  1. Hi all, Been searching for the past couple of days and reached the dead end. Is it possible to use vertex map to grow Hair just like it's done with Fur? I've looked in every possible tab under the Hair Object and can't seem to find the field for vertex map. I'm using a Freeze Field Grow map to slowly grow some plants on the wall. But heck no. Thing is, I can perfectly apply my vertex map to Fur, but then I can't generate instances with the Fur object. On the other hand if I use Hair to generate instances then I'm unable to apply the vertex map. Wow. Attaching the project with a vertex map. Any help? hair_vertex_map.c4d
  2. Hey Cerb, nice to see you mate! Thank for the advice, I did manage to turn my plants into a hair generator, however the one issue remains unsolved - how do make hair grow according to my vertex map? In the tutorial above they used MoGraph cloner to activate the vertex map. I can't seem to find anything of that sort in Hair Object however. Scene attached hair_grow.c4d
  3. Hey guys. This tutorial here It's awesome, thanks to all the team putting in effort, definitely much needed. Question - how do I make the plants that are growing using the above mentioned MoGraph technique actually dynamic? I want them to have a little movement, reacting to the wind ever so slightly and a little stem/leaves wiggle here and there. So far I've tried 1. Adding Jiggle deformer to the plants, but it just made the whole thing froze 2. Applying Rigid Body - but then realised how stupid an idea it was 3. Applying Soft body - now typing from my friends laptop, since the main PC hasn't still recovered (LOL) Any ideas?
  4. Guess that means Turbulence FD hello again 😀 Obviously TFD stays our go-to Pyro guy, so really looking forward for the update.
  5. Anyone played with this bad boy? Your thoughts? Does it have much more to offer than Turbulence FD or Xparticles in terms of real-time pyros?
  6. That's right. But I was also looking for some insight from people who own and use laptops for 3d on a daily basis.
  7. Hey yall, Looking for a mobile machine and kinda torn between https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-TUF-Gaming-A15/. (ASUS TUF a15) https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-y-series/c/legion-laptops-series (Lenovo Legion 7) and https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Laptop/AERO-17--Intel-9th-Gen#kf (Gigabyte Aero 17) There are some MSI ones that look pretty snazzy but never tried those. My main concern is the bloody power brick, I just can' wrap my head around the fact that in 2020 we are still using 3 tonn brick to power up the machine. Can anyone suggest anything? MUST HAVE: AMD Ryzen ( ok maybe INTEL 😉 ) but defo Nvidia RTX!
  8. Quite frankly I've only started with Houdini a few days ago haha, so to me at the moment it looks like this: What did strike me though, is that granular (grain) solver worked a breeze in Houdini using Vellum Grain solver. Tried simulate the same with Cloner Object in C4D and obviously it crashed. Hence I was so interested in simulations in Houdini to be then exported to C4d for texture and rendering purposes.
  9. Hey thanks a lot! I will take a look at your files and follow ur advise
  10. Hey yall, I have created this particle sim in Houdini and are now looking for ways to export this to Cinema 4D to texture and render there. What options do I have? (file attached) grain sim.hipnc
  11. So from what I gather Houdini is more like Cinema in conjunction with X Particles. I obviously don't think about switching, I'm super happy with Cinema overall, was just wondering if there is something I'm missing haha. Thank you for the explanation, it clears up a lot. Maybe it's because you often hear "Oh, Houdini is for professionals in film industry"... as if Cinema is for toymakers
  12. Hey all, Been watching some youtube videos on Houdini lately and besides it being hella complicated (well from what I could tell) in terms of UI and all the node-based modelling, I struggle to understand if it has anything superior to offer, something we don't have in C4d. Can anyone shed a light on its pros and cons?
  13. That's some heavy arsenal right there. 1.Is x particles fluid sims better than Real Flow? 2. Can you please expand on how do you use UE4 in conjunction with C4D for visualization?
  14. Hey everyone. I was wondering what other programs form your C4D pipeline and why. I am using Blender for its new cloth brush which I find absolutely incredible. My current pipeline consist of Substance Painter, Sketchup and Blender. Would be interesting to see what others use and most importantly for what particular reason.
  15. What about monitors, any suggestions? I'm an avid user of AE and PR so video editing-firendly monitor is a must have
  16. Got it. Well I've just copied your build with a slightly more expensive video card. Is it really worth going with 2080ti for C4d? Especially when I'm using Corona CPU haha (looking to switch to Octane or Redshift soon...)
  17. Just had a read through. OK I'll be frank, I don't understand all the techy-things but my understanding is that you've had it since Xmas. So far, is there anything you'd change about it or youэку pretty satisfied with the built overall? I know Gigabyte is licensed to build NVIDIA cards, but does NVIDIA manufacture as well? Now there are quite a few items to put together, was it relatively easy to do and did you buy it all from Overclockers?
  18. Would you mind sharing the specs and what monitor did you go with? AMD? Isn't it all about NVIDIA lately, CUDA this CUDA that? The only impression of AMD I have is that it's sh*** as hell, well obviously it is, it's an iMac built-in AMD Radeon. Will take a look at the thread now EDIT: Please ignore the above, silly me haha, reading the thread now .
  19. Hey guys, currently eyeing a PC powerhouse for work. What would you pick out of this lot https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-systems/gaming-pc/nvidia-geforce-pc/rtx-gaming-pc, budget £2-3k? Also, I keep seeing this BEN-Q monitor with a lot of praise. Anyone own it?
  20. Hey , thanks for the tip! Assign UVW is greyed out. Where do I find Stick Texture tag?
  21. Hey guys, I am trying to apply a texture to an animated stock puppet head, however, when the head is moving (nodding continuously) the texture is also moving along with it. I tried Generating/Assigning UVW coords but those are greyed out. The only way the texture seems to glue to the object is when I switch to UVW Mapping, but I'd like to use Cubic instead. Is there a way to fix it?
