Agreed. When someone makes derisive and fallacious comments such as "Nobody good ever uses X" they should be called out. There is no place for that kind of dialog. It's not only patently false, it's inflammatory.
In return I offered a gentleman's challenge where users could enjoy, discover and make their own conclusions. That challenge has yet to be accepted; instead insults fly.
Wow u got serious issues mate. And I cannot find a way to block u. I have to keep getting ur notifications...

You do make it easy to expose your silliness as you wildly spray out childish, yet bold declarations.
ALL of Amazon's "The Man in the High Castle" were modelled and rendered in Blender/Cycles. And this was long before the rapid growth in both Blender and the emergence of CyclesX. One of countless examples.
You might want to stop digging a hole for yourself.

This language ur using since many posts now is toxic and somehow encouraged from others I guess since no one is deleting ur posts, or warns you. You can have a convo without insulting others.

And I am sorry but the most viewed thread is this one the last few days. These are the topics the new 3d artists watch and things like "how to achieve photorealism" "what is the best render engine". Not "xpresso vs scene nodes"

You're conflating a bit there. The bits of the forum that help new users tend not to be these extended discussion threads. Forums themselves are not tiring, just some threads within them But people have to have somewhere to go to talk about these things, so it might as well be here, if we can all continue to play nicely together and not throw our toys out of the pram...
CBR
Indeed some threads are extremely tiring when people try to make it a dick measuring contest. And this is not playing nicely.
So far I haven't replied rude as other people speak to me to this pointless, biased and full of misinformation thread.
Again, for any new person reading this: if u starting on this industry, don't use CyclesX u wont find a job nowhere.
My 2 cents.1 -

You have quite a high opinion of yourself, being able to speak conclusively about all global studios. I can see why you would grow weary of discussing things with mortals on a forum; dealing with human biases and opinions must be so tedious for you.
EA Studios, Ubisoft? Heard of those massive 3d studios? They have hundreds of Blender artists employed.
I can understand why you might not want to hang around for a side-by-side comparison. Picking which renderer is which in an A-B comparisons is silly human stuff.
Again ur not making any sense buddy and u try to make it personal. Sad to see so much amount of misinformation in forums for new people.
CyclesX is not used in any studio as main render engine. Fact, not my opinion, nothing to do with me.
I wish every studio would use Octane but hey.. I am not the one being super biased here.
I guess it's not common knowledge that the majority of CGI industry uses Arnold/Redshift. Well, surprise!0 -

I have Octane and Blender 3.1, which features CyclesX. I'll render a scene with both and the forum here can compare. My hunch is that your claim might not hold up and that you won't be able to identify the renderer at all. But hey, maybe I'm wrong. Don't make yourself a stranger when that thread shows up.
It should be also noted: Octane works in Blender.
Totally irrelevant remark.
What this has to do with production? No one, literally no one uses CyclesX in any good studio either vfx or design or mograph.Forums are kinda tiring, I 'll stop commenting I guess. Only reason is to help new people, but I guess it's very hard to cut through the noise of personal/biased views and opinions.

Ok, how he was able to share Notion with everyone? I tried and never managed to figure it out.

there's this option in the upper left corner "share" where you can create a "public link" even with a free account.it's an ugly url but it works,..

Another resource from a friend for C4D to Houdini artists:

Oh sorry Igor, not very good at catching up with every forum and chat these days hehe. But definitely whatever else free I create I will share here!

Just on the tutorials side of things, as someone who has been learning Blender recently, I think Blender has been far easier to find good tutorials and quickly find answers to questions already posed than my experience when I was learning Cinema 4D. It's particularly noticeable when comparing Cycles and Redshift. Not to say that Blender is easier to learn than Cinema 4D, because I find Cinema 4D a bit more logical, but I think the learning resources are easier to get to for Blender.
What do you think is missing as learning material in c4d? I am asking this as I do lots of tutorials/courses as a side thing.

C4d is far from dead imo. But, he's right on some things.
Since r20 the progress is next to 0. Updates are all over the place and are not targeting professionals anymore. The pricing model is too much, no indie (no reason not to have indie in our times).
C4d is a great piece of software with the best UX and with tons of possibilities, but limited scalability. That applies to people that can really push c4d to it's limits though and not everyone. For the majority there is 0 need in looking into other software.
In order to do amazing things with blender (and any software) u need to be an amazing artist, softwares don't do things on their own, they just give u a head start. Preaching about Blender, but showing next to nothing for it (typical pattern I see online), is common nowadays. I am also curious what is soo much better than c4d honestly, cause with capsules, c4d imitates Houdini's sop tools and there ain't a better way to work procedurally. I really think people go to Blender cause its free. So c4d has to adapt its pricing to fight that.
Lastly, please.. there is no other engine atm in industry but Redshift, Octane and Arnold. Cycles or Eevee are not even competitors. Eevee is not a renderer, its a zpass with diffuse textures. Try to get a job in any proper vfx/design studio by showing in a cv with Cycles/Blender and let me know if u ever hear back
I think listening to people raging in forums is also helpful though, cause besides random arguments they have some truths in there as well. C4d is not spotless, but its still kicking ass + has a huge community and tons of tutorials around.
But it needs proper updates in terms of performance, needs to stop adding features like Looks in the viewport or GoZ or autoextruded AI files and get serious with a roadmap that address professionals. And ofc more flexible pricing. I work both in c4d and Houdini now, cause of these reasons. And I'd definitely leave c4d for H if it wasn't so damn difficult software.

It's been a while since I logged here. Thanks for pushing this further @Igor ! I 'd love a basic SOP course with your modelling knowledge!
I wanted to share some basic intro series for c4d artists that I have in my youtube channel. I hope you find it helpful! Cheers

Hi,
I wanna have random values per frame that are fixed to 0-20-40-60-80-100
How is that possible?
thanks0 -
awesome thanks!

But i can just manually scale the bend as well no need for a cube. He did it in a way that it was done automatically but i cant remember at all. Anyways thanks for the input!

Hi,
So under a null I have a cloner and a bend deformer. How can i fit the bend to the size of the cloner?
i know its doable somehow i seen Chris Smidt doing it at some point but not straight forward. Any ideas appreciated0 -
Im in the closed beta and... it never worked here haha I was busy doing client work so didnt try it much after 1-2 failed installations. I think it must be great though as Jascha is really smart about building fast and steady plugins!

I barely charge this amount/hourly and i have clients like Microsoft and Apple among other stuff.. And i do actual work...
Ridiculous and the analogy with someone's "time" when u spend thousands of euros in a software and they repeatedly charge you is simply bad policy. Of course people will jump to other software like this...
And what companies dont understand is that good artists advertise ur software. Not good marketing, but good artists... Try to hold to them.
I ll mention here the GSG plus policy that wants to charge me for using HDRI Link 400$ per year... Even though I own all of their stuff before plus, from plugins to tutorials... Everyone is looking to milk whatever they can...2 -
In R25 can u create catalogues from asset browser?
The only function I am after is, pointing to some directories that I have so i can browse and drag n drop my textures or files in c4d viewport. But in S24 this wasnt possible. Is that in R25?
Thanks1 -

Yes, attributes can be any name you like. Also there are now many nodes which can be used so that you don't have to rely on the Vex.
Check some of the notes I put in here Houdini Notebook.xlsx
I need to do better job of organizing this document, but as you can see there is a lot to cover.
Woahh! u done an amazing job of staying organised! this is gold!!!

Thanks for the tips. I am all over attribs at the moment. Eye opening was the fact that a "zscale" in polyextrude, can be renamed to whatever and still act like zscale.
So i was using falloffs/masks but i had no idea how to connect these with the rest of my nodes. And it was simply naming everything the same while keeping types consistent (float, vector etc). This can be tricky at the beginning cause attributes seem much simpler to understand, but in fact there is great depth to this subject.
Also a cool little trick :0 -
Hah for sure! I hope I keep up since client work incoming on Sept.
Trying to understand groups/attributes and loops. Its brain damaging at the very least haha but I just woke up few days ago and things started make sense more than before. I think once u stuck with something, u need to move on and give it some space for digesting the info. Otherwise frustration is real. I think H redefines 3D and makes me realise how smart C4D is written as well.

Hey Igor, great thread here. As i started H myself for the 3rd time, things have started to stick. Im focusing a lot on mograph/vellum but i think SOP is really important for anyone. Its not like c4d where i skipped completely modelling and i went to cloners, H needs solid foundation or u get super lost.
I was wondering do u have in mind any tutorials for beginners in the future? Showcasing all sop operations u know with simple examples etc?
Cheers!!0
