  1. RS Triplanar node is perfect for this scenario and even let's you blur seams
  2. I set up a message area on the Redshift forums on this topic and there is another on performance comparisons. I have a Mac mini 16 Gb with native C4D and native RS and I am in lust with the combo. Very responsive and quick. Hasn't crashed once and I was not used to that on my iMac with constant crashes.
  3. @IcecavemanI just installed the M1 native Bender 2.93 beta and it is incredibly fast! I'm excited because I have a ton of Blender files and really enjoy it though still very much a newbie.
  4. That RISC chip is going to work with a lot of stuff. As I recall you use Bender occasionally and the new chips work with it. I can't remember if it is native yet? I haven't used Octane but I sure like Redshift and Cycles dn both are great with RISC. WWDC sounds like it will be exciting for both of us. BTW, I have been reading your notes and learning from you for many years. Same with Bezo, PBarrelas, HSRDelic, and others. Thanks for prior pearls of wisdom.
  5. @IcecavemanI am in computer Nirvana with the M1 chip and C4D and RS both native now. I used to have probably 12 C4D crashes every day and it was driving me nuts. C4D S24 native is rock solid and yet to crash. What a relief. All the Adobe Creative Suite runs perfectly (somehow) without using Rosetta and PS is the only one M1 native. Native apps are incredibly fast. RS native is a joy and now I like it as much as Cycles 4D. This machine is my way of temporizing till the M2 arrives with supposedly 32 cores. They may announce the M1x at WWDC but who knows and this has 16 cores. My rational was that the M1 is SO inexpensive why not dive into RISC chips right now and I am so glad I did. I love this machine. I have 16 Gb RAM and it only cost me $899. You should see these native apps slam onto the screen including Photoshop. I also use Blender and I hear it will be M1 native and runs great now with Rosetta. You have a good game plan set up and are smart to wait for next generation chips. I'd wildly guess you too will twitch all over when you start playing with it and seeing what it will do. With the number of cores which are soon upcoming in the next year you might be surprised who turns out to be the faster renderer, x86 vs RISC. I'd love to hear about your next machine when you get it!
  6. @3D-PangelI go nuts over XP and Cycles and it will really bother me to do without till the next update but I'm using only M1 native apps and it is so fast and rock solid. Even all the Adobe Creative Suite run perfectly and fly on my new M1 machine even though Photoshop is the only one native M1 so far. I have even been helping out on questions over at the Discord site. Nathan Page at Insydium has been doing backflips to try and get my XP working but it requires I use Rosetta when I run C4D S24 and I am not willing to do that because of the drop in performance. It is absolutely amazing in native M1 format. So I will just need to be patient and have my fun with XP again a little later. I am very excited to see how XP and Cycles will perform in native M1 format.
  7. Here are some initial speed results: C4D loads in 2 seconds, the attached file using Redshift renders in 2:22, the Grapes file from the content browser renders to the Picture Viewer using the built-in Physical Renderer in 4:34 and it took 9:20 on my iMac with i7 Intel Quad 4.0 GHz chip, and now I need some other file or benchmark to test. This is fun.RailMaterial_Finish.c4d
  8. Maxon really has it together. This am they came out with Redshift 3.045 which allows me to do both C4D and Redshift in native M1 without Rosetta and no Security nightmares on startup. I can't wait to do speed tests. Why can't Insydium do as well? It is extremely frustrating because I am hooked on XP and Cycles and currently I can use neither.
  9. They better do something quick. I can't even install it on my new M1 Mac. I am just going to not use XP or Cycles till they come out with software to fix this like Redshift did.
  10. @BashiBazoukGood ones! As to ease in, you need to be smarter than I to answer that.
  11. @Deck I too avoid math every chance I get. I still have calculus PTSD. This stuff though isn't too bad and it's all out of that Appendix Formula reference.
  12. Absolutely, you can really stack the Effectors but here the order is really important. Formula Effector Range 3.c4d
  13. This is a perfect example of why I love the Formula Effector and use it every chance I get: Formula Effector Time Offset 1.c4d

Igor, Yes I do wish their machines allowed for more self upgrade but supposedly they solder so much stuff for speed reasons. Like the built-in memory on the M1 is non-upgradeable. Boo. The other side of it is that nothing ever seems to break, only software problems. I have called tech support 3 times lately and I am way past expiration on my AppleCare and they were SO nice and helpful (for free).
  15. As I said elsewhere I can't wait to see how many GPUs they will cram on a RISC chip by 2022! I sure am happy with both Cycles and Redshift. I am getting more impressed with Redshift every day as I study it. I think the serious, massive machines probably won't be here till late this year but M1X with 16 GPUs probably by WWDC? This is sure fun to watch!

You should read some of the reviews on the M1 chip. Intel has been asleep at the wheel while all this happened. RISC is the future of chips. Even servers with RISC will save massive amounts of energy.

I can't wait to see how many GPUs they will cram on there by 2022! And I wish the 28th would get here sooner so I could set up my new machine and my new C4D S24 with Redshift, XP, Cycles, and Red Giant. AND then I just can't wait to see how long it will take me to render that Grapes file in the Content Browser! It would be interesting if others would list their render time for that Grapes file and list their hardware. On my late 2015 iMac i7 Quad 4.0 GHz, 32 Gb RAM, and AMD Radeon R9 M390 2048 MB it takes 9 minutes and 20 seconds.

You will notice I did not get that too. To prove how frugal I am, look at some of the speed comparisons between my $899 new computer and $9-15K machines. I know a bargain when I see one!

The new iMac M1 should be amazing. I just ordered a Mac Mini M1 16 Gb RAM and it comes on the 26th. I will use my current 5K 27 inch iMac monitor with it. I can't wait to start playing! C4D, RS, Cycles, XP, and PS are all native M1 (now among others). I'd bet they sell gobs of the iPad Pro with M1. It is only $1099
  20. I just got S24 so all my files are R19. Would they be too far back? How about X-Particles files? I have gobs of them too. Also lots of Cycles 4D files. Cycles and XP are the latest releases.
  21. Wow, good one! Thank you. So beautiful. I have a folder of about 100 Formula Spline examples. A lot of them came from that site but I have collected them from all over. You might like a Python one if you are still doing that: Knot Effector.c4d
  22. Very clever with Xpresso! BTW, I have an amazing collection of files and the folder has your name on it.
  23. Jed, Thank you! I'd bet you already have these cool ones? Formula Spline Object 18.c4d Formula Spline Object 4.c4d Formula Spline Object 32.c4d Formula Spline Object 38.c4d
