  1. Thanks Igor! Clouds are temporary. I am thinking of hand painting and animating them. Final lighting is a ways off I think, I hope something I try will work as I play around. After the house is done I think I will have a better idea how the lighting will need to be set up. I am using the physical sky atmosphere right now and I am not sure it is the best solution!
  2. Some updates. Worked on the house the character will live in and took away the wreck for now because I think it looks good as it and won't be in the story until later. It also slows the viewport down a little,
  3. I really like these changes! Like many are mentioning, some of them are very blender like, modern blender iterations, that is. They seem much easier to understand here which was one of c4d selling points. The nodes as tags would really be something I could get my head around.
  4. I like this a lot! It will make posting where you want more specific and easier I think. As always, Igor, you have been working hard to keep this place moving along and helpful for everyone.
  5. I think this is a great idea as more people are using more than just C4D here or are transitioning to other software for certain projects. I am working on a C4D project now but I plan the next one, for example, to be in Blender as that is the only way I will fin ally learn to use it. I will be sure to be taking note on what works for me better in C4D or in Blender.
  6. Lower the display to quick or even constant shading if you can. I was doing that quite a bit with one project that had 4 characters together or at least turn off any effects like reflection etc and see if that helps any.
  7. If I have more than two characters I will sometimes make a rough set of just planes and blocks to show the floor and anything they might have to avoid. I put the actual set in a layer or group and set it off so only the characters are rendered and that helps me quite a bit.
  8. Used softer shadows and added some colour to the light as well as changing the focal length. Much better. I like this sky better as well. I need to figure out why the tree on the hill has a white outline as well.
  9. You might be right. I have admire details and the shot looks off and flat to me now. I might 55 as that is my standard with real cameras for this sort of shot unless I go wide angle. Have to start the house inside and out as well as the character which I decided would be a woman.
  10. Much closer now to what I envision . I removed the house until I can get to work on the real model of it. Working with the textures and local length 80mm seems my better to me than the default C4d 36mm.
  11. Finally made some progress, not much. The lighthouse and house are temporary. The lighthouse will be destroyed and the house will look very different but I think I have the setting I want and I am using the physical sky to create the atmospherics to help show distance. The water is just a plane with a displacers and hot4D with little back and forth animation to show waves coming in and out. The ship shows up later in the film but since it has to be there eventually I thought ti should be in the lighting set up. The script is only a page long so once I get everything made and set up it shouldn't take too long to animate though I have some challenges and effects to figure out as I go along. This rendered in 20 seconds or so with the new machine which made me very happy!
  12. Wow that is an amazing Blender plugin! I am surprised I haven't seen anything like it for c4d! I wish I had more information to help you out!
  13. I just decided to rake a chance and empty my bank account. I am not sold on the m1 chips yet and it was cheaper to get this than to update my v19 of cinema. I honestly think I will overall, get more out of the new computer right now. I am still not used to my applications just opting open so fast!
  14. Radeon Pro 5700 XT with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, that was best they offered for the iMac, I a, amazed at the difference the combo of the i9, the card and having a ssd drive made. I would say this is the largest difference in speed I have ever had when I bought a new machine. I have been drawing a lot these days and I a, thinking of a much more stylized world for this project. Like painting the trees by hand and some of the scenery to give it a more painterly look.
  15. I think starting next week I can finally get back into this project. I should have some peace and quit a couple times a week again to get my head around what I need to do. I have been thinking on it so I'm excited to get some progress soon. I also just upgraded my 6 core i5 iMac to a 10 core i9 with a much nicer 16 gig graphics card. From the tests I did, I now have the power to a a lot more quicker and not have to be so polygon stingy! The simulations tests I did were really impressive as well so I can handle more complicated stuff - very exciting!
  16. I don't know what happened but my fuse update finally started working. I am on V19 so no terrain addition for me, Cycles crashes when I try to do anything with it but all the particles and particle mesh stuff seems up to date and working. I would like to play with cycles in c4d instead of Blender but I doubt I would seriously use it.
  17. I foolishly switched to Fuse from my Xparticles maintenance and it seemed to go well but all the generators, modifiers disappeared. Cycles never showed up at all. I have tried to be sure all oder versions are gone and reinstalled but same problem and it says I still have an older version somewhere. Xparticles needs an uninstaller I think! I couldn't send them a message either, the new registration # on the form gets checkmark saying it's OK but then the form won't send saying the registration # is formatted wrong... frustrating! I gave up since I don't have a week to figure it out and will try again when I have more time. (and patience!)
  18. Everyone works differently I know but I actually visualize the entire project from start to finish in my head, then write it out before starting to make assets and then figure out the more technical stuff like simulations of complicated shots. Most of the time I don't even need storyboards as it just lives in my head until I get it out. I don't recommend working this way, mind you, but since it's only me on these projects I don't annoy anyone else with my weird process! 🤪
  19. I just don’t have time to sketch it out or a moment of peace and quiet to work things out. I have a solid idea of how it will play out, I just need to get to working it out on paper and in c4d! Once I make the character I am looking forward to using the character object for rigging as I haven’t used it in a long while.
  20. One more panel of progress. I have to design a shock or small home on the shoreline and I'm not getting a clear idea of what that should be. I do think this ancient boat washed ashore after the storm will work at least. I am LONG from getting this to animation stage. :(
  21. I am still interested in doing a project with Blender alone, something I can't seem to get my head around but I have a feeling if I do, I might get hooked. The new Cycles X rendering looks really fast. I don't know why I have this stuck in my head, because there is nothing out there to make me think this way, but I have this idea that Blender will be the first 3d software on the iPad pro or an Android tablet. Someone has to be first and I think they are innovating at a pace that might lead them there. On the remote chance that happens - it would be a no brainer for me to switch almost completely since I wouldn't need a laptop when I travel anymore. I know at some point my V19 of C4D will stop working and it might be Houdini or Blender that takes its place.
  22. Thanks Igor I think everyone is having these days all the time lately! Getting this started has lifted my mood a bit! Once I really get into this it will be VERY distracting.
  23. Based on the story "Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You My Lad" by H.R. James. I started this while ago and just have not have the spirit, time or energy to get very far with it. Now the script is written - I've really boiled the story down to the bare bones and these are the first 3 storyboards to make me think I've made progress. So much more to do, there will be an ancient shipwreck washed up to shore, a small hut/house at the edge of the beach and I hope some interesting effects for me to try. I want to make the main, and only character, into a woman and like my last film there will be no spoken dialogue... but there will be written dialogue.
  24. I think it is all very well done but the mood change from the net and lights to the cans of tennis balls is too jarring and the two ideas wold mesh better with slower movement and moodier lighting with the balls. One certainly can mix tones, even dramatically, but it's always going to take a huge effort to make that work.
  25. Certainly ambitious and looking good so far! Pace yourself and enjoy the process and what you learn along the way!
