  1. Busy week of client work ahead so, probably won't be much progress for the next few days. had some time to make the arms today and knock up a quick crow bar
  2. No model or blue prints to go from just eyeballing it , playing with the proportions as i go, been doing this so long now i can get them pretty close these days by eye, for the more detailed bits, i'll block the basic shape out first until i'm happy with the proportions then add the details after. I've got some reference images im using as a guide, but there aren't , or atleast i couldn't find any high res images of him in the mk 4 suit from the first game and any images of the game model are as you'd expect from a game that came out 20 years ago nearly, quite poor, there are images from the blackmesa remake but the suit is quite different and i wanted to keep it as close to the original as possible. i did manage to find some images for a female version of the suit, that someone posted on mod db from a few years back, that and some game art are the main images im working from. This is sort of a blend of the two along with some of my styling. pretty fun project, i've moved away from the more detailed models recently the last few years, apart from work related stuff. mainly down to the amount of time they take, so this is a nice change of pace to get back to a little bit of that.
  3. Torso complete, interesting mix of organic and hard surface modelling on this one
  4. Been playing through blackmesa recently and it brought back a bunch of nostalgia, so just had to make Freeman from half life 1, Haven't seen anyone doing fan art in his original suit so here we go, here's the progress so far, still playing with the size and proportions of stuff.
  5. i use pixel plow and it's pretty reasonable. the deedee turntable i rendered out cost me about 12 pounds on the lowest priority setting, due to the sss materials and 4k resolution it was taking 10 minutes per frame with my 1070, farm had it done in under a few hours, times will depend on the gpu load though, if the load is low and you aren't in a hurry you can leave it on the cheapest options and have it done in a few hours. higher gpu load on the farm and you'll wait longer/have to pay more to get it in the same time but relatively speaking it's one of the more reasonably priced render farms.

Giving Bart the 3d treatment. There's a different version of this that was commissioned for an upcoming release, i can't share that one yet so decided to modify it into the regular bart model 😄
  9. Good to hear ! If it’s any consolation England got spanked by the frogs in the World Cup, not a massive football fan but as an Englishman that cut deep 😅 glad all is good your end !
  10. Hmm well I’d argue that having to carry around an egpu enclosure and a graphics card as well as a mac book isn’t really an ideal situation when it comes to being portable. Also as you said already the newer macs don’t support egpus so you’d need to purchase an older mac book pro with an intel processor (2016 onwards) with thunderbolt 3 ports plus buy the enclosure and the card. Not saying it can’t be done but it’s just making it unnecessarily problematic/expensive when you could pick up a fairly decent windows laptop for 1000+ and be ready to go. I know people gripe about windows machines and apple os being more streamlined, faster etc but from a hardware perspective at least you have far more options with windows/intel/amd based machines. Apple doesn’t like to play with others.
  11. Good to see you around Dave, hope all is well
  12. i don't use apple or amd hardware but using a egpu, especially for any high end cards is a waste of money imo, not only are you paying a premium for the card in the first place, the one you mentioned especially you're going to be throttled by the egpu and won't get anywhere near the performance to warrant spending the money on the card to begin with. ( i'd also argue that if you have that kind of budget available you'd be better of with a 3080 instead) also i believe redshift support for amd is relatively new this year which maybe why you aren't seeing an abundance of benchmarks for it.
  13. I hear Alienware/Razor are rumored to have some 18 inch machines being released next year with what i image would be a 4090/4090 ti set up and i'll only cost you 4.5k 😄
  14. They might need to be thinner
  15. made them a bit wider they do indeed look a lot better, yea i kinda like the hand with the hard edges. modelling is essentially complete now just testing the materials and lighting
  16. Finally had some more time to work on this after a busy few weeks with client work 😄 can2.mp4
  17. I think it would be a shame if the forum disappears. There’s not really any alternative anywhere else on the web. The sub Reddit for c4d for example is dead as a door nail I don’t see c4d zone doing much either. it really does surprise me that Maxon don’t see the value of having a dedicated forum for their software, that answers many of their users query’s a service they don’t offer them selves and don’t look like they plan on doing anytime soon. I get Igors frustration and stand point, the amount of work that’s gone into keeping the forum alive and kicking whilst simultaneously having support pulled, would leave anyone with a bad taste in their mouth. There’s only so long you can keep doing something before you think F - it. I agree having the forum as ready only until you subscribe would be beneficial, at least that way people can see what they’re getting and can make an informed decision about joining.
  18. Whats up guys, so as the title suggests, one of my followers on Instagram by the name of Enox, is an awesome illustrator from NewZealand link below. Said i'd take one of his cool characters/stickers and turn it into 3D, So here's the progress so far original 2d illustration included https://www.instagram.com/enoxart/
  19. Was browsing the modelling sub reddit, and noticed a post about someone having issues with using booleans to cut notches out for a watch bezel in blender, something i seem to be seeing quite a lot of recently (booleans not bezels) anyway after obviously advising him to model it properly/ increase the geometry , I knocked up a quick example in a couple of minutes of one simple , and relativity clean way of doing it. Thought it may help someone out if they ever come to doing something similar. nothing revolutionary here just quick, clean and easy, i worked out roughly how many segments i need using a disk, split off and modelled one section as seen in the images. To get the little notches i beveled the points with no subdivisions to get a diamond and added some additional cuts and loops before putting it in an array to finish off. nice clean, quad based result with out the use of booleans and/or clean up time etc
