Ah OK. Yes, make your sweep along a straight spline, then spline wrap the whole sweep along the helix spline that is wrapping the winch barrel. Here's a scene file which might be better than my explanations :) Winch.c4d CBR

Never make cabling out of lofts - that is a singularly unhelpful method for anything rope-like ! You definitely want a Sweep for that. I don't think there's anything happening twice in that setup - I reckon we need every stage of it for it to work, but if you can prove me wrong I am happy to be corrected :) CBR

    Winch

If you just want it shortening then it could be as simple as a zeroed-out parametric helix spline in a sweep, where you just keyframe the length of the spline ! But I suspect we can do better... If I had to guess at making it wind onto the barrel, I think I'd make a helix that wrapped round the barrel, editable that, massively extend one end of it to give me the line coming off it, make my cable completely separately, then spline wrap it onto that first spline, using the spline-wrap's offset parameter to move it down the line, and the 'keep original length' option so it actually moves onto the barrel... If you're after wire rope for this, then I recommend the old 'epicycloid in a sweep' trick to make that... CBR
  4. Please take care to post in the right section. In this case that is 'Plugins', as Realflow does not come with C4D. I have moved this one for you. CBR

    Bedroom scene

I like the overall feel of and light in the scene - lovely job there - really pleasing diffuse shadows... I think I'd move the camera focus to the front of the sofa - it's a great texture that deserves to be sharp somewhere :) And maybe too much DoF overall ? Also with JM about the plant - could it be little more variegated / glossy ? And less green. Those things are always darker than you think when there's no light behind them. CBR
  6. Cough 'Volume Builder', cough 'Nodal Materials', cough 'Fields' ? ;) I'd say they were doin' OK ! CBR
  7. Aww Nige :) We miss you over there on the dark side ! CBR
  8. I think that might be a remnant of the original cafe group names - I can see what @3DKiwi was probably trying to go for there, but agree it feels a little odd if for no other reason than that you don't see it on any other forums :) Just out of interest, what would you call that group ? CBR
  9. Have you searched the site ? I posted this question about 2 weeks ago, and got a reply with the answer from Hrvoje. Just about to run out the door, hence why I don't have time to find it for you... CBR

    A Wrench

That helps a bit I think... wondering now what would happen if you dialled down saturation on the floor diffuse map a little - still looks a little intensely yellow to me... But this is only nitpicking - there's a lot working well in this scene :) CBR

    A Wrench

That's a very nice wrench you got yourself there :) I might be tempted to add some Depth of Field to soften up the floor a bit... CBR
  12. I'm very interested in this too, but like Ben says, you can't get messages so far. I think that's a new member thing, so will fix itself in time. CBR
  13. It's amazing how many people don't know never to click a link in a text or an email from a bank / credit card, or someone they don't know. But I suspect the cafe readership is mainly among those that do - I'd guess we here are among the more technically minded and technologically aware. But I got a very similar thing last year - forgot to pay one bill, got added to some list somewhere, and I've had 3 texts a day from disreputable payday loan companies ever since ! If you reply to any of them you just confirm you are receiving them, so looks like I'm stuck with it :/ CBR
  14. I'd like to see Cinema picking up the slack left by natural world simulator applications like Vue and Terragen. Primarily this could involve: 1. A much improved landscape object that features higher resolution, camera-based geometry resolution fall-off, and natural effects like erosion, weathering, and the ability to draw landscapes as well to use any / layered noise types, including some new ones specifically for the task. 2. A Tree Creator 3. A much need revamp of the physical sky and atmospheric settings. 4. An ocean surface generator that has similar camera-based geo res falloff, and can deal with truly massive bodies of water and interaction with things in it. CBR
  15. A proper Shell Command, complete with inner and outer distances and control loop options. There are plugins that do this (although not currently that work in R20 !) but it should be part of any serious modelling toolkit. CBR
  16. No, backface culling is a display setting that allows you to show or hide the reverse sides of polygons, which is most usefully activated when trying to edit just the camera-visible polygons, edges or points in the orthographic views in wireframe mode. AFAIK this doesn't have anything to do with render optimization. Have I got that wrong ?! :) CBR
  17. I've noticed we can't just import R19 layouts into R20 without problems, so I've been making a brand new one for the version. Early on my list of changes is to bin the deformers palette, and replace it with one where they are all in alphabetic order, making finding the right one a lot faster... To save you the hassle of making your own, thought I'd share the l4d palette file. To use it... 1. Place attached .l4d file file to xxxx/appData/roaming/MAXON/R20xxx/library/layouts 2. Window menu / customize commands / tick Edit Palettes. 3. From the Window menu, choose Load Palette, and navigate to the folder above to load it, which will make it appear in the general layout ready for placement. 4. R-click in the palette, pick your options from the list that calls, then finally choose Fold Palette. 5. Drag the icon where you want it in one of the toolbars... 6. Once placed, ctrl-double click the original deformers icon to remove it. 7. Save your layout, then save as startup layout. Deformers alphabetical palette.l4d CBR

    Porsche 918

That's less dense topology than I was expecting. Good job (apart from that rogue triangle at the back ;) CBR
  19. Awesome. Thanks Hrvoje :) CBR
  20. Now I'm using R20 more I am noticing more things I used to have but don't have now :) Can anyone help me out for how we'd write a python script that hides the Grid and Horizon, that I can map to a shortcut ? I know a big fat nothing about Python, so pls keep it fairly simple ;) Cheers CBR
