  1. Hi there, Although I’m really a hobbyist, I really enjoy working in C4D, AE and Illustrator, and would like to improve my skills. You never know, one day I could have a fab reel. I’m lucky enough to have free access, through my library, to LinkedIn Learning (previously Lynda.com). The courses are good but I’m yearning for more structure and the company of others, if only online. In consequence I’m considering taking an online course at School of Motion. If you have any experience of this organization or have any pointers for me I’d love to know. Thanks. https://www.schoolofmotion.com/
  2. Thanks for the responses. Since reading them I’ve done a bit more research and have come up with a solution which should enable me to animate quite heavy scenes at a good frame rate. It’s small Asus gaming laptop. Screen size doesn’t matter very much as I’m working from a monitor. https://tinyurl.com/3adarkc2
  3. Hi, Versions of this question have been posted before, but this is specific. I recently picked up C4D again after a long absence and found that my laptop is completely inadequate for my needs - If you would like a bit more detail as to why, please see my previous post below. I am not in a position to have a desktop, so I'm going flog this laptop and purchase a more powerful one. And my question is, of course, will the machine linked to here do the trick? Thanks for your forbearance
  4. I've learned that if you hold down Shift+CTRL while launching the app, it opens in Minimal Viewport Settings mode. This way I'm getting 42fps. Obviously very limiting in many respects but in a pinch...
  5. Thanks for the reality check. Perhaps I'll have to shell out some cash.
  6. Hi, I am experiencing slow viewport performance on my laptop, and it is worse on a 4K monitor. Navigating around the object is fine by playback is slow. On the external monitor with lights etc. switched on, this three second animation is taking 19.5 seconds to play out. With everything switched off it's still taking 4.8 seconds. The numbers on the laptop screen are 14.2 and 4.3 respectively. The is room for 8GB more RAM in a DDR4 SO-DIMM socket already on the board. I'm wondering if some more RAM would speed things up. I don't think the GPU has the capacity for OpenGL. The Scene File is attached if you would like to take a look. Specs are as follows: C4D - S24 OS - Windows 10 Lenovo Yoga 730-15IKB CPU - Intel i7-8550U @ 180GHz 2.00GH GPU - Integrated Graphics • Nvidia N17p-G0 RAM - 8GB 2400MHz DDR4 Soldered to board Advice much appreciated. 7. All good advice, thank you. I'm sure I made some errors in settings so I decided to go back a few steps and give it another go.
  8. Thanks for getting back to me. I'm following a tutorial on the Maxon site and was doing fine until it came to lighting. The outcome is supposed to look something like the picture below- sharp. Strange thing is, in the viewport it's quite sharp but the rendered frame is flat and fuzzy. I know it must be something in my settings but I haven't been able to work it out no matter how long I try. 1. Grab from website 2. The Render 3. Viewport view As you can see, in the viewport image the objects are much clearer than the rendered view. Ideally I'd like to be able to recreate the Maxon model.
  9. Hi, I'm having trouble working out why my render is so soft. Also the image is a screen cap as I don't know how to export an image properly. Any pointers would be grand. Please ignore the lighting, I'll get to that. Fish Bowl Submarine.c4d
  10. Good to know where the Project settings can be found. Turned it Gray-Blue and then worked out that I just didn't have enough segments. Glad that's over with, was driving me nuts! Thanks for helping out an absolute beginner.
  11. Looks good, I think. To export I go File> Export and am presented with a bunch of formats. Please direct. Thanks
  12. Thanks Cerbera, I've updated my profile. A good few years back I took a class in C4D and that's where the R16 comes from. I'm very much hoping it's not a hardware issue. CPU Intel i7-8550U @ 180GHz 2.00GHz GPU Integrated Graphics • nvidia N17p-G0
  13. Hi, I am just starting out and following a basic Maxon tutorial. This may seem like a small thing but its irritating me. Any objects i place in the viewport show like the light grey image but i want to display the objects just like in the tutorial - the dark grey image. I have tried changing the different display modes under the Display tab but the light grey image is the best i get. Many thanks
