  1. Well with that GPU you're not going to be happy for long and run out of VRAM really fast. Redshift, just as Octane, benefits from high-end GPU's and the 680 is not even midrange anymore.
  2. It depends. You can't rename premade folders that come with C4D, such as Visualize, Studio, Prime, etc. I'm not sure if you can rename third party libraries not made by you or MAXON, but you CAN rename your own libraries: just rightclick and untick "Read Only". After that you can rename, change the contents (such as adding or deleting stuff). Don't forget to retick "Read Only" afterwards to protect the folder from accidental changes. Depending on the size of the folder this process could take a couple of minutes. DO NOT close Cinema while it appears to be "frozen"! If you do while it's locking the folder you can potentially corrupt it!
  3. I'd argue theres not even much original rendering left, it looks sooo fake
  4. Cappucino still exists and does exactly what you're lookging for.
  5. The proximal shader could also be a possibility if you don't have access to fields. In this case it basically does the same but it's probably slower.
  6. I've stopped using them. As you said, there's just problems every single time. Great on paper, but way too buggy.
  7. Don't get too hyped guys, there's no word on if it's shipping with C4D at some point. It's still a seperate purchase.
  8. I don't think the refraction pass does the trick here. If I understand correctly he wants to distort the pictures on the cards behind the glass in front. For that he would need a per pixel vector value of the areas that have refraction. The refraction pass only shows what has been refracted in the render. If the pictures are not there during render, the pass won't help with anything. Now, I'm not too familiar with After Effects but it might be possible to distort the cards in post with a normalmap, as that texture saves 3D coordinates in the RGB channels. You could theoretically convert your displacementmaps to normalmaps and use those in post to distort the final textures. I doubt it'll look as good as real distortion though, so I'd only use that in the worst case scenario if it's possible at all.
  9. I don't know if it'll do aynthing, but it might be worth trying different file formats.
  10. Yeah I haven't had much exposre to DIJ Hardware and Software but what I saw made me question why they are as prominent on the market as they are. Software didn't work on some Phones (why do I even need a phone for the software with a ~1000€ product?), the drone didn't feel like doing certain things multiple times, it crashed into a wall in "safe" mode. I have a feeling it's all marketing. Reminds me of a certain other company that builds phones, desktops and laptops ...
  11. That's interesting. Collegue of mine has the Spark and that thing just straight up flew full speed head first into the side of a giant warehouse. It wasn't even in freeflight, that thing should have stopped. It didn't. We thought we screwed something up. Guess we didn't.
  12. Yeah I think this is exactly what's happening here. The model is moving "through" the static 3D-Gradient. Could be in Worldspace as well.
  13. I think I don't exactly understand what you want to do. Do you want to export the model from Blender to C4D? In that case, exporting materials isn't going to get you very far. Normally when switching applications you have to redo the materials, sometimes you even need new textures but most of the time you can just reuse the ones you have.
  14. Wait, 2018 is over? Not this again...
  15. We'll there's certainly some things that are annoying as hell in the daily life, especially if the people around you are not into 3D. I can't watch ANY movie without overanalyzing the CG. I constantly look for sh*** / misaligned materials, unconvincing lighting / shading and visible polygons in objects. Also compositing. Finding the exact spot the greenscreen begins and ends. It really is a curse because it ruined a lot of movies for me where my friends thought it looked, quote, "photorealistic". As soon as I see any interesting material while going out or shopping or something I instantly try to build that material in my head. Same for complex / interesting shapes. People around me have told me that I tend to... stare at surfaces from time to time. Guess we're all weird in our own way
  16. Gave it a try as well. I've reduced the collision tolerance to 0.01cm, increased the steps per frame and maximum solver iterations per frame. The spheres now have "Ellipsoid" as collision, which is way, way faster than per poly collision (which is the Static or Dynamic Mesh setting). Now that I've seen the document I take back what I said about Cerberas method; it's totally justified here. Nothing wrong with it. If you want to play with the settings of the simulated objects you have to clear the caches first. I just added them for convenience. Hope this still helps :) Perputuum Mobile.zip
  17. He does Animation for PBS Space Time? Wow, that's nice! I'm kind of jealous...
  18. Shouldn't increasing "Steps per Frame" and "Maximum Solver Iterations per Step" do basically the same? I mean, I'm sure your solution with collision boxes works as well but personally I'm not the biggest fan of those kind of "dirty" workaroundss if the solver can just simulate it correctly...

Nice Work! Maybe this blueish-atmosphere-thingie is just a simple frontal projected gradiant that fades to black? Or maybe with Alpha? That should work...
  20. No offense, but isn't "Mac User" and "on a budget" in the same sentence a bit... contradictory?
