    What part of

do you think he is implying his is interested in any opinion ?  His post was just a tantrum, a statement. The fact it was posted under the Dscussion category doesn't make it a discussion post.

    This is a discussion post

While yes he may be gone, he may check back. Others feeling the way he is may read the thread as well. We cant take it personally and we can only hope for the best and offer what we know as hopefully helpful information.

    I dont get it...

Someone posts a ragequit on C4D and everyone just comments on it for no particular reason.

It's obviously a firestarter otherwise he would re-appear making a conversation. And his history in this forum is very short.

Why instead of buring this post in favor for something more interesting people keep it afloat with new comments ? (asking for my sociology study...)

having these types of discussions can be good. OP may see opinions of people that have tried blender and c4d both and see their comments and help inform his decision. What software to use a big debate no matter which community you are in.

  3. I recently made a post about the thought of switching from c4d to 3dsmax myself and came to the conclusion that ill be sticking with c4d. While part of my decision was made because I dont want to waste more time learning a whole new software, I truthfully just think you have to find the program thats right for you. if you have issues with c4d you cant overlook or work with than maybe a switch would be good for you. However, there is no reason for the hateful and clearly bias statements towards maxon. They do care and update constantly. Blender will have the same issues and youll realize that after some time spent on blender.

In short, its difficult. Just today Im on a job which needs me to match a turquoise colour, for days we've been going back and forth with the client telling me the colour doesnt match, it isnt close enough etc. So they finally sent me a physical sample instead of a photo and... the colour of the product is so far out of the srgb colour space, it isn't even funny. Their photos are miles off reality, my render based on pantone references are miles off, because the srgb version of the pantone reference is also miles off.

Is your work going on a screen or getting printed? You may find you literally cannot match the colour for most people.

If you want to really match the colour, truth is youre going to have to adjust the render in post production in a properly colour managed app like photoshop, using a screen you know is accurate, and youll need to consider, the majority of computer screens are trash and will screw up your colour representation anyway.

So funny story, a customer called to complain that a white vanity was "too white". She was very unreasonable to say the least. Turns out that she was looking at the product on her computer which had an older monitor that is toned to more of a yellowish tint... Some people you just cant please and thats the sad reality.

I was also just told that while we use Sherwin Williams - Salty Dog Blue, its not exactly salty dog blue because the cabinet makers add some sort of thickening to it that darkens the original color slighty. I now have a full cabinet in my office and a drawer on my desk to work this out..

Well, if it s a photo-real or even just realistic style render then ANY lighting you do is going to affect that base colour, which will result in you being unable to reliably pick the correct specific hex value from the render. But I would argue that is expected in any realistic shot, and I would simply accept there is going to be some minor variation in the render, and also include a 2D swatch of the exact colour in the listing so that no1 can send stuff back !

    CBR

See, I can accept the fact that it cant be truly perfect. The sales team and customers however arent as forgiving. May just need to do an actual photoshoot for some additional product images along with the renders. Thank you for the response, it atleast validated what I already thought.

  6. Im working to add a new color option to our products, before we had simple white, espresso, and gray. Now we are adding "Salty Dog Blue"... I've tried several things to get a good match but customers noticing the slight difference in color and returning the product is my concern.

Below are the levels and codes to get the correct color but how do I actually account for the true LRV (light reflectance value) in c4d? If not, how do you work to achieve the exact colors without simply using a reference image.

The RGB values for Sherwin Williams SW9177 Salty Dog are 28, 61, 86 and the HEX code is #1C3D56. The LRV for Sherwin Williams SW9177 Salty Dog is 4.28.

If all you need are tons of ready assets then there's nothing better than Max + Vray or Corona. Both engines right now have access to the Cosmos library also in C4D, the library is growing every day and there are very interesting plans to expand the feature set. If you are in a hurry just start to use Max and enjoy the vast ecosystem, if you can wait a bit probably you will be fine also on C4D.

What do you mean about the waiting a bit for c4d? has something been announced?

  8. This has been on my mind alot and im considering learning a new 3D program instead of C4d.

My work is all bathroom interior product shots. Rooms and images have to be done quick as we get lots of new products and I only use the same room twice at max so Im making new rooms constantly... The issue is C4D doesnt support mtl files and im extremely jealous of the fast workflow for people in 3dsmax that can drag and drop models in WITH the materials already inplace and essentially perfect if your lighting and scene are realistic. This would increase my workflow greatly. Making the textures isnt hard, but tedious and gets messy when you have 100s of files for textures that you have to manually put on and adjust.

I've been hopeful that one day id find a website that specifically does c4d (corona friendly) made models and textures but its such a niche thing that at this point I dont see it happening. (if you are aware of a website that does this let me know please!)

I guess what im searching for is others opinions on switching specifically for my reason listed above and if others have gone through this too. Also curious what programs youd suggest for drag and drop (already textured) models? Currently 3ds max seems like the best bet but im open to suggestions!

I wanted to mention that on the "Effects I'd like to know how they were made" but he morphs so quickly that I don't even thing there's a smooth transition. I think the new form just pops out from a heavy blur. The effect of the clothes roling down is intresting and that's what sells the illusion best.

It happens so fast its hard to see exactly whats happening but ya, i could see them doing a really clean blur and overlaying another model. Probably a lot more simple of a process but they sure fooled me!

  10. something I've noticed in almost all the new animated movies is the use of character morphing and its simply amazing how clean it looks. One of the siblings has the ability to transform into other people and the seamless morphing really caught my eye when I watched it with my kiddo.

Maybe its just me, but I feel like im seeing more and more use of character and model morphing in each animated movie that comes out and it just gets cleaner and better executed each time I see it!

for sure! pausing sounds like the way to go. Although Idk if the scene I would consider big? and just navigating through c4d while IPR is paused or even off still seems way to slow on average. Definitely seems better with forester off but I feel like I've done similar scenes with forester and c4d didnt' chug like it does now 😞

I always have issues with R25 when they release a new update for it. Yesterday there was an update so Id try to update it and reopen the scene again. Even if the update doesnt say anything about improved performance, it seems to improve.

  12. I understand he is doing purely performance, and I'm happy to see Corona pull through and get the recognition is deserves. However, I would consider the communities around each renderer. I love Corona not only for its performance but the community is so helpful and the devs/team respond near instantly on the forums.

I fell inlove with Vray first, but its glass is just awful and was bad enough to make me move to Corona

  13. I loved r21 for a long time, but im on r25 now. Crashes are common but I've changed my workflow to work around it. Now I save the files before I do anything drastic that I think might cause a crash and if it does crash, its just a force close and reopen to get back to where I was. Not ideal, but for Corona Renderers daily builds its best to have the most recent c4d version so I live with it.

As for the UI, I hear a lot of people complain about it but truthfully it takes 1-2 hours of being annoyed with it then you are used to it. HOWEVER I occasionally do Cineversity tutorials and they dont update often and that becomes a real hassle... I've contacted Cineversity and they will come out with more up to date tutorials using the newest UI but by the time they come out Im willing to bet the UI changes again.  Its a never ending battle.

EDIT  Your issues around windows updates is very common for sure. especially with people that dont have high end PCs (but still effects high end PCs too, just not as common). My workstation is low budget compared to most people in our field and it comes with a lot of extra work. Researching updates before I install them is now a weekly thing sadly. Example for this would be when windows 11 came out... I was just about to update when I saw there were issues with it nearly halving your PCs RAM for whatever reason. We are their test dummies when they roll out updates (even if they say they mass test it).

I agree with you that more people need empathy and not immediately blame the user. Some people forget where they came from and are typically condescending to people that might not have as much knowledge or the budget for what they have. That being said, this is the most kind and respectful forum you will find for our jobs.

And how this should look like, do you have an example? This might be a bug on import or export.

It should just be the black part of the logo extruded 35mm. Its going to be a 3d print when i figure this out. BUT I found out that cineversity has a plugin called CV-ArtSmart thats specifically for importing these types of files. I have to let a render finish before I restart c4d and try it out. Ill let ya know how it goes!

  15. Hello!

I just watched the videos about all the changes made in R25 and the SVG import update has peeked my interest but Im having issues with it... When I import an SVG file I get a mess of splines. I checked for tutorials but there doesnt seem to be any. Can anyone help me troubleshoot through this?

Process - Vector image saved out of illustrator as .SVG > Drag and dropped into C4D R25 > Results below.

Thanks in advance for helping my nooby ass!
