  2. Hey people, I am fairly new to C4D and finished some basic tutorials. But I want to do sth very specific in C4D, maybe you can tell me how or IF its possible. So I would like to use HDRI's as background to place 2d pictures of objects as a reference, so I can export the background in the right perspective to use it in Photoshop for more compositing. Is that even possible and if how would you do it? Thanks a lot

  4. Can you give me some of these, but formatted for someone that hasn't done MUCH in Houdini? I've dabbled in it for a bunch of weeks a couple of years ago and I ultimately concluded that the tool is just not for the kind of artwork I want to do and also not for what I do as a job. I just hate waiting for simulations, even particle sims. But I felt like most of the issues weren't really a design issue but more of a "that's just how Houdini works" thing. Not in a negative sense. The only thing I found baffling was their naming conventions for some of the nodes and the way viewport settings / controls / modes are handled, which is stupid confusing as a beginner. Oh and the UI looks antiquated, that could use a light refresh. Gradients in 2025 is kinda... eh. EDIT: I just noticed that my avatar is something I made in Houdini and one of my favorite artworks I've ever done. Oh the irony.

  6. As a Houdini subscriber not working with a team of 50 artists, this video really means or tells me nothing, which is fair I guess because the program is made for teams and not low paying customers like me. All the same, there are so many basic fundament workflow issues that need to be addressed, it's concerning.
  7. super impressive and cool set of updates... congrats sidefx team and houdini users 👏
  8. @dasfrodo Dominik Ruckli has released in Gumroad for free a ScenerNodes tool that does exactly that a few weeks ago

  10. I'd be happy if they dumped just one of those Olympic quality upgrades for 6 months later and did a UI refresh of the entire app.
  11. C4D's Jiggle Deformer can't match the CA Stretch Deformer I found a good old video demonstrating it
  12. User error / poor UI. When you select front, top, left, perspective etc from the Cameras menu in the viewport, these are actually camera presets which will always use the same values every time they're selected. Effectively resetting your camera back to 36mm every time. IF you want to maintain all your existing settings, don't use these presets, instead select your camera and use the first dropdown menu to select the camera type you want; this will then remember all the other settings you had dialled in. Or even better, dont switch the camera type at all, make use of the 4 views to set up views, then use F1 - F4 to switch between these preset views.
  13. Sounds like a bug - please report it. In the meantime, create a camera with the FOV / focal length you want.
  14. @mahmoud morsy In the video vex code is shown. This can be translated into nodes as well. I would still suggest you explore jiggle defomer and possibly displacer prior to that
  15. Hi everyone, is there a way to maintain or lock the perspective camera focal length after switching to other orthogonal views like top, front, etc? I mostly work with high lens numbers but whenever I switch back from orthogonal views to perspective view it resets back to its default 35mm FOV..
  16. This guy makes a very compelling argument against the "just a tool" theory.
  17. @Hrvoje Hey It's similar to this effect in Houdini
  18. AI is just a tool, look at it as such. Fears of it replacing people is a bit misplaced, it will rather open up completely new technologies and markets driving up the need for people.

  20. If you're still making money using C4D then its viable. If you are just focusing on Mixamo and modeling, I hate to say it but Blender may be a better tool. Besides it having a better modeling toolset especially paired with specific addons, you can get cheap (or free) mocap data for Blender in addition to what Mixamo offers. No one knows when AI will really start to take away jobs, as its still being dabbled in (like NFTs). It's getting good at replacing b-roll video stock footage. For other things it just isn't there yet and it may never be as good as a human artist. I've seen people recommending getting into Houdini as SideFX have embraced Machine Learning quicker than the competitors. Houdini 21 should be interesting.
  21. Looks pretty slick. AI agent, advanced brush for vegetation, AI PBR materials, IES control, etc.
  22. Here is Brick wall generator. More than enough to get one going and expand 🙂 Some controls are available This setup will be built in next yt video by Rob Brick_Core.c4d

    Bird Animator?

I'm looking for an artist to rig and animate some realistic-looking flapping loops. Thanks! DM me with relevant work samples and your rate. : )
  24. Thanks for the reply, that's right however I was looking for an easier more automatic solution.
  25. I've been using Cinema 4D off and on for years. Recently I've let my subscription lapse and I'm considering signing up again. But with the advent and explosion of AI I'm beginning to wonder about whether Cinema 4D is still a viable tool or not. My uses of Cinema 4D have largely been focused on using Mixamo figures and some modeling. Please let me know your opinion of the viability of Cinema 4D today with the advent of AI. Thank you!
  26. 1. Change from icon to list view 2. Click on the Fold button next to home Should get you something like
  27. How do I customize Asset Manager to scaled down node editor? ..FROM THIS -------------- TO THIS............. ...TO THIS???>>....
  28. No reason you couldn't make this work with a material blender and a combination of state, ramp and curvature nodes. You'd have to do it on a per-object basis (so not as slick as the one in Unreal) but it is doable.
