Night Version: Check! @EAlexander some Chromatic Aberration Porn for you ;D

They remind me of this well known european Boardgame (called "Mensch ärgere dich nicht" in Germany). The playfigures there look very similiar. Triggers PTSD since I despise this game with a passion. Other than that great job though 😄

Aw damn, sorry I missed that... It's a French Horn I think? @Cerbera should know ;D because it's his model.

I've been busy learning and switching to Blender over the holidays. This is my first scene: Dowgate Fire Station in London! This is 100% Blender, no Substance Designer involved, all prodecural texturing. Textures mostly from Substance Source and grungemaps from the awesome Blemish Pro by thepixellab.net for detailing and breaking up the tiling. HDRI by Poly Haven. Reference was mostly a photo by Jo Underhill which you can find here: https://structuraleye.co.uk/dowgate-fire-station -
aaand it's done! At first glance you probably won't see much of a difference but I changed many small details and materials between now and the last time I posted. Also added some more details 😉 As with the other post, small "making-of" included! Brutalism_Animation3_FINAL.mp4

Thanks! 🙂 I'm not 100% happy yet but I think that's just details... I will post an update as soon as I'm ready 😛

So uh... I spent the holidays on gaming and... learning Blender. Funnily enough this is the biggest project I have ever done outside of commercial work. Needless to say that I really enjoy Blender. I think with that scene I got the basics pretty much down. Next step? Probably geometry nodes. BUT! The scene is not 100% done yet, but wanted to share anyway 🙂 This is a recreation (with some artistic freedom) of the Dowgate Fire Station in London. Everything based on this photo. That doesn't look like Tobacco 🤔

Crunchy!

I mean, AE JUST reintroduced multiframe rendering after like what, 10 years since they removed it? I don't think AE is good at benchmarking anything but single core performance 😄

Quick rant / Looking for advices regarding C4D updates

Hey man, I didn't mean this in an offensive or "it's your fault" way. I just personally have not had any of these issues that people often complain about, nor do I know anybody that had these issues. That doesn't mean that these problems don't exist. -

I will never understand this "updates break a lot of things" notion. I've been using Windows my entire life. Both personal use and commercial use. I can count on one hand how many times updates broke something and it was always minor things, never impacted my productivty. That said, Microsoft needs to work on their QA for their updates. Ever since they got rid of their classic QA Team and replaced them with some AI based testing garbage the quality of their updates has gone downhill. -

Yeah no. Studio Drivers should always work and I personally never had any issues with them. Occasionally there are games that don't run at all without the latest driver update but in that case I just wait. Lagging behind in drivers for years is not an option for many people, especially for those that use their machine for more than work. And guess what, it's not always feasable to have a dedicated 3D PC and a gaming PC on top of that. Why buy a system with one or more GPUs just to let it rot when not working on it and buy another machine just for gaming. Drivers have always been a pain in the butt and it always will be. -
Coronas Volumetrics are great. In my experience they just take aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to sample. I've had scenes where my rendertimes went up by over 1000% over the same scene without volumetrics, even with single bounce. Compared to RS that is very, very slow. Then again, Redshift currently only supports single bounce volumetrics so...

Just found this: Light Tracer Render Engine What's so special about it you might ask? It also runs in your browser, on your GPU. Something I just quickly clicked together to check it out: If you ask me that is damn impressive for a browser based render engine, and it seems to be fast too!

Oh trust me, I know! I don't work in VFX but it's the same story in my field. You polish something to perfection and then the client wants something completely different... a story probably as old as the craft.

It's a great Spot overall, but there's some really shoddy VFX work in there... The tracking on the bikers hands from 0:16 onwards especially. And there's more like that in it. The cinematography is great though!

Meh, guess I'll have to take another look... and maybe try more than liquid sims 🙈

Not only the pricetag, but also usually almost zero repairability / upgradeability, especially in their laptops. Not saying other manufacturers are much better but... some are. And cheaper. Especially if you follow Louis Rossmann a little you'll see that there have been some design issues in the systems for many years now and I've heard from tons of overheating issues with some of their devices. Not in usual workflow but the moment you start rendering something the cooling systems just get overwhelmed.

I think it's mostly about hobbyists. I personally have a Houdini Indie license because Apprentice does not have the export functionality I want.

If you think Scene Nodes will replace Houdini then I have bad news for you.
