  1. Thank you Happy Polygon - much appreciated! I will experiment a bit more with the Simulation Substeps, never heard of that one or just forgot about it… I will post an update hopefully before the forum goes. Not sure i will use an afro on my character I just wanted to play with the hair.
  2. Well seeing as the forum will be going in just over two weeks I thought I would post once more! I am working on some of the scenes and characters from my old 'Bella Bear' project and I was recreating the cake shop. So I dropped Minkey Boy in doing a breakdance with some nice blue hair as a test. Now if you watch the flick you will see that the hair intersects the face of the character even though I created a collider on the face geometry. I don't understand why this doesn't work? 3. This is horrid news, I have loved being part of this forum for so many years... I know that this might sound like a daft question but why don't Maxon buy the site since it would be in their interest? Mind you you have competing software here… So maybe not…
  4. Well after a little experimentation I clicked on the View>Frame Default and it went back to normal… One of those little glitches I think? @ Hrvoje It was nothing to do with reverse orbit in the preferences since that was switched off, but thanks for the suggestion.
  5. Just updated that flick since it was the wrong one. Can someone in admin remove the old version, I cannot seem to do it?
  6. This is weird. I am working on some product shots and have noticed that when I am navigating the scene with Camera Mode set to 'Object' when I move the camera left and right the model moves in the correct direction but when I move it up and down it works in the opposite direction. If I cut and paste the model into a new scene it works as it should. I am wondering if I have accidentally hit some keyboard shortcut to activate this or is it is a quirk in C4D - it's nothing to do with reverse orbit in the preferences. If I cut and paste my whole scene into a new file the navigation works as normal. I am using C4D 2024.5.1 and am thinking it is time to update to the newer version BTW should I be careful???
  7. Well I have been working away hard at this and this is where I have got to - I think it's an improvement and getting there 🙂 Peg's Mansion Flythrough HD v01.mp4
  8. Thanks Hrvoje! I cannot believe that I did all this stuff nearly 20 years ago… I sometimes wonder if I should be re-vamping it considering there is so much kids orientated CGI out there, but I am finding it quite rewarding making it look much more up to date. I might even dabble with AI on it - or is that a dirty word? Still trying to figure out how to add a dirt map to the roof…
  9. Since I am reworking my old project from so many years ago… I thought I would show peeps here the rework on the tower roof of peg's mansion so that you can compare the old one with the new one - I like to think it is an improvement… Whilst I am at it perhaps someone might tell me how I might add a dirt map to the tiles collectively since each of the roof tiles is an individual tile but cloned which took quite a while to create but looks so much better.
  10. Working on one of the scenes from my story and updating it from the old version. I think it is an improvement but I am wondering if it looks a little bit to creepy/sinister? Love to know what others think… Broom Room HB v01.mp4
  11. Why is it when you put a collider tag on your scalp hair still seems to smash through it? This is another of my old characters that I am testing out so ignore the hand going through the floor, just trying out hair in C4D 🙂 Minkey Boy Breakdance HB v03.mp4
  12. now for the whole gang doing a dance routine! Still don't know why the fur on Bella (second right) has that weird shadow on it… Anyone? Chicken Dance HB v01.mp4
  13. Couple of animation tests on two of my characters using hair. Problem I seem to have on Witchy Peg is that even though I have added a collider to the head and hat, the hair still goes through them. Same with Hannah Bannah the hair goes through her face… Not sure why? Hannah Leap Test v01.mp4 Peg Gangnam HB v01.mp4
  14. The last character with a facelift!
  15. Quick paint job on the face. What annoys me is that BodyPaint doesn't seem to work with redshift materials. I always have to create a classic material in order to load an image and then paint. I am not sure if newer versions of C4D/RS make a difference but it is a tad annoying. Anyway I am hoping that the new look Peg is a little more appealing 🙂
  16. Started on the hairdo and a few other refinements. I think I need to work on the eyes since she looks a bit startled…
  17. Back to revamping some old characters again. Just started on this one and need to tweak the modelling and then add some real hair - blast from the past!
  18. Sorry typo! I meant GLB since it was a web-based game. Normally for UE and Unity I have used FBX. I might have a go at seeing what I can do with your dragon in PLA using motion clips 🙂
  19. Well I am not too familiar with game engines other than Unity and Unreal which I have only dabbled with. Indeed I have recently animated/modelled some game characters but they needed to be exported as GLB files to work. I always thought the the norm was to rig characters using joint/bones and create walk/run/jump/punch etc sequences and then import them into the game engine. Which is what I did using the motion sequence features in C4D and the take system.
  20. I would recommend that you have a look at some of the motion system tutorials on Cineversity to get you head around NLA (non-linear animation). Basically you can create clips of animation and move them around in the timeline and blend them together and then export them as animations. Not sure if you can export as PLA (vertex) animation but I am sure there is a file format that supports this…
  21. Thank you very much for your help Mash! My pockets are reasonable, I am quite nerdy and I don't need probably more than 4TB so I think I might go with one of the Synergy options. BUT! Whilst I am am enjoying the much faster real-time playback speeds on my Mac for animation (don't mention Redshift GPU speeds) I have noticed something which I though was to do with network speeds. I thought that when I was working on my Mac from my PC that the lag in loading the texture maps was due to my network, but then I opened a couple of Mac only projects and experienced the same lag in loading the texture files. So now I am wondering if the problem I am getting is nothing to do with files being on my PC but something to do with my Mac? Is this a Metal thing? Should I update my OS from 13 to 14 or 15? I have found that every time I quite C4D on my Mac that I get an error saying that C4D has unexpectedly quit. The peeps at Maxon told me that it looks like graphics drivers and said upgrade to the latest Mac OS. I always get twitchy about the latest and greatest especially whilst in the middle of a BIG project.
  22. I am currently working on a large project and and using both my Mac and PC to create files and render them. Now what is driving me mad is files being on my PC can be rather slow to load on my Mac. So I thought get a NAS drive and put all your files on there in one place and the networking would be straight forwards. Now I have used NAS drives in the past and they do seem to be SLOW… So I was looking at a NAS with an SSD drive. So my question is does anyone here use a NAS drive to do their work and do you still find then slow? I can imagine they are fine for M$ Office stuff or DTP but 3D and video might be more taxing...
  23. When you say parallel installation do you mean as in having both 2024 and 2025 installed? I currently have R17, R19, R24, R25, R26, R2023 and R2024 installed. I keep the real old versions since I get sent a lot old C4D files LOL!
  24. I am in the middel of big project and am using C4D 2024.5.1 and I am experiencing some quirkyness with my old friend xRefs... Basically I am finding when xrefing characters constrints sometime play silly. But the latest is when I render through Team Render onto my Mac only (only one machine being used so no need to make the xRefs editable) I am finding that the render works fine but the xRef dissappears in the scene. I have been told by one of the Maxon programmers that there are lots of xRef fixes in 2025 but I am nervous about jumping into a new version of the software half way through a big project. So I thought I would ask if anyone has had problems with 2025 especially when using xRefs or anything else for that matter. I suppose if things go wrong with the new version I can just jump back to the older version again. I think I should be fine, but thought I would ask first...
  25. Oh wot a doughnut! I should have realised it was the shadows that was causing the problem! Cos I ain't done any Redshift stuff for a while innit 🙂 Thanks very much Jeff for pointing out such an obvious overlook on my side - mucho appreciated 😉
