Ever fresh, I am creating oil spill cleanup animations. I wanted to see what your final solution was. I've been trying to use Real Flow plugin from within C4D, and it mixes with other liquids created by the same scene, but doesn't play nice with other objects, like sticking to the deformed surface and move along with, my water.
