thanks guys, some great ideas here. I'm hoping your approach could work Mash, but would need a bit of randomness thrown in too. I'm a bit rusty but I'm guessing one of the deformers and a bit of noise will be my friend here. I'll post back once I get a chance to try it out.

Hello
I'm struggling to recreate the wire that wraps around this 3D star shape - I've got other shapes to do this with as well.
I've made the frame easily enough and have played round with surface deformers, etc but I'm not getting very far. Ideally it needs to look organic.
Hoping someone has a good path for me to go down?
Cheers
Brian

looks really good, I don't use 3D coat but it looks similar to how the acclaimed tools work in that program.

thanks brasc, I'm still not having any luck.
I've just noticed you're in R16, do I need to change anything for R17?
Anyone else got it working in R17?

thanks for this brasco, very generous.
Despite you taking the time to write thorough readme instructions I can't get this to work, the script doesn't do anything and the correct icon doesn't show up, any ideas what I'm messing up?

How do would you recreate this wire?

Managed to get it to here on a quick (noisy) draft render as a proof of concept using your method Mash. I added a displacer on to the wire to add a bit of randomness to it but I think it could work. Just need to redo it now to get a more even wire coverage and work more on the randomness of the LEDS.
