Could be that we will see some familiar faces again back on forum if they opt to go back to C4D, such as @3DKiwi

LOL, nope. 3 months later I've only just found out that Modo development is ending. I haven't done anything in Modo for years. I've modelled a few bits and pieces with MOI (Nurbs modeller) for 3D printing.

    Cheers

  2. I've just paid the 5 Euro's after getting the email. You can cancel recurring / automatic payments within your Paypal account.

BTW thanks for the couple of replies following my earlier post.

Is your friend Andrew Price (aka Blender Guru).  His donut tutorial is a very famous beginners tutorial for Blender newbies.   Right up there with 3D Kiwi's little blue airplane tutorial (okay...as it has been some time and we have many new members, is there anyone out there who has never heard of the Little Blue airplane tutorial?).

Very cool Igor.    I can see why once you have successfully made that transition, you can see the whole new world that Houdini opens up to you.

Hi Dave. Thanks for reminding me. I had a lot of fun making that tutorial. Image attached.

I'm not doing a lot of 3D these days. I haven't renewed my Modo subscription this year. They've gone a bit like Maxon with mediocre releases of late. Any 3D stuff I do is designing Lego motorcycles using a free online Lego modeller Mecabricks. So I've gone from making 3D Lego models to actually making real ones. I was doing this before but now I'm a bit more serious about it. Attached is my latest creation finished yesterday. Not quite finished as the exhaust hoses are wrong. I'm waiting for some different length hoses to arrive in the post. This is based off someone else's design but I had to deconstruct it based upon some photos they put online back in 2015. 90% their work, 10% mine. Lazareth LM 847. Has a Maserati V8 engine. I've now got about 50 Lego motorcycles in my collection.

Glad I'm not still waiting for the Bodypaint / UV Editing updates promised years ago in Cinema 4D. Apart from the interface changes and a couple of small enhancements to the UV tools, nothing much has changed since I jumped ship with the dismal R17 release.

    Cheers

Great idea though to open it to other programs.   Will there be separate sections for each software program (similar to CG Networks).  Maybe open a modo section and invite 3D Kiwi back to be the moderator.

LOL. I think my moderating days are over.

Good luck to Igor and thanks to Hrvoje. Good to see the cafe or whatever it's now called still going 🙂

p.s. the "favicon" needs updating to the new name. It still says C4D Cafe.

  5. Although I don't post much these days I check in several times a week. Yeah I watched the Neutron preview and it looks awesome. Had MAXON released this while I was still using C4D I would likely still be here. In my opinion Neutron is a lot further along in development than what they may have hinted at. They've been working on it for many years. They were certainly working on it when I was a Beta tester but we were never shown anything.

Hope you are all doing well. Life is good here in New Zealand with no Covid-19 and the only cases being people caught at the border. New Zealander's returning home all have to go into managed isolation / quarantine. Those of us that still have a job are all back at work and life is pretty much back to normal. Yeah still riding my bike a lot, still using Modo and modelled  a number of big Lego models when we were in Lockdown 2 months ago. Modo's core is being upgraded like C4D's. Development isn't as fast as what people would like but they are making progress.

    Stay safe everyone 🙂

  6. No one wants speed improvements? Part of the reason for the core rewrite was to make C4D handle more complex scenes and be a lot quicker. As far as I know you're all still waiting. So for me, not that it really matters since I no longer use C4D my top 5 would be:

    Faster / handle more objects

Bodypaint / UV tools replaced. Unbelieveable that the UV tools still haven't been replaced

Modelling tool enhancements e.g. proper symmetry modelling, Bridge tool enhancements, modelling fall offs.

Thinking Particles replaced. Alternatively admit defeat and remove TP and make X-Particles the default particle system. Do some sort of deal where users can buy X-Particles at a reduced price

Lower the price of monthly subscriptions. Given the world we currently find ourselves in with Covid-19 things are going to be tough financially for a few years. Unless the price comes down those charging hefty subscriptions could struggle. Blender is starting to look mighty attractive at the moment.

I would say that should MAXON  ever improve C4D's ability to handle massive object counts,  then X-Particles will be giving Houdini a run for their money as a much friendlier option for doing some pretty cool VFX work (Houdini will still have the lead on absolutely outstanding jaw dropping VFX work, but it won't be as much fun to create).

It's coming Dave, you're just going to have to wait. All part of the rewritten core / object management that we've yet to see everything of and only seen bits of it. My guess is when they finally get around to rolling out the new UV toolset is when the rewritten core will be fully unleashed. I think at the same time we'll see an upgraded XPresso with more nodes and a lot faster i.e. multi-threaded.

Fun times ahead with Blender on a roll. MAXON, The Foundry and others will need to lift their game over the next couple of years and give users a reason to part with their money rather than changing over to Blender.

Yes Nigel, I agree with you. You mean there’s an addon similar to Xpresso?

Yeah there's a free add on "Animation Nodes" that gives it an Xpresso like node system. A little bit clunky to use as you often need to use a number of intermediary nodes when say hooking up rotation channels.

It's in all shops.  I'm on R19 so it would be cheaper for me to upgrade without using this deal at $995.  R18 people would pay this same price anyway.  Only for people with R17 or older would this be a good deal.  Maybe @3DKiwi might be interested.

I doubt I would qualify with my not for resale version of R16. I'm currently running the Beta version of Modo 13 and it's looking really good. I see no reason to come back to Cinema 4D anytime soon.

  10. So where does "Honourable Member" fit in? Above or below a Regular Member? Think I would rather be called a Regular Member or a "Cafe Regular".

BTW "Honourable Member" is a term used in Westminster Parliaments (UK, Australia, New Zealand etc) that is used when referring to a member of Parliament.

I think that might be a remnant of the original cafe group names - I can see what @3DKiwi was probably trying to go for there, but agree it feels a little odd if for no other reason than that you don't see it on any other forums :) Just out of interest, what would you call that group ?

    CBR

Nah. Pretty sure we didn't have corny member titles like this. We had the following titles from memory which were the defaults for the forum:

new member (under 2 posts), regular member (more than 2 posts), moderators, administrators

Then we had the bronze, silver and gold Cafe supporters club badges.

  12. Sort of makes you wonder why we still have Thinking Particles in C4D. I almost wonder if MAXON should bite the bullet and remove TP then drop the price of the Studio version and then do a deal with Insydium where when you buy the Studio version first time round you can add on X-Particles at a discounted price.
