  1. I just checked the description for the 'Scene updater' tool on Maxon labs: https://labs.maxon.net/?p=3258 - download link at the bottom of hat page if you want it. "With Cinema 4D R20 the ability to load scenes, that got saved with Cinema 4D versions older than R12, has been removed. The plugin described herein is supposed to help users locate such scenes and, when running in a version which still has the ability to load such scenes (e.g. R19), it can convert these to a newer file format, which can then be loaded in R20 again."
  2. I have a backup of my personalised installers from those 18 / 19 / 20 versions, but out of curiosity tried to log into ePortfolio to check I wasn't mssing anything. Just like Dave, I couldn't get access - email / password not recognised. Email not recognised for password reset. I'm in the UK and did previously have access. I have a robust password management system and haven't changed that email or password. I've sent a support request and will see what happens.
  3. I suspect the answer is 'lots of different software' - across 2D, 3D, compositing and the rest : ). There is so much involved in a piece like this no one software could do it all.
  4. Just like a typical Autumn C4D release, hey? : ) Looks pretty impressive to me...

    Learning path

What sort of work are you planning on doing? Will you be using a third party renderer - eg: Redshift, Octane, Corona - or C4D physical?
  6. Hi Hrvoje, I'm on R21 and haven't tried R25 - but can you answer a related question on Capsules? Back when scene nodes were introduced it was clearly stated that they were not compatible with the classic object manager - which is perfectly understandable. Capsules obviously work around that in some way. I would therefore assume that Capsules - even though they are scene node based - don't show these speed increases, as they are constrained by their integration into the classic object manager. Can you confirm that - or offer any insight on the matter?
  7. Nice to see something a little more stylised and creative compared to the usual 'flooded with light' approach.
  8. There was no speculation at all. Yes, I was refering to Nemetschek, Inc.
  9. No surprise that Dave's on the Nemetschek board then.
  10. Yes - too long ago... That Greyscale Gorilla chat on R25 was interesting viewing. Lukewarm indeed.
  11. I'm certainly looking forward to checking out v19 : ) I'm very slowly chipping away at learning (some!) Houdini. I started using it because I wanted the terrain features it offered - good erosion simulation etc. It's functionality in fluids / oceans and cloth are also areas I hope to leverage in due course! I don't think I'll ever fully move to it - I'm too late in my career for that - but it's certainly an awesome tool in the box! As Kent suggests: too much to do, too much to learn, and too little time to do it : )
  12. Or, as Dave put it in his masterful presentation: 'Capsules' : )
  13. Have you tried 3Delight? https://www.3delight.com/ Free for up to 12 cores, easy to use and has a cloud rendering service too.

    R25 Expectations

My honest speculation is that the "S" release is now the primary release. The traditional "R" release being the 'top up'. I think they will continue to let standard and physical renders languish - as they are doing - to 'encourage' more people to a C4D+Redshift option. I think they'll give themselves a couple of years to fully integrate Rs and fix all the issues: linear workflow, OCIO / ACES colour management, nodal materials, render output and management etc. Then Rs will be the internal renderer and standard and physical will be dumped. Future subscription cost to be determined of course : )
  15. I hope Maxon makes a significant donation to the Blender Development Fund. It would only be right considering how they will be profiting from the work of the Blender community.
  16. Ok, let's have a fun quiz! Question: Are there any other C4D features that could prefix this statement? LOL!
  17. Same here. R21 perpetual currently meets my needs and I've not seen anything since then that offers me enough value to upgrade.
  18. Toolfarm.com prices - which are generally very good: For UK: R23 to R25 Perpetual upgrade: £799+VAT ( £958.80 inclusive of UK VAT) Earlier versions to R25 Perpetual upgrade: £1,699+VAT ( £2,038.90 inclusive of UK VAT) = 62% of the cost of a new licence. I've no doubt that Dave McG will pop in sometime in 2022 to tell us that perpetuals are no longer popular.
  19. Same here : ) In fact if you can't 'scroll through the buttons' - and I've no idea if you can, I've no interest in downloading R25 - that looks slower to me. Click the button, look at the object, find the next button... repeat.
  20. Anyway - on a positive note: It looks like Igor made the right decision with 'Core4D' : )
  21. When Scene nodes were introduced last year the big feature was speed and ability to handle large numbers of objects. Remember that demo video with millions of swarming objects? Remember also that 'Scene nodes are incompatible with the object manager' etc? It seems to me that 'Capsules' are just a temporary mash up to stick the two things together. What's the likely result? The speed and capacity of the old Object Manager - not Neutron. Overall value: zero.
  22. I'm sure you're right. They've been moving in this direction for quite a while. The problem: If you need scene nodes, and are happy working with them, then you'll be happy with Houdini. So why wait for 'Houdini Light' (C4D), when you can get 'Houdini Max'? If you're a solo freelancer it's cheaper (Indie), and if you're a bigger studio $5K is perfectly affordable. If they continue on the current trajectory C4D is going to get crushed between Blender on one side and Houdini on the other.
  23. The most entertaining part of the presentation was Paul Babb doing the low-rent version of the Jensen 'kitchen' scene. I felt sorry for the guy - knowing what was coming. Looked like he couldn't get off stage quick enough.
  24. As EJ says: "I think this is going to be one of the most talked about releases in a very long time..." LOL!
