A couple of other YouTube channels to keep in your subscription list:

C4D Cafe - I believe this YouTube channel contains some of Hrvoje's tutorials from his Vertex Pusher days.  Not sure if they are redundant to the tutorials also posted at the Cafe site itself, but regardless of where find them, these are the go-to source for the beginner modeler.  Just outstanding.

PolygonPen - Takes on some really interesting modeling and retopology challenges with his/her tutorials that involve curved surfaces and asymmetry.  Again, not for the beginner modeler but you will get there some day.

John Dickinson - A really good set of short tutorials on tackling common modeling problems

Noseman - Yes...Anthanasios Pozantzis has his own YouTube channel.  So no Cineversity subscription required to benefit from his clear, concise explanations on various topics including MoGraph (which does provide some interesting possibilities with modeling).  One of my favorite instructors.

Digital Meat - A Cafe Regular so probably a bit redundant but he touches on everything!

EyeDesign - EJ is a regular on the MAXON Podcasts and another set of YouTube tutorials that touch on everything!!!

Thanks for the mention, much appreciated 😉

  2. Thought I'd post this here as it relates to R23. I'm doing a stream tonight (8:00pm UK time), so it would be great to get your thoughts in the chat regarding R23 and other topics we'll be covering 🙂

EDIT: Cortana went off without being asked at the 21:30 mark and decided to adjust my mic levels! (sigh), so you'll have to crank the volume up. Cortana has now been shot and buried.

  3. Just wanted to point this out here as I'm sure people from MAXON are watching.

I've noticed a couple of issues regarding the current live streams on 3Dmotionshow.com

On the September 8th page the "MAXON News, Notes and Announcements" with David McGavran presentation links to a completely unrelated video, one that doesn't even feature David (see image below) It is also not present on the YouTube channel or the IBC 2020 YouTube playlist.

There is also a missing talk from September 9th.

Just wanted to make the relevant people aware.

  4. At the risk of sounding like I'm whinging in my first post, let me first say that the nodes look very interesting, and the UV updates are welcome.

On to my question, Screen space reflections in the viewport in the past (R21), would only work if you had 0% roughness on your reflective material.

In R23 they seem to have improved this so when you have a roughness value higher than 0%, the SSR is still visible.

my issue (as far as I can tell) is that these SSR reflections do not blur as the roughness value is increased.

Can anyone else confirm that this is the case for them, and I'm not just having a GPU driver issue.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the opportunity guys really! I am glad to be part of the team and look forward to see what the future will bring us.I have a lot to offer here and will put in the time and effort to bring the ideas to life! Thanks for having me here.

Hey Merk! I can't seem to like your post, just know that I do 😄 😉👌

Yup got same result building it from scratch.  Its certainly looking at the plane effector not working with the cloner object.

    Il report this right away.

Thank you. Something else to consider, the plane effector might not be the issue, the issue might be the Mograph cache is not being seen, or is not passing information onto the Point Object Field Layer, just a thought.

Ahh  see, Il follow that video and see whats going on if I can.  I may be a bug like you say in which case I can report it once iv had a look.

Much appreciated buddy, I had a good look and couldn't see what the issue was, so I thought, C4DCafe to the rescue! lololol

I get it playing in r21 but the plane effector is not working which I think is down the difference between r20 and r21 setup.  In r21 for the plane falloff there is an additional component as a child of the delay, a effect  strength, this may be the cause of that part not working, but the simulation plays fine here.

Hi Dan, thanks for the response.

Sorry, I should have been a bit clearer in my original statement. In R21, the simulation of the bouncing spheres plays fine, just as it does in R20, the problem appears to be the plane effector not using Cloner.1's point information being stored in the mograph cache.

If it helps, the individual that contacted me has sent a link to the video he was trying to mimic. I'll post it here in the hope it offers some further insight.

  9. I was recently contacted by someone with a rather interesting question regarding the file I've attached to this post. It seems that if you open this file in R20 and hit play, everything behaves as it should do, but, if you open it up with R21 and hit play, nothing happens. I've even reconstructed this setup from scratch to make sure it's not a problem with the file, and i'm getting the same results. Is this a bug with R21 or am I missing something?

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Was a good stream! 👍

Thanks buddy, I just hope that I didn't ramble too much, it was really late and I was shooting from the hip. I also really hope that it didn't upset anyone at MAXON, that wasn't the intention, and I know those guys work really hard. The software is still as solid as it ever was, I just think the new sub model is a bit of a turn off for some users.

if i'm still awake in half an hour i'm gonna swing by... 😉

Yeah, it's pretty late for anyone in Europe, I have to think about the USA because they make up the majority of my audience. so I'm trying to balance a time that'll be ok for both.

When I got the trial of R21 lately it basically said by starting the trial I was automatically giving my consent to let MAXON collect info on me and my computer and let them do whatever they please with it.  I won't be able to join at that time so I'm mentioning it here.  I liked C4D because it didn't have this that other big companies had.  Now it's horrible.

The new icons are un needed.  ProRender is still SlowRender.  The denoise has no settings.  It's just on or off.  Plus I could denoise outside of C4D so it's not a big deal.  This might be the first release that is actually worst than the previous release so much so people are asking if they can pay the price for R21 and get R20.

    Thanks for the input 🙂

Next time announce this first to me, few days . before and we can announce it on front page properly! 😉 I am curios would people like podcasts...so few of us could join and talk for the audience about Cinema 4D of course and 3D in general!

I think podcasts would be a great idea!

Hey Igor, wow, that's really kind of you. To be honest, that didn't even cross my mind so I really appreciate it. I added it to my blog earlier today so hopefully some members have already clocked it.
