  1. Well, I asked for the new price of upgrading a permanent license and it cost 1800€+VAT

    2019 ---> Upgrading to the newer permanent license ----> 600€+VAT ( +Cineversity 1 year of subscription, + assets, +support service)

2020 ---> Upgrading to the newer permanent license ----> 1000€+VAT ( no civersity, no assets, support for 3 months)

2021 ---> Upgrading to the newer permanent license ----> 1800€+VAT ( no civersity, no assets, support for 3 months)

What a shameless company.  Mograph was just a magic trick to put your dirty hands in our pockets and steal our money.

    Let's move to Blender asap.

I am curious to know what features, from S22 upwards, would you really liked to have had? I would not call R21

    crappy at all.

I think I was not clear. I liked R21, I paid for it.

After that, Maxon make sure to make me impossible to upgrade my perpetual license again.

1/ removing Cineversity from the upgrading

    2/ increasing upgrading from 600€ to 1000€

3/not giving you SXX versions where they are released, and offering them only to subscription users

4/removing you from getting to download new assets they deliver every update, now for only subscription users

Not only that but new versions of C4D are just completely garbage (cost/new tools proportion) except for a few little improvements. For example all the UV upgrades are crap, when they have not even released UDIM worfklow in 2021. But you have cheap solutions (less than 100$) like Rizom Lab, that let you do tons of stuff regarding to UV process, with much more powerful, deep and fast tools.
Also I found pretty weird that they release utilities like Magic Bullet (useless) while they don't improve multi thread speed in tons of utility tools. For instance, create a VDB is like 10 times slower than if you create the same VDB in Houdini.

So I think I will not upgrade in 6 years (until I recover my 3500€ initial payment) meanwhile I will look on Houdini/Blender/Unreal to transition to better/cheaper/useful software.

And Did you guys hear that MAXON is going to make Redshift only subscription? The same bad move again to their own users.

Just one other observation.....for a thread on R25 expectations, we are spending an unusual amount of time talking about Blender.

In marketing, there is a concept called the "tipping point" - when one event creates a huge change in the market's perception of, interest in, and demand for a product.  The tipping point for Blender was R2.8.  The fact that this thread is talking just as much about Blender than a new release of C4D is further evidence of that chain reaction created by the release of R2.8.

And Blender has only improved since R2.8 with grease pencil, improved mesh editing and further viewport and render improvements with Cycles X and Eevee.

Can anyone else honestly tell me how Maxon can compete with Blender?  The market momentum is already on Blender's side and the posts from those professionals in the industry talking about how their pipelines/projects need to be Blender compatible show that as well.

C4D had some market momentum the year they released R20.  R20 was just an awesome release, C4D won a technical Oscar that year and Maxon purchased Redshift.    That all went into the crapper the next year when they introduced subscriptions - which, interestingly enough, was right after Blender released R2.8.

So that year, late in 2018, was a rather critical nexus point for both companies.  Blender's momentum started to increase while C4D's momentum started to decrease.

Honestly, lost momentum is a tough thing to get back in the market place and Maxon should really pay attention to what is going on in the market and proceed with extreme caution.  The focus now should be on how to hold on to customers rather than how to increase revenue.  Yes...they may need to take a loss for a few years if they hope to survive this inflection point towards Blender.

Redshift moving to subscription only was NOT a good move.  Should Maxon announce that R25 is now subscription only (no more perpetual), then it will only be a matter of time.

    Dave

I agree with you, maybe they bring subscriptions to compete with Blender, but at the same time they fucked up their perpetual license users increasing 2x the update cost that year.

in 2017 I paid 600€ for upgrading my c4d license. Next year they asked me to pay 1200€ or 600€ for a subscription.... Which makes you think, Who the fuck is going to pay 3500€ and next year say: Ok I will go with subscription. has no sense and it's a robbery  to perpetual users, the ones that support c4d every year.

After all this crap, I just realize I never going to update my c4d again, lose a lot of money... So I start looking into another software, and Blender which is free, has all the support from EPIC, with full compatibility with Unreal. Very powerful and FREE tools.

  4. In my opinion MAXON steal perpetual users a lot of money. Increasing the price of updating license, and removing access of Cineversity or assets from content  browser. Not only that, but Redshift is going to remove perpetual licenses too. With 3500€ I could have buy almost 6 years of subscription, but now, I don't have the money and I don't have the subscription either.... only a piece of paper that I own a crappy software R21 license.

I have nothing more than hate to Maxon right now, after wasting 3500€ in his shitty software, they deserve every company pirate their software. I really hope they bankrupt soon and C4d disappear from the earth. Welcome Unreal 5 and Blender.

So I am very happy now to nevermore pay to this corrupt company again.
