  1. The point of these threads is open discussion. It's one thing being angry about not getting what you want, it's another thing being a dick about it. The latter is not something that is appreciated in this forum.
  2. No, ProRender has been deprecated. The results were just not good and I'm glad MAXON abandoned it as early as they did. That said, you can still download the newest ProRender versions from AMDs Website if you want. For free.
  3. I think he meant that Arnold is "free" with Maya and Max, but C4D still has Standard / Physical but no Redshift.
  4. I see where you're coming from and I understand what you mean. Thing is, nowadays caring about the environment is the hip thing to do for companies. One might even use the term greenwashing. That said, I think every bit of environmental protection that is actually being done is a good thing in my book. I can very clearly distinguish between a company and their product, I can do the same for an artist and his art. So honestly said, I don't give a damn what MAXON associate themselves with unless it's way out of taste. I think you know what I mean with that. That said, I do understand if you can't or don't want to distinguish between the two. One more thing on NFTs: What bothers me about this entire thing is that we're in a field that uses TONS of energy. I mean, we're literally throwing 100% usage CPUs and GPUs at pixels until there's a pretty image at the end. To me that is not far from what NFTs are doing. They are the result of a problem in the digital space and I can't wait to see how this stuff develops. That said, I think it's important to invest in a system that isn't as wasteful as it is right now.
  5. I don't know why you think NFT's are super bad for the environment. They are definitely not free, but they are also not Bitcoin. The people behind NFT are also ACTIVELY working towards an update to the Ethereum code (on which NFTs are based on iirc) so that it costs basically no electricity to process. NFTs being insanely bad for the environment is a stupid lie that has been spouted around for weeks now.
  6. Well I've had other experiences, but I should have just done an emote overload or added /s at the end or something I guess.
  7. Yeah there is. Which is why I was trying to lighten the mood a little 😄
  8. Calm down man, I was making a joke. I thought that emote made that obvious enough.
  9. Money. They have a plan, and they are sticking with it. Wether we like it or not is a different story.
  10. Oh MAXON, try harder. Stop sending your paid actors. 🥴
  11. Yeah I don't understand this decision either. All it does is confuse people.
  12. It would be and always has been. This should have happened years ago and to this day I do not understand what their problem is with Indie licensing.
  13. I didn't want to imply that you are the one spreading the toxicity here. If i came across like this, sorry. Unintended 😉 Subscriptions rub me the wrong way as well but you know... it is what it is. The world is moving towards this. I just spent 230€ on one year of Houdini. The alternative would have been pirating it since I can't spent thousands on a perpetual. So in that sense subscriptions are amazing for people that don't earn their cash with it, because if Houdini Indie wasn't available I simply wouldn't have been able to afford it.
  14. Yeah I mean the world is a dark enough place as is, so I can only support this. Raging about everything that is NOT there instead of appreciating stuff that IS there (and I think there's some really cool stuff in this release) is just not good for the head.
  15. No, not at all. You can be critical all you want here. What matters is the tone. And unfortunately discussions like these often devolve into circlejerking how sh** C4D is, how lazy MAXON Devs are, how much better Blender is, blah. Yes, Blender has a faster pace of development. Yes, Blender is free. And it's still not used widely in production for some reason. I personally don't know why but there has to be SOME reason people still use Maya, 3DS Max, C4D, etc. What people often tend to forget is how amazingly stable and easy to use C4D is. Making tools that are easy to use like this is extremely difficult. I think that is something that people often forget. Sure they could probably implement some kind of fluid simulation in a couple of months but actually making that easy to use is a WHOLE different story. I dare everybody to take a look at Houdini or Blender how complex it is to make and control good fluid simulations in those, especially if it has to be production quality. C4D might be lagging behind when it comes to features but every other software lags miles behind C4D when it comes to usability and stability.
  16. I do. I have never needed any C4D shaders so it doesn't bother me at all.
  17. Guys this is a half-year update... The good stuff is coming with the R upadate, not the S update. At least that's how it was last time lol.
  18. I don't know if I made that impression, but I wasn't into Houdini either until I got peer pressured to try it from multiple angles 😄
  19. It's something I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 39kj2PmOtw.mp4
  20. I can only ever watch around 10min of Beeple before I need to watch something else. So much energy in that dude.
  21. Eugh, that sucks. But I can't say that $2,99 is a lot. I certainly wouldn't have minded if I had to pay that during my time at the university.
  22. And he also integrates some kind of Blockchain technology.
  23. I did not pay a single cent for my C4D Student version when I had it a couple of years ago.
  24. Since I use the new C4D node system in Redshift, I could not use this node but I just rebuilt it in the new system 😉 So the renders above did indeed have the correct colors on the textures and constant colors. If anyone can tell me where I can find that preset in my files I can upload it to the system. And what you are describing here is exactly what I did. As much as I could gather from all the information on the internet: if you use OCIO in Redshift this way you get basically the same level of ACES support that Octane and Arnold have. You can even export an ACES *.exr 16bit file via beauty AOV (as described in the video in the first post).
