  1. Happy - You are exactly right, and what you have forced me to realize is that C4D's Pyro simply isn't advanced enough to do things like consider the air surrounding an object and how a moving object affects the air as it moves through it, thus affecting the smoke. In the end, this is a limitation of the C4D Pyro system and if I want to do the more advanced stuff, like accurately affect a cloud of smoke with a moving object, I need to either find a way to fake it, or use a more advanced tool, like Houdini, X-Particles, or FD Turbulence. I suspected as much, but thank you for helping me see the forest through the trees.
  2. Thanks, Happy, for the response. I should have added that I've also tried a hi-res cube and even a torus. The torus worked. The cube didn't. No happiness, Happy. After a few more experiments with various shapes I believe this has everything to do with the flatness of the side of the object that is hitting the smoke, and angle at which it is hitting it. The more flat the surface and the closer to 90 degrees it's movement is in relation to the angle of the surface, the less impact it has on the cloud. It seems that only the boundaries of the object are being calculated, and those calculations are only happening each frame. The pic below shows a semi-flattened sphere moving through the cloud. You can see that only the boundaries of the sphere are displacing the smoke, and calculations are only happening at each frame. I should also mention that I've never had this problem in X-Particles. Also, increasing sub-steps has no effect. What I seem to need in intra-frame calculations?
  3. Hi all Began experimenting with C4D Pyro and quickly ran into either a limitation, or a mistake by me. I'm simply trying to get a moving collision object to interact with some Pyro smoke. As you can see in the image I've included (below), the moving object (100x100 plane animating from screen right to left) is only interacting with the smoke at each frame. Sounds like a substep issue, right? Well, I've increased the substeps to no avail. Still just getting slices in my smoke, as you can see. Am I really going to have to adjust my FPS, render the whole thing out in super slo-mo, and then play back at 24 fps? I really hope not. Any suggestions? What am I missing? Thanks!
  4. Hey all. Still learning ExplosiaFX and have run into a bit of a speed bump. Here's the issue: I have 2 horizontal plumes of smoke being generated and I want them collide with each other, but I also need each plume to be a different color. Thus far I can't figure out how to make both of those things happen in the same scene. - Using a single ExplosiaFX node with 2 emitters works great for the collision. It's beautiful. Problem is, now I'm left with a single Explosia object for both plumes and thus cannot create separate VDBs and assign a different color to each one. - If I use a separate Explosia object for each plume then I can generate 2 VDBs and assign a different color to each, but the plumes no longer collide with each other. So there's my quandry. AARGH! Is there a way to have one Explosia object collide with another? or Is there possibly a way to create separate VDBs of a single ExplosiaFX object based on it's emitter? Just wondering if anyone out there might have any ideas for me. I've included a couple comparison pics so you can see the difference between the colliding plumes, and non-colliding. Thank You!
  5. I have a dynamic mesh that is being deformed by turbulence. I've set up the mesh to emit particles with Emission set to shot and Speed to 0, so the particles sit on the surface. I simply need those particles to stick to the surface as the mesh deforms. Is this even possible in X-Particles? EDIT: I just tried using the xpFollowSurface modifer with friction turned all the way up and it ALMOST works. Unfortunately the particles tend to shift around from frame to frame. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
  6. Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm trying to get trails to react to dynamics and just can't get it going. Thanks
  7. Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue and can't get it sussed. Thanks.
