  1. yeah, the sphere is just a test shape. I've seen this effect many times, although I can't say I know anyone uses C4D to do it. But you'll see ice cream bar commercials, Reese's peanut butter cups, etc. The bites are just cuts, really, but the textures stay in place. Like CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP GONE. empty plate. Or the Apple in the first Dr. Strange. I have been playing with Volume builder this morning, but yes, textures are the issue. Thanks for trying.
  2. So I have a sandwich model, and I want to take a few bites out of it. I had hoped to get away with a booleans subtract, but that gives me a hollow cutout and it messes the textures up. (see attached) What's the appropriate way to go about this? thanks for any help! - Mike
  3. Thank you so much @Cerbera. I had hoped it was something easy I missed.
  4. So I have a stone tablet stuck in the sand and I want the tablet to crumble and the pieces fall to the ground, revealing something inside. I have a spherical field fall straight down on the tablet to trigger the tablet crumbling. The crumbling works fine if I put it on a flat plane with a collider, but when I add a "sand" layer (landscape object with colder on it) to simulate that the tablet is about 3 inches into the sand, when I run that it crumbles fine until the spherical field hits the landscape, and then it sort of goes nuts at the bottom like a mushroom cloud. I assume what is happening is the lower part of the tablet, as it gets triggered by the field suddenly sees the sand object and pushes up and away. Any ideas how to do this? I'd love for the crumbled pieces to land on the uneven sand. thanks - Mike tablet_sand.c4d here's a couple stills to show how the tablet crumbles, top down, until the field hits the sand, and then the lower parts go up.
  5. Thanks so much guys. I got it working. It looks like my problem ultimately was I had "color remap" selected in the spherical field I was using to trigger the fracture. That's why I was getting red everywhere that didn't have a texture selection tag applied.. So stupid, sorry to waste everyone's time,
  6. sorry, it should look like this. The only issue I guess is I didn't like how the chiseled letters read with just one material applied everytwhere, so I made a selection tag of the letters, and applied a darker concrete to it. It seems like the selection tag for the letters worked. So should I select everything EXCEPT those polygons and apply the other main material?
  7. @HappyPolygonthanks! Although it did not solve my problem, hopefully you may be able to tell what's wrong. So I uncheck colorize fragments, and checked everything. Checking everything seems to have no effect, but my interior lettering seems to have it's texture. although the rest does not. Can you see in my object menu anything weird? I assumed I would just model and texture the thing, then put the fracture on and it would respect the textures...
  8. So I want to animate a tombstone crumbling. I made one, textured it with a concrete texture (and a darker texture for the letters) and applied a Voroni fracture object to it, but now it only renders in the wacky Voronoi colors. How do I get my concrete textures back onto it? (and honestly why would it'd default behavior be to render these colors anyway?) Thank for any help - Mike
  9. It looks like maybe the size of the movie I was using on the screen was too large. I recompressed it down to 200 MB and it seems to be rendering via Team Render (and at 6 seconds a frame instead of the 45 seconds on my laptop) so this is great. Thanks for reading.
  10. Hi there, I am rendering an animation of a computer monitor, and the screen has an MP4 (1.25 GB) set as an animated texture. When I render on my local machine, the movie is there and works fine. When I render with Team Render (Standard Renderer), the screen is black. All other textures seem to be loading fine to the Team Machine, and the first frame takes awhile so I assumed it was moving the file over, but I am not positive. So is there something else I need to do? MP4 is in the same "tex" folder as other textures. I tried unchecking "Clients get Assets on Demand" in the Team Render prefs, which did nothing. Thanks for any help.
  11. Hi there, I would like to change the y value of a cylinder to go up and down based on an audio track of someone talking. I see some mograph tutorials with audio, but I think what I need is like Sound Object ---> Range Mapper ---->. y position But I don't really know how to link it correctly. Any help would be appreciated - Mike
  12. Hey, @Carolyne did you happen to get an eGPU? I am toying with a sonnet puck 5700, although if I could actually find a beefier AMD card I would go the full Breakway box route, they are just too hard to find (and 2.5x the price they should be if you can find them) thanks! - Mike
  13. Hey all, So I have a model of a car inside a null, and I parented a camera to it inside that null. I then put a series of nulls on the hood of the car indicating areas I want to track. I did a camera move around the car while it went around a racetrack, and when I imported that into After Effects everything went great. I was able to see the nulls, they stayed perfectly cemented onto the hood, and I was able to track them. My problem is I then took those same car model and nulls, but this time I have a camera that is stationary (outside of the car null, just watching the car go by). Now for some reason, it just shows the nulls stationary in 3D space – they do not move with the car. They eventually line up with the car on one frame as it passes them, but even though they are exactly the same as before in the car hierarchy , they do not move/track any longer when I import into After Effects. They move with the car in C4D. Is this because my camera is no longer inside the car null? I don't see why that would matter.Any advice or workarounds? thanks!
  14. wow, thanks @jed @Cerbera I really appreciate it - Mike
  15. OK ,so always make an extra layer of nulls to nest things in that will be aligned to spline? Thanks
  16. thanks so did you just hit the ENABLE AXIS TOOL and rotate the car's axis? IS that always what you need to do or am I doing something wrong when building?
  17. OK, so what am I doing wrong with the align to spline that my cars always: A) suddenly rotate 90 degrees so they just slide oddly down he road, vertically b) if the road has twists/banks, the car doesn't align correctly, so the tires go through the road on the left side going through a turn? I promise I have watched like 6 car tutorials and have even rigged them nicely, but the simple animation of getting them to stick to a road with a few turns and hills is killing me. I know I am missing something super basic Thanks for any help - Mike simple car.c4d
  18. Hi there, I have made some progress since my last post, but still having trouble. can anyone take a quick look at this project? The box and camera follow a path in C4d, but when I open in After Effects, the box seems to be following the correct path but rotated in some way that I can't figure out how to undo. I assume it's a world axis issue? box path_AE.c4d.zip
  19. box path.c4d.zip here is a dumbed down project file. I would love to be able to get useable position keyframes from the box that moves along the path so I can apply them to a light in After Effects. When I choose EXPORT FOR CINEWARE, it at least shows me the BOX as a solid due to the external compositing tag, but it doesn't move along the path Really stumped here, thanks..
  20. Hey all, I'm not sure if this is a baking keyframes problem, or a Cineware problem. I am using C4D r23. I have a null object moving through my scene with "align to spline". That null is guiding my camera through the scene. I also have a cube also doing the Align to spline, just a few frames ahead of the camera, same path. I have an external compositing tag on that cube, because I want to replace it with a lens flare in After Effects. When I import the C4D file into AE and hit EXTRACT, the cube does not show up as it has int he past, even though it has the external compositing tag applied. also, I see position keyframes for my camera, but if I copy them and paste them to a light, the light goes off in a weird direction. so I feel like the world coordinates are off. Both the C4d and AE compassions are set to 1920x1080. I assume it's something weird with the align to path keyframes needing to be baked, but I have selected them in the timeline and hit FUNCTION/BAKE so I am not sure what else to do. The fact that the cube doesn't import is odd to me as well, that used to work fine with the tag. Did anything change in r23? Thanks for any help.
  21. Hey there, I purchased a car model, and the C4D download does not open in r23. I get a message saying it is too old and needs to be opened in r19 or older. It's a 2017 Subaru car model. Would anyone be able to open it and resave it for me by any chance? thanks for any help. - Mike
  22. A client wold like me to buy a model of a car, imagine something like this https://hum3d.com/test/test-trial/ and simulate a front collision. The model is fairly high res. What would you recommend the best way to simulate a front end car crash, so the hood, bumper etc crumple when it hits a wall? Just use some sort of deformer, on the front end? Thanks for any help
  23. @Cerbera Thanks so much. So I got it working with a mesh deformer, except for one problem. When I render, the dynamics do not work. If I hit play in the preview window, it works, and I can render the viewport, but in my actual render, the objects just sit there. They do not fall with gravity. Thoughts? thanks!
