Cinema 4D Can't get subdivision configuration window to pop up

I just made sure to click the object in the layer menu. Man this took me 3 hours to figure out. This is very frustrating haha.

Hello I am new to C4D and am taking a 3D animation class for school. There's a step where I have to select my whole object that is in a subdivision group. I try to create more poly subdivisions but the configuration window does not pop up when I click it. Is it because I have the subdivision selected and not the object inside the subdivision group?
