  1. Given the entire channel with all its videos only has about 50K views, it's not like you'd of earned more than a few dollars anyway. If there are videos that are offensive to YouTube, remove the offenders or move them to a separate channel. Either way it would take a significant effort to bring the content up to standards that will get enough views to make it all worthwhile.

So despite what everyone is talking about, the line in the sand is not today (9/1/2019) but rather whenever R22 is released.  That will be the big decision point for everyone because right now life is normal...we are all under the MSA program one last time and paying what we paid in the past.  The big decision point is next year and that is why MAXON is listening to us today.

Many have already made their decision. With MAXON offering their weakest release in history, that made the choice easy. If you feel that strongly about it, giving them your money seems hypocritical.

Maybe because you underestimate how much trust MAXON lost.

    +1

A big part of what made the C4D community great was it's respect and trust for MAXON. I feel we are nothing more than a subscriber # to them now. A company that is user-focused would not implement such heavy handed policies.

Is that true?   Take one step into subscription and ALL your perpetual licenses close forever? Can we get some clarity here?

What Studio owner would surrender their $3,695 perpetual license to get a mere 20% discount off the first two years of subscription and have to pay it all up front.

Give up your license to save about $150/yr, for two years. Could that be right?

In US Dollars, the upgrade from Studio R20 Perpetual to Studio R21 Perpetual is $999.

Sorry but this does not seem to be a fair price for perpetual Studio owners. On top of that, take away the Cineversity subscription. Not a way to treat your loyal customer base.

  6. Why not have a subscribe to own option? My biggest problem is not being able to open my own files if I decide to stop with the subscription. Many other companies provide this option or something similar. Why does MAXON have to go the Adobe route. There are much more user friendly ways to achieve subscriptions.

    You are all now renters.

Paying monthly doesn't really mean monthly - it actually means paying a full annual fee.

The best deal you get is an annual renter fee of $720 - if you stop paying you can't open your old jobs (and you can't do anything about it because it says it in the fine print you agreed to).

If our server has a hiccup, not our problem (read the fine print again).

We're breaking every single one of your plugins too - deal with it.

We're giving you bevels that actually work now, so why should you be disappointed? Don't be ungrateful.

It costs about the same as it ever did with the MSA, but now you don't own it.

That's how it feels. This is our new future.

Interesting to look back at this thread.

I don't even feel like watching this year...Some of the magic is gone I guess...I always took pride in choosing C4D over maya/max 10 years ago. The program was different, the company as well. The users were kind of like cool outcasts.

There was also a sense of genuineness in MAXON but the new CEO's latest presentation was so full of marketing BS that I came to realize this era is now over.

The program is still damn cool but the love factor is gone.

In the past this was always an exciting week. Hear about C4D's new features, lots of discussion on the forums (good and bad), and watching the presentations of the show. This time around, I have not watched a single presentation and have absolutely no interest in doing  so.

There are many companies that offer software subscriptions in a much more user-friendly way. The Adobe way just feels immoral.

  9. This is the most disappointing release since I"ve been with MAXON (R13 Studio). A buyout from Adobe would of been better than this. At least the overall cost of subscription would of likely been less. Sounds great for new users looking to get into C4D, but a kick in the nads for MAXON's loyal customers.

Have always looked forward to C4D new info release day. This one has me thinking about other options.

  10. Here are a few more VR options. Not all are available at this time, coming soon.

New headsets with high res screens:

    HP Reverb

    Acer OJO ConceptD

    HTC Cosmos

    Super high res screens:

    Varjo VR-1

    Some more wide FOV headsets:

    StarVR

    XTAL

Some of these are very expensive, but many of these companies are supposed to produce consumer versions in the future.

The best things are worth waiting for. And why would anyone want a product from FaceBook? I feel dirty just thinking about it.

    Couldn't agree more.

If you don't mind waiting, it should be a great headset.

    @Icecaveman

    Are you getting an Index?

The first batch should start shipping most likely the week of the 17th.

  12. 4 hours ago, Icecaveman said:

Valve Index is the only rational choice.

Index will be much harder to get. Preordering now, you won't see your VR setup until early October.

Rift S will be more readily available as well as half the price.

In addition to the Oculus Medium sculpting app, there is:

    SculptVR

    MasterpieceVR

Other popular artistic apps to check out in VR are:

    Tilt Brush

    Quill

SculptVR, MasterpieceVR, and Tilt Brush are also available on Steam, while Medium and Quill only on the Oculus store.

That is why everything is organized in playlists :)

Youtube is really painful to work with, but simply go to main page of the channel and you will see that we have nice layout with categories and playlist

I know you setup playlists and that's great to have, but that's not how everyone uses YouTube, especially those who will stumble onto videos through search.

Each video should have a descriptive title, keywords, hashtags, description, timestamps, thumbnail image, if you want maximum viewership with YouTube's search algorithms. Understandably, all that takes time and effort, but something to work towards.

As to why they would sell C4D?  The answer is simple.  Money.  More money than C4D is projected to make in the next 100 years.  Making that much money in one quarter means a huge bonus for whoever is at the top of NEMETSCHECK.

Let's also not forget Blender could cut into C4D profits by a lot in the next few years.

Just to put things into perspective. MAXON is a fairly small company, with IIRC about 150 employees. It's parent company Nementschek, worth about $4B. But Adobe is worth a whopping $120B.

To stick with your horse analogy, a winning horse today is not guaranteed to be that in the future. A horse could slow down, get sick, even break a leg. How would you explain to the shareholders that you turned down an offer worth 20x its actual value, more money than it would ever make given the best circumstances. The primary goal of business is to make money.

Of course, I hope none of this ever happens as I have come to despise Adobe and their forced subscription model. It's just that they have the ability to make an offer that would be hard to refuse.

Shame that there is no English help for nodes, I am digging through and have hard time with some.

Surprised MAXON would release a new version and not provide any help for a new highlight feature such as Nodes. They must know that users will  struggle without it.

  16. Can't wait to pick up this training, along with Tim's Fields In One Day, once R20 is released.

Fields is an absolute gamechanger for MoGraph. The possibilities which already seemed infinite are now beyond comprehension. Can't wait to see what the talented C4D community will do with this over the next few months.
