model on picture looks pretty lowpoly, I think there isn´t too much work start with sliced cylinder with low polycount, with knife cut outline of the hole and extrude polygons out...

    btw, some gun part?

Yeah it sounds easy on paper, but when trying to do it, just having issues. I've been modeling a long time, but some things just don't click with me I guess haha. Yep, it's a gun part :) Trying to re-create an entire AK-47. It's taking a long frickin time!

Oh no this will take hours and hours - it's a bloody hard to shape to try and model !! :)

It can be done with bog standard hard-surface techniques, but it will certainly take a lot of time. I might have a go at it this evening, and see how I do...

Haha alrighty I thought I was going crazy. Just have to accept the fact that it's going to take some time lol

  3. Hey guys I'm working on modeling a complex shape. The attached image is the object I'm trying to re-create. I'm basically just eye-balling it as far as extruding the different cuts and whatnot. I feel like the technique I'm using is horrible because it's taking hours and hours. The area I'm having the most difficulty with is the cut circled in red. Could anyone share insights into modeling this type of thing?

    Thanks!
