  1. Many adaptions have it raining, but since it "was the bleak December" snow was more likely I thought. The snow is a bit of an issue with the shadows it casts from the hard shadow light source outside. Unless you see the snow in the window I turn it off so avoid it looking like there are bugs are something running over everything. I am at the point where he will open the window and let the raven in and I think a blast of snow will look more dramatic. I also forgot to turn off volumetric lighting my last render when it wasn't needed and it rushed the render time to 17 hours for a 16 second clip! I started it before bed and it was still going at lunch the next day!
  2. The whispered name "Lenore" I decided early on that Lenore would appear as a ghost/memory and I had sone ideas on how to do that, which I think worked out well.
  3. Up to clip # 10. I have snow falling outside the window which works in this scene but in at least one other where the window isn't in shot, the shadows for the snowflakes looked like flies are something buzzing about so I nixed the snow in those shots. I have just finished 5 shorts with an over the top platypus character, so it's little hard to be so restrained in this one!
  4. I started with an Amiga 500 but ended with an Amiga 3000. I think I started 3d with Turbo Silver pro - or it was called something like that. I remember driving all over creation to find software and hardware as it was pre internet days. I had I think 8 megs of ram and an 100 meg hard drive and people asking what I would EVER do with all that storage and memory!
  5. That was pretty Interesting. I started 3d with amiga as well, but in the 80s.
  6. I have already rigged my current two projects, but i am anxious to start another and use these plugins again! I love the character object Everfresh made avialable, but it isnt ideal for all characters i make.
  7. That's all true! I am going for a different look, I did a more realistic fireplace in this film: https://youtu.be/xg3T2Bfamm4 If you advance to about 1 minute 20 seconds you can see what I did. For this one I wanted less frenetic lighting effects but I might change my mind as I advance. There is a very strong spotlight in the fireplace but it's not casting shadows for some reason. My goal was to reduce the importance of the fireplace visually but you have me thinking that might not be the best idea! I tried something else and you changed my mind. I can keep it less real but still have some dramatic effect. Merci!
  8. Still moving on this. Last week I recorded the narration with my voice actor and this week I've spent about 10 hours editing that and adding sound effects and music. At 9 minutes this will be my longest project. I noticed in the poem the chair is violet, not green so I changed that. Still working out how literal to take some things.
  9. Another small detail to the set. It was fun to design the label so I hope it's somewhat visible in the final cut.
  10. Rendered in C4d then worked on in Affinity photo to give it more painterly look. There will be close ups on it so I thought it merited extra attention.
  11. Lenore, the living version. She will need some minimal rigging so I can pose her for the portrait over the fireplace. I will need a ghostly version and then have her dress wrapped on the bed. She isn't in the poem physically but her presence has to be strong visually I think to make the animation more interesting and work.
  12. I am not sure exactly, it has been in my collection of misc items for a long time and i have seen it used in several toutorials on using materials like sub surface scattering and on several free model sites over the years. I thought it might work as something interesting on the mantel.... i guess it got your attention!
  13. A small step forward. Narrator is rigged. Having a bizarre issue with the texture on the shoes, some grey is showing through the black but it's not geometry. I'll work it out. I am probably going to do more post tone mapping than I usually do but that is along ways off to think too much about now.
  14. Merci! I do sort of go for that creepy puppet look... I can't help it, I am just drawn to that I guess. of course adapting Poe in this case And Lovecraft in a few others lends itself to that sort of look. I have to make a "nice" lenore for use in the final painting over the fireplace and another version. A dead, ghostly one.
  15. Slowly working on this, I have to admit I have obsessed with another project called "Dog and Weasel" which is a lot of fun. I am working on the narrator now and have some ideas for the lost Lenore. Also the raven is pretty much ready except I am deciding on the colour of it's feathers. Pure black in tis dark room makes it invisible so I'll make it a dark grey and maybe add a red light to set it apart from the background.
  16. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB graphics You might be right! The card might be the problem! I usually use the updated graphic card software from Nividia but they have not updated it for Mojave yet so I am using the Mac version and so far I don't see a difference.
  17. 2013 iMac, not problems at all with C4D or Xparticles etc. I don't have Cycles. The transition to manage was super smooth for me.
  18. People like me! I find the character objects are not as good for some things as I would like or overly complicated. I also miss a couple of features exclusive to Dan's plugins. They won't provide plugin support BTW just make then available.
  19. https://insydium.ltd/news/latest-news/cactus-dan/ Insydium has made my love them even more with some new project called bridge that will let us use older plugins on newer versions of C4D is a read it right, but clearly states they are bringing back Cactus' Dan's tools! So excited!
  20. A couple updates. I have to start on the main characters soon.
  21. Tell Tale Heart will be presented at the "Another Hole in the head" film festival in San Francisco this November. If anyone is in the area, please go and feel free to tell everyone how much you love my film! 22. I will look into that! I want to add lenor’s dress to the bed with a rose on it as well.
  23. Moving ahead on my next gothic horror animation. Trying for a more detailed, yet still render in a realistic amount of time look. To that end I removed a lot of reflection and the fire is an animated texture not a simulation. I also added noice to the main light to give more detail to things so i don't have to put stuff on every wall. The use of shadows also fills that space with shapes so the need for paintings and moulding is reduced. I still have t make the narrator character and his dead wife, Lenore but at lest the raven itself is ready. This set is made so I can easily make some of the walls and ceiling invisible for camera placement. There is a balcony and a tree outside the french doors and I think it will be snowing outside. I put a ton of work into the doorway because that is where we see the raven mostly so it have to hold up for many shots and different angles. The painting over the fireplace is temporary as it will need to be made with the image of Lenore from my model of her eventually.
  24. LOL Charles windsurfing in a wheat field would have ben hysterical!
