  1. yes, good looking parametric clouds. that is soooooo usefull and I waited for it so long. A feature that really triggers me to try out corona again 🙂
  2. Sad to hear. I wish the best future to everyone involved. It is always a verry sad thing if something ends, but it also gives room for new posibilities.

Yes. It was the old version of Team render. First it was a extra product and later integrated into Studio. It had no distributed rendering, and no zip download, but it was rock solid and hassle free. It just did what it was supposed to do, super predicable. In this respect Team render never even came close to it. Around 2000 I hooked up a renderfarm with around 20 Machines or so for my diploma short movie. Mixed Mac and PC. I would not dare to use 20 machines with Team render today (not that I didn't try 🙂 as long as it was alowed). It was really a charm to work with NET. Many years later People started to complain, that they would love to have some modern features in it, like email notification, grouping or priorities for the renderclients. That was the Motivation for Maxon to develop Team render. Distributed rendering was a great and fairly new concept back then. I really loved it, but no grouping, no email notification. And in the beginning it was extremy bugy. something that users where not used from maxon. There where heated discussions that ended in maxon forbidding a renderfarm to use its software (if I recall correctly they also changed the licensing back then). Since then we have instable Team render which never got the features people really asked for. I am sorry to sound so negative, but team render (besides the great DR feature) really never was one of maxons highlights imho.

It really is so hard to give them away! Even though they have no value anymore. It is crazy that using a software for such a long time develops a relationship. Like maybe a special hammer for a blacksmith. The only difference is, that a hammer ist basiacally for eternaty and the software never was yours in the first place.

Yes, they might be in the drawer.I also still have the small folding display with the shortcuts. I really liked them a lot 🙂

I'm moving my office. Look what I found. Old hardware and software. Memories that are now going away to make room for new things 😉
  7. Quite a long post to explain why caling someone a shithead or brain fart is less bad then calling someone a shill. Just for your information, as you might not be a maxon customer for so long. Some years ago It was absolutely possible to get a solution to a small problem like this. you just called maxon and when they realized that they do not loose anything to give you 8 month access for the 12 month bill it wouldn't have been a problem. It was quite normal to negotiate (that is my personal experience).
  8. Interesting, that service partners also sell subscriptions. thanks for that information. And for the help - we obviously have different ideas of what help means.
  9. I thought subsciption is excusively sold on the maxon website? has this changed? Its great that maxon people are around here, but how exactly did it help hifly?
  10. Two or three years ago the forum was full of maxon representatives, that proclamed to get in contact with maxon or a sales partner to find a solution for problems like this. They got rid of their sales partners and they got rid of this policy. Maxon is not customer centric any more. Thats just how it is. They are not interested in the singel customer as long as the numers are right. they are cultivating their market power define rules and make no exeptions, they take away any power customers had. You and conversations like this are the last litte inconveniences they have in their conversion. Maxon really feels like Adobe now and that is something that is inteded.
  11. well said. Maxon is not dependent of the goodwill of their customers anymore. Because Users are so dependent now because of subcription, that they can not do anything meaningfull anyway like for example skipping a version or two because they would loose the base of their own income for that time. Its just such a great system... ... for the company.
  12. Hey HIFLY, you already said, that you would pay for 12 month to get the 8 month. Maxon knows this and would have nothing to loose but obviously they are not willing to make a exception or change their "rules" for the better. Obviously they just don't care.
  13. Maybe we can finde the right path again. This discussion is not about subscription vs. perpetual but about what benefits the users have from being denied the choice between subscription and perpetual. And I really would like to hear arguments against choice and then I would like to compare quantity and weight of these arguments against the arguments for choice. I have heard quite some convincing arguments why the customers should have choice, but I really have not yet heard a lot of arguments that prove, that the user is better of with being denied the choice between subscription and perpetual.
  14. I Don't think Daves post was by any means for or against SAAS. It just describes the situation we are in. Companies only care about profits and we will not change that. And I found the Numbers very interesting to be honest. Maxon will only start to look into licensing again, when their revenue gets down and most propably not even then, because this money making system is just to good to be true for them 🙂
  15. From the customer's point of view, there is no real reason to abandon perpetuals. Just as there was never any real reason to make perpetuals more expensive than subscription. This decision only benefits Maxon as a company. And the end of perpetual licenses was planned from the beginning, that is my conviction. I made sure that they earned much less from me than the previous years with MSA. Even if that gets lost in the noise, of course. I do a lot of work for customers with their own licenses and I can handle my projects well with R20 and octane. And if I really need a new version (like just now) then I rent it for a month. Emotionally, Maxon has suffered with me similar to Adobe, from which I have also as good as detached. And shall I tell you something? for 3D compositting Resolve is simply much better imho 🙂 Let's see what I discover, thanks to maxon's decision to give up perpetual.
  16. For me low noise is a important feature, too. and Workstations like Dell or HP are always to loud for me. therefor I build my own Workstations myself. I have no experience with Puget systems, but from the components they use they should be better then the others but not optimal ether.
  17. You might want to look into a dedicated construction programs like MOI or fusion 360 for tasks like that. You can tesselate and export it as you need it for c4d. it is such a difference - you will love it.
  18. There is a lot of truth in here. I think that despite the growing education in computer knowledge there is something like over complexity for the mayor user base. especially as most users are artists not engineers. Imho xpresso represented this sweet spot between power and ease of use quite well. also material node systems like octane for example. quite some developments of c4d in the last years are on the powerfull but not so easy to use side.
  19. Thats what I thought when I heard C4D 2023 and it is exactly what we predicted, when subscription came up 3 Years ago. Using R25 as a last perpetual version is just another expression of their contempt of this kind of license and customer.
  20. I thought that we would get flooded with capsules and that many of them would be integrated into the menues like "normal" features. I thought that this was the step they needed to crank up developement speed. Did I miss something? Did they produce capule features but didn't talk about it? what about Redshift CPU? I thought they wanted to speed it up as it is hardly usable right now in R26. symetry is great and usabel for everyone. cloth is quite special interest but looks good. Watch folder ist good, but should have been there already. Selection tags for parametric objects is super great though. that is one of the features that flies under the radar, but is just great. Last question. On the website they didn't change the perpetual c4d version to 2023 yet. Thats is just a oversight, right? thanks and have a nice day
  21. You forgot to mark it as Irony 🙂
  22. Its not that I don't like the new versions. It is obvious that there was done quite somthing under the hood. The features of the last updates stack up and capules is a thing, but also the price stacks up. Its been 3 Years since R21 and therefor 3 times 800€ = 2400€, they don't seem to give discount to get older perpetual users back. I don't need the update but would consider it If they had a good offer, thats what I wanted to express.
  23. a acceptable offer for perpetual updates 🙂 Not shure if the new features since R21 are worth 2400€. I once in a while use new versions and therefor I have a quite strong opinion about that 🙂
  24. https://www.animationmagazine.net/technology/dreamworks-animation-to-release-moonray-renderer-as-open-source-software/ If someone els already mentioned it, sorry, but I couldn't find a way to search the forum.
  25. yes a seperator would be the way to do it. you could try "vertical tags" (cant check if they still have it, as I am back to R20 right now) Of course there are many things that are good with the new UI but the icons, the missing whitespace or orther means to make orientation easier, the missing optical seperation of floating windows and the fact, that the active corners change the aspect ratio of the 3D view need work though.
