  1. Thank you! That looks really handy 🙂 I would also be very interested to see that list !
  2. I use Group Pro in my projects, but I can't seem to find any info about the Hierarchy Tools addon you mentioned? I would like to look into it because I don't find Group Pro ideal (or did you mean the Hierarchy to Collections addon?)
  3. I can confirm that missing light linking and limits within the AOV capabilites are what makes it hard for studios to use Cycles in production at the moment - there is no doubt the render engine itself is very solid and comparable to outputs of other render engines, but the pipeline/ production workflow circumstances of Cycles are not quite there yet. But I hear they are working on it.
  4. I used to solve this via a chain of constraints, where at the lock point I would create a "convert to null" to temporarily transition-lock the feet/ hands onto, but some longer scenes took about 60 of these null constraints which ended up being quite confusing. By now I have switched to Blender, where a space switch can quite easily be integrated into a rig/ comes as a default with some rig templates
  5. Ah thanks I never tried geometry nodes in Blender at all until now, I think I will have to give this a shot. Is it possible to save a node setup as a preset (like the capsules in C4D) to have quick access to it without setting it up from scratch every time?
  6. I am currently using the dupliverts method, where you "clamp" an object and its children to a face that has instancing set to faces and then clone the plane It is also pretty annoying that you cannot clone lights with an array
  7. same goes for cloning a group of objects - it is possible but so tedious to set up. A decent cloner that includes children would make Blender so much better (and light linking of course)
  8. Because it states that an asset can only be modified in it's original blend file, which means you can not use this system to make global changes to materials in your scene
  9. When I look at the Blender asset manager development page, I get the feeling that it's more of what the asset manager in C4D is and less of a material manager? Because I absolutely agree that material management in Blender is quite horrific And would love to see a proper material manager implemented, but I get the feeling it's not quite what we hope for in that term
  10. This issue is the exact reason I decided to transition to Blender a few weeks back, the terribly slow scenes with multiple characters were taking so much time because I always had to render a playblast to get an idea of the movement in realtime. (Maybe it was even my post that you were referring to earlier) I was pretty shocked to see that Blender was able to handle multiple characters quite effortlessly after I had so much pain animating my last project in C4D. It was a bit hard for me accept because I was just so used to working in Cinema, but if you want to do serious work in the character animation area/ short films C4D is just not a really a choice unfortunately.
  11. This has been an offer for everyone buying Resolve 17 since it's release and it is still active at least until Version 18 comes out, I bought my license bundled with the Speed Editor a couple weeks back and just sold my Speed Editor on ebay for 200 $, so in effect I just paid 100$ for the Resolve license. Also with resolve you get all the future updates for free so far, as with ZBrush. In my opinion Resolve is leagues better than Premiere/AfterEffects. And yes this is correct
  12. I also started dabbling in Blender since a few days - the reason was that I did a few shots with 3 characters in one scene in Cinema and the scrub speed was so painfully slow that I couldn't take it anymore. I had tried to get into Blender a few years back and found it quite repelling, but I must say that by now it has become quite an impressive piece of software. What attracted me mostly where the open source short film projects that grant you access to all project files. Also the fact alone that there are actually films being made with Blender, whereas in C4D this basically never happens (as is to be expected with a primarily MoGraph/ Design software). The viewport performance is definitely something else lol I gave my Blender two cents the exact second after you posted this
  13. I would try around with the drag property, this one basically makes the hair act like its underwater, which should come close to a space look
  14. At first I was regretting buying the Terraform plugin when it was still standalone and not owned by Insydium, because I would now have gotten it anway with my X-Particles license. But apparently I am actually really lucky because the new terraform is only available when subscribed to Fuse. And not being able to use your old landscape scene because your maintenance expired would really suck. So I'm really happy with my perpetual Terraform now 🙂
  15. As every year I hope for an independent animation layer system that does not work via motion tags
  16. It's basically just a very simple filter that removes any jitter (but also makes you lose detail the more you crank it up). I just use it because I need really clean motion capture as I animate for the big screen where every jitter is very visible. Maybe you don't even need to use any of this and just take the raw recording.
  17. I heard that 2.0 is set to release around August, they are already beta testing it since some time. I recommend that you also use a cleanup tool beyond Rokoko Studio (like Motionbuilder, but that is a pricey one). I heard there is a Houdini/SideFX software (not sure if a plugin or standalone) that is quite cheap and also has good smoothing algorithms. There are probably more alternatives too. It's also very helpful to use the Mixamo control rig in C4D to correct any MoCap issues like intersections
  18. Hi, I have been using a Rokoko Suit and the gloves recently, and if you know a bit about how to clean up MoCap data (e.g. with MotionBuilder filters) it is absolutely amazing what you can achieve with the suit. The retargeting in C4D is currently a bit tedious - at least if you want to work with the nonlinear MotionSystem - , but apparently they are releasing Rokoko Studio 2.0 soon and I heard that you will be able to retarget inside of Rokoko Studio then, which will be a great help. Don't expect every motion to come out 100 percent perfect from the recording, but with a bit of cleanup (I am talking 5 to 10 minutes) I didn't have a single move that I couldn't do nicely with the suit. You really want to apply a bit of smoothing to the curves (butterworth and smoothing filters) as by default the data can be a bit jiggly. But with the amount of exposure Rokoko is getting recently and them expanding their offices this year, I expect that more filter options will be developed in Rokoko Studio itself, so it is easier for people who don't know MoCap so well to use the suit. I was a bit sceptical at first because of the intense marketing and the quality of the MoCap in their demo reel (I don't know who decided to put these jaggy animations in there), but I can honestly tell you that the suit is very nice to work with if you do character animation.
  19. Could that be an issue related to motion blur? I had a similar problem once as the renderer compares frame 1 to frame 2 to figure out the motion blur
  20. Hi, I am currently animating a mocap scene with the help of the Mixamo control rig. To avoid footsliding I would like to have the option to lock the foot and hand IK controls to the ground (the world space) via keyframeble user data. I guess the best option to do that without fiddling with constraints would be via Expresso, but I am not making much progress there. Does anyone have an idea how to approach this?
  21. Hi, unfortunately it is currently not possible (due to a missing API link) to use Ornatrix hair with C4D native forces like wind. So I would like to convert Ornatrix hair splines into C4D hair splines to circumvent that issue. So far I could not find any way to do it. I dimly remember that @Rectro mentioned something like this at some point? Sorry if I am mistaken Regards!
  22. I bought a license a few months back, does that mean it will stay valid after the transfer to Insydium?
  23. I still don't get a prompt to update in my quick launch panel or anywhere else - was anyone able to update through the software or did you all have to do a complete reinstall with the new installer?
