  1. to elaborate further, we don't need to know what happened, just like -hypothetically speaking- Coca-Cola doesn't need to know why the bear they asked me to do looks like a coyote and its blue. If I'm not up to the task, I'm not getting paid until I do, and its the same everywhere. Its annoying, and angering they seem proud to deliver unfinished tools.
  2. Couple of points, if perpetuals hold them back, just ditch perpetual plans altogether, because right now it doesnt help perpetuals or subscribers half baked tools. Or ditch subscriptions, whatever works best. Second, if they release unfinished tools -and they did- then why are they charging us for? Does anyone here delivers some unfinished animation yet ask the client to pay for it? Whatever happened, is not the customers fault.
  3. I finally understand why Blender used right click for so long... I guess someone said "everyone uses left click from Minesweeper to Call of Duty : Ultra Modern Warfare 3000"... to avoid saying we copied them, lets go right click people!
  4. This is getting ridiculous, you guys realize Blender didnt invent sculpting icons or gray interface, right?
  5. Yes I did, that's why I said "either school pays for it, or kids do". Not sure how is done around the world, In my country -Peru- students pays for materials they are going to use through the year. Its payment in advance, they don't physically punch their own credit cards to Maxon website, they pay to the school for all materials they are gonna use in semester, the school assigns someone on sales / IT / management to buy / install stuff. I'm not sure if its the same as tuition fees in Canada or US, and I'm not even sure if Eula / ToS on student software allows for it. In this particular case, the seat has no name assigned to it, a random student will use it, so no point getting a student using his credit card to pay $3 when he isn't gonna keep it, and no point in making all students pay $3 dollars, that would be a steal from the school side, so I guess in this case, the school has to assume the cost in advance. I teached Maya for a year on a local institute. I cant say as a student if I paid for 3d stuff because back in the old days there wasn't schools teaching 3D in my country, so I had to learn the hard way, by using it at work and buying books. I really don't understand the issue at hand, because as a teacher, you don't find by surprise the software has a cost because usually sales / IT / management are the ones who handles this stuff, so you or your students never realize the hidden costs behind, but like I said at the beginning, I'm not sure how is done around the world. We had 3dsmax before changing Maya, I just talked to school about Maya, showed some cool examples about it and the jobs available around it, I didn't physically installed Maya on every computer on campus, neither did the liaison between Autodesk and the institute I was working at. Someone else did that, if that involved a price, I cant really have a way to tell, they just told me "the software you asked is installed" For elective courses, they even have to bring their own equipment, because school wont pay for it (karategi gear, shoes to play soccer for example)
  6. Not to be devils advocate, but how is so different to spend $2.99 in software as is spending in notebooks, pens and whatever kids are using these days? Either school pays for it, or students do. On the other hand, is there a legal reason why they are doing that? perhaps in Germany free stuff isnt allowed by law or something.
  7. Update.. seems like R24 does have Redshift trial and RT installed, but R25 doesnt. Anyone know why? I have 13 days on maxon trial to test a lot of plugins and Redshift is on top of the list. Also. RT doesnt seem to work, but I need to do additional testing, i7 8700 1080 GTX (perhaps is for RTX only?) p.s. Im very bad at creating topics, this one went into Others instead of Rendering > Redshift
  8. Oh.. and the cherry on top, incomplete tools on each update.
  9. Please correct me if im wrong, but I really dont get Maxon subscription program if -excluding patches- it means getting updates twice a year, instead of the old once a year.
  10. I personally love the new UI, I think is a step ahead of what we had before, corner icons that expand materials and animation tracks are really well thought, I cant really understand why people are confused by the new icons, but I also use shift+C for everything since commander exist and I used to personalize my UI with icons in the middle just like you guys did in R25, so I'm already predisposed to like the UI, I would appreciate if xpresso were upgraded as well, I watched your live today with Rocket Lasso, was great, capsules have a ton of potential. And If capsules / scene nodes are gonna replace xpresso eventually, just say it, so we can start learning them. What I don't appreciate is having to pay for UI and improvements that really aren't there yet, and no one knows when they will be ready because Maxon keeps things pretty close to the chest. For example, capsules selection are really weird, because they don't show what you are selecting unless you add another node or a material, and for some technical reason they cant replicate the color selection in the viewport. Also, you can select by index, but you cant really tell the index number of your polygons, and no one implemented a way to do that. Anyway, I'm too old to remember when was the last time people were asking Maxon to be more transparent, but I do remember a blog where Maxon acknowledged lack of information, Bodypaint improvements, the new core and a lot of promises that up to this day haven't been fulfilled, so.. I guess this is it. Good luck everyone. ps. I'm attaching my old UI - 2013, with icons in the middle.
  11. Hi, I downloaded maxon one 14 day trial, I installed Redshift but It doesnt appear on Cinema 4D, also Redshift license info only says no valid license found, and Im not sure how to enable Redshift trial.
  12. Its a general rule to somehow moderate forums. Anyway. Back to the topic. Anger from yesterday is over, new interface is awesome, I need to dive into capsules right now. Lets see how long the honeymoon last.
  13. Dev response in Blender is truly great, no matter if they are developers from Blender Institute or plugin developers. In a nutshell what happened with Pablo was, he explained on his blog his roadmap for sculpting improvements, and the community wasn't willing to wait, and they can be very vocal, as everyone that has ever crossed a blenderite in a C4D / Maya / 3dsmax / Zbrush / Houdini forum can tell.
  14. I didnt say everyone. But it is a known fact most blender community is toxic. Even the sculpting thread in Blender Artist forum acknowled that toxic community drove Pablo away. And is luchifer, my spelean friend
  15. Grass is greener until you look closer and see the sculpting developer, amazingly talented Pablo Dobarro, just left because blenderites are toxic and lack of communication between developers.
  16. To be fair, Hard Surface Modeling isn't Maxon strength. On the other hand, Pablo Dobarro taking a break of Blender is more impactful because he was a developer, and sculpting is a big deal in Blender.
  17. For me, the track retiming tag looks pretty cool, and of course Redshift RT Beta. Cant wait to try it, though I guess if it isnt advertised as much, must be because it has some pretty strong limitations at the moment. Capsules, node editor, looks more and more like another way more powerful software. What I really hate, is the slow development of tools, the excuse from old days was "the core wasnt ready", and Im not sure what is it this time. I get they are building something good, but if it takes so long, no one will be around to use it. Final note: I don't get the interface hate, because it does look cool and it has a ton of improvements for faster workflow, and while I dont like the snail speed of development, I do love they keep improving the interface and some everyday tools, but developers cant be blind, we customers pay a lot of money for new features and you guys are delivering faster shortcuts and faster menus, and small improvements, but not overall speed. Its like paying for a new car but with the same engine, only this time you press a button to start the ignition instead of using keys, and the radio buttons are on the wheel, and we are F1 drivers asking for more speed for more than a decade.
  18. Ok I thought normals affected collisions, have you tried Ctrl + D / Dynamics / turn visualization on, to see if collision are working?
  19. If you are unsure about the normals, go to viewport Options and disable Backface Culling If its only moving forward, you can also try editing the track that works, increase its width and do a couple cuts to delete the middle part, instead of using two planes.
  20. As an anecdote about performance, when I was doing some legos with Studio 2.0, neither Blender or Maya could import the bigger ships, while C4D did it without issues. On the other hand, playback speed for characters in Blender is way better than C4D -But thats also because C4D has everything nested and modifiable, and Blender has more destructive tools (Like landscape tool, everything in C4D is modifiable forever if you dont convert it, while in Blender, just move the landscape and thats it)
  21. I havent retested recently, I tend to avoid large objects in general, or just work with them in Zbrush, because, while is true C4D sculpting is basic, Zbrush is way better than both, I dont really find a reason to sculpt in Blender instead of Zbrush, I can do hardsurface in Zbrush with Zmodeler and it has an army of tools like spotlight modeling for hardsurface. Disclaimer, In no way im disregarding all the excellent work Pablo Dobarro is doing to enhance Blender sculpting tools.
  22. some Blender short films are done by Blender Foundation, and yeah, Blender has a lot of strenghts, but on the other hand.. you also don´t see a lot of Motion Graphics done with Blender for a reason.
  23. Softimage, I still have some tutorials I bought but never did because.. EoL
