  2. I don't. That's why I don't use cinema 4d anymore. But it would be nice to have as you can still make money while offering that solution.
  3. And no indie version unfortunately. C4D still out of reach for me. Release looks solid this time.
  4. That is what I thought when MAXON announced the "3D for the World!" but actually it's more like "3D rental for the 1st World", as it's still very expensive for other countries not on USD/EUR/GBP. As for Blender, it is a very powerful software. It still lacks the simplicity and refininment of C4D, but it's superior in direct modelling and sculpting and GPU render (for example).
  5. They definitely need. My friend used to teach Cinema 4D and After Effects online and he switched to Blender and have now like a huge amount of students taking his classes, helping spread the word, etc. Specially here with the taxes that we face, low currency conversion and late payment by clients, free or cheaper software is a must. This Friday Max/Maya Indie will also be available. Full software for $250/year. I just let my Modo maintanence lapse and will probably follow with a combo of Blender and Max. Do I prefer Cinema? Yes ... I always had a love for Cinema, but it's just too expensive.
  6. Although I don't use Cinema (too expensive around here), I always watch the NAB, IBC and SIGGRAPH presentations as I always learn something.
  7. Sorry to pop in after a while, but in case you guys have missed this. Realtime motion graphics in Blender. I thought it was pretty cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU02rmCduw0
  8. That's great and the selling point of C4D. I don't get the node fixation. Reason why I like Modo and C4D is that it's more artist friendly. But it's a cool project, reminds me of Softimage ICE. But with Blender growing a lot around here and Autodesk confirming the Indie license at $250 for next month, C4D will have a hard battle to fight for users around here.
  9. The thing srek, when 3D for the World was announced I posted on the thread here that I was excited to get back into cinema finally. I can definitely pay £59/month. But then I realised that it was up front. I can’t justify £720 in one go. I could save for a year and then pay, but why wait? £250 is a lot easier to justify and it is available here in the UK. Now I might not trust Autodesk to keep this offer around, but honestly? I don’t know if I trust MAXON that much as well ... which is why I have a good friend willing to sell me his R20 (he moved to Blender) and I’m unsure of buying giving the company is still unable to say what will happen with perpetual. Pinin: hey man, not sure if your comment was for me, but I’ve found from the video that BiFrost is quite simple to use, similar to XParticles.
  10. Oh yes ... that's the same. A $250/year software with BiFrost versus a $1k/year software + a bridge to a $300/year software, which in nature is already more complicated than the other two software. It's the same thing. 🙂
  11. Good points Pangel. Add to the fact that MAXON wasn't able yet to properly implement their new license scheme (we have no rules for license transfers yet). They may want to abolish (but can't in the EU). Maybe they are waiting for Brexit to be done so the UK isn't part of the EU and UK customers can't complain. 😛 Joking aside, there's a lot of things still rough on the edges for the new "3D for the World" in terms of licenses, new versions, cheap monthly rental that you need to pay up-front, no Redshift integration, etc, that another big change at the same time do raises concern on how well the company will handle.
  12. We can agree on that! 🙂 I just wish RedShift was part of Cinema, not an extra payment.
  13. He doesn't have to know, he's a customer. What he needs is a better tool and he can demand that without needing to be a specialist in engineering or software development.
  14. This merger could be great, but it would be interesting if MAXON had already ironed out the Cinema 4D R21 new license concerns before this new merger. We still don't have a procedure to buy second hand R21 licenses and there's a lot of voiced concerns about the whole cheap rental but pay up-front.
  15. This is really good news as I find FumeFX really really good. Well, their history on high-end feature films speaks by itself.
  16. Well, that is unexpected. I wonder what will come out of this.
  17. Thans for the info DMcGavran... hopefully I`ll be able to join MAXON with an second hand license in the future. 🙂
  18. That would be fine indeed. Used licenses is a good way to enter the ecosystems. Got into Modo like this, wouldn`t mind getting into Cinema the same way.
  19. Yeah, just got it. Saw it on Modo forums. Really enjoying their UI, specially as I feel like DaVinci is starting to get really cluttered. It`ll be interesting to learn some HUD design using it.
  20. Looks really nice! Might get in the future to use with Blender and Max. 🙂
  21. Alright ... do this in C4D with standard tools then.
  22. Gotcha! But if you are looking to buy, it's a new license or a used license. If it's used, the same would apply no?
  23. My understanding from what I've seen posted several times on the Modo forums is that this is illegal, to prevent a sale of a perpetual license. So if you are in Europe, you should have legal grounds to appeal on that. I wish I was a lawyer to help you more on this.
  24. 60 pages ... that's a new record around here, no? In any case, I hope MAXON revisits and truly offers a monthly payment of $59 for Cinema 4D. I was ready to leave Modo/Blender as I always loved Cinema, but it's still mostly a hobby for me and between paying nothing for Blender and 50/month on Modo to a big $700+ for Cinema, for now, I can stay where I am. I do think I might join the London tour. For $95, I get to learn more about C4D with Chris Schmidt and also have a 3-month license of Cinema + Redshift. Not so bad. Come on MAXON! Help us help you! ;)
