Dave announced yesterday a select few could soon be given access to the new beta of 'Touchstone', which I guess is a placeholder name.

No idea what it is, but it'd be funny if the long delayed Bodypaint rewrite turns out to be a brand new app, but it's only included in Maxon One, not C4D. Because the app he's teasing will probably be something new that they add to Maxon One.

    zbrush ipad beta?

  2. Actually they meant to add real sculpting features from Mudbox into Maya but the project was too complex with the DAG.   there is even old videos floating around about a tech proof of concept.   It was never even put in beta before they dropped it.. subsequently dropping Mudbox development too a couple years after that.

  3. judging by some of the tests from some blender youtubers, eevee next isn't that great.  You'll still need Cycles or Octane for things like sss, good reflections/shadows and more.   Regardless, I was able to pump out some QUICK animations w/EEVEE using a cheap addon/plugin for assets.. none of those words are available in C4D.  Still, eevee is a good option to test out on projects if you use blender at all.

  4. Maxon just like Autodesk (mudbox and sculpting beta inside Maya) conceded defeat of specific feature sets to outside devs like Substance Painter, Mari, Zbrush and 3D Coat who had better performance and a growing user base.    Blender is the only developer actively pushing sculpting and texture painting in its app and from what I've seen many pros people still prefer Zbrush and Painter.   The difference is, Blender isn't beholden to shareholders or worried about trying to turn a profit so it can keep developing toolsets that people may not even use, like their editor.

  5. April Fools is right around the corner.   Expect:   "Maxon merges with Adobe..." ,  "Insydium confuses themselves with their licensing so much they sell to Maxon", "Maxon releases C4D 2025, with new integrated particles, fluids and pyro 3.0"

    example from other apps ?

blender.   there's a few free geometry node tools that can add objects onto other objects via drawing.    maya can do the same thing I believe with some tools as well.   of course houdini.  probably max too.

Besides that, you could probably project/draw a curve onto your object then use that as a basis for a path which a cloner with primatives could use.

  7. Maxon gave me a free day to continue doing stuff in Blender.  I also got to spend time on Reddit and watch the carnage in the Cinema4D subreddit.    Cant' say I remember ever seeing a company the size of Maxon shut down for hours to update a licensing server.   So there's no redundancy, where a server was ready to go and switch over?   Scary.   Never had issues with Autodesk and Adobe which also rents their software with online licensing.

  8. Various techniques based on topology and what you're trying to achieve.   Start by optimizing to make sure points are welded as  best as possible.  You can use phong break  select to pick big flat areas, delete and fill back in to start with a clean slate rebuilding the geo as you go.   You can also select the offending edges, dissolve and rebuild.   You need to be careful with that so you don't delete supporting edges.     In the example below I also used an inset to preserve the edges before rebuilding.  It may or may not be necessary depending on the model itself.   I then rebuilt with a Close Polygon Hole and then Poly pen tool.   you could also use the bridge tool or polygon pen to build back in the polygons individually.   definitely save as you go and make dupes of the meshes.    In some cases I've had to completely recreate the mesh because what was imported was trash.  It typically happens with CAD.
