  1. Based my my short story and my first new animation in a couple years it seems. The short story is illustrated but the animation isn't really based on them. Trying new stuff, black and white, adding some 2D animation with the 3D. I have no idea how long this will take. the open shot through the trees was 49 hours to render! This is in the gothic horror vein most of my other projects are. A village near a cliff by the sea loses some of its residents over 200 years to a mysterious call to go towards the sea.
  2. Me too! I never quite "got it" like I did C4D but it was amazing to me at the time!
  3. I still use the Cactus Dan rigging tools, they have been a life saver at times.
  4. Most of the magazines I work for cannot afford Adobe for the office anymore and to be honest, many of them were cheap before the pricing structures changed and one has been using a 15 year old version of Quark Xpress! (It's a nightmare.) They still make some money and that is mostly because they are highly specialized. One is distributed at classical concerts. opera and ballets so it's a captive audience waiting for a show to start another is a gay magazine telling of all the stuff going on in that community in my province and it's left out everywhere for tourists. So magazine still are useful, but I think for niche markets. The book feature in Publisher V2 might get some of my clients to switch to Affinity.
  5. I have been an Affinity user for years now, all three apps, and I really like them. The V1 apps were certainly missing some standard features but I didn't even notice most of the time. Publisher needed the most work, but even there I started using it as a beta and never needed inDesign again. It had the basics I used. I got the update today and it's pretty awesome but not in the "something big" marketing way that was promoted. All the apps are MUCH more useful and they filled in many if not most of the gaps I wanted filled. The price was a shock... in a good way. It was less than ½ what I expected to pay. Publisher on iPad is lifesaver for me as I need to travel light often so now all my design work is possible on the iPad. Sadly some of the desktop features are not on the iPad Publisher version and Apple has a terrible system to handle fonts, it's a nightmare that Serif will have to pressure them to change. Photo I have used for textures in C4D with no problems and found it easy to work on post for 3D images. Expectations for this update were BIZARRE. Serif was pretty clear they aren't doing video apps and that while they want to do a DAM they hadn't really started one, though that could have been the big surprise, but it wasn't. I don't expect or want clones of Adobe products and prefer to wait and see for some features like AI stuff until they are proven useful, so I'm very happy with this and there will be no more paid updates until V3 which might be years and a few hundred improvements away. Like every software out there, if it handles your needs and is within your budget - it's a great software. If not, there are other places to go.
  6. I did not want an entire year to go by so I made a very short simple science doc showing the distances between the sun and each planet. I have several space docs planned to add to my little series but this was the easiest to accomplish. All planets are done in C4D and I used some new techniques (for me) to do the atmospheres. The titles and graphics were done in Apple's Motion program.
  7. Well there is Cannes then there is Cannes... I wasn't in the THE Cannes festival, just a festival at Cannes. I don't have nearly the money to even think about entering a big festival like that! I would encourage people to enter festivals just for the chance people will see your work. There is so much good work out there but many people think they need to be Disney or Pixar for their work to have any value. It's all about telling stories, not competing with 3000 person productions!
  8. Thank you... since 2004 I have done about 35 short animated film I guess and then some TV and film work on top of that. Not of my personal work was started in 2020 when I started "Music Of Erich Zann" which took 5 years for me to figure out but gave me a structure to work from as one person filmmaker. I got the news I won the silver medal at the Tokyo Film awards so that was a nice boost to my day.
  9. Best animation award at the Tokyo Film Awards . This film has been doing very well since I finished it! Sadly I have had too much bad stuff happening to even start a new film in 2022. Maybe next year will be better and I can get back making animations again.
  10. Alas it will remain a nominated film endnote a winner. that is more than fine, it was a nice surprise in a year of some nice surprises for my animations and my last documentary getting into festivals.
  11. A nice surprise to be nominated and I've been looked at by quite few festivals this year already for various projects. I had better think of a new gothic horror idea soon... If you have not seen it already:

    Inkscape 1.2

I used Affinity Designer these days and wasn't interested much in inkscape until now.I love the interface so far and the tracing function worked really well and fast.
  13. I would stick like a sore thumb among fancy people LOL it was an online festival and I DID have a glass of wine handy - does that count?
  14. Doesn't really get you anywhere in my experience but it's always nice when it happens! I was up against non animated films as well which was interesting to me when I found out I won something.
  15. The Warped Dimension online festival was this weekend and I did a shot Q&A for my film. I also won best foreign film!
  16. Dramatic trailer, check! I can still show the trailer. There is a thread here about the film as I made it. I also got news that in one festival it went from selected to finalist meaning it can be in line to win prizes.
  17. My film "Whistle and i will come" was select3d for 2 festivals. I had to hide the youtube post for a couple weeks so it can premier at the Warped Dimension festival on the 14th of May but it will be back online the 15th. Th ask to everyone here for encouraging me while I was making it! At the Warped Dimension film festival May 14, 2022 (Online Festival) https://www.ahith.com/mrholeheadwarpeddimension I will be doing a Q&A over Zoom the 14th so sign up! New York Istanbul Film Festival The event is May 6th but I don't know much more than my film is one of the selections! http://www.newyorkistanbulshortfilmfestival.com/About/ The film is off Youtube temporarily so it can premiere officially at the Warped Dimension festival!
  18. I don’t want pay for adobe, can’t afford it anymore, but I have heard of those plugins and they great for anyone who wants to use AE. I am pretty happy with my workflow at the moment with Motion but AE is much more versatile and practical for many people, for sure.
  19. That is hard to say, the update with every version of Final Cut with the same features or sometimes slightly modified features, the new tracking features are a little more robust in Motion for example. It is certainly neglected by Apple as a stand alone program. I have a couple plugins, mainly a motion blur plugin that makes up for a feature I used in After Effects, which I haven't used in a while. Apple could easily add a couple features that would make it a better alternative to AE and I think they should. I like using it in many ways over AE. Syncing things to sound is much easier for example. I have a puppet warp plugin and had a Z depth plugin until recently - Boris hasn't updated it to work with the latest MAC OS so I had to find a manual way to do that. I handles my 3D composition work really well and since I paid 50$ for it a decade ago I think it is certainly cost effective. I have not tried compositing tools in Davinci or Blender yet. It's an odd duck of of a program to be sure! I can import 3D models from blender with an add on and my next project is a 2 minute space doc explainer film and I though I could import the rocket models and maybe get some interning compositing with other shots.
  20. I have been really negligent in learning more, but It seems like that is something that might be adding and the should! I have been getting use to using the mouse to move around the screen and it works but often just moving the gizmo is easier . I am hoping to start a small project next week in Blender and I hope that will finally get me moving with really learning it. I am curious about exporting a 3D model in it to Apple'sMotion app which might be a great way to cut some r3ender times.
  21. I would recommend the character rig as well. I have the Cactus Dan tools and often use those for simple characters.Old though they are I find it fast and the hand rigging tools speed things up for me. I know that isn't true for everyone.
  22. Finished... I think! wrote up a blogpost about the making of it. I thought this would be done before the end of last year but life really got in the way so finishing seems like a big deal to me.
