  1. So they're like Mac users. 😜
  2. I use two BenQ monitors that I can recommend: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1308751-REG/benq_pd3200u_32_led_monitor_3840x2160.html?ap=y&smp=y https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1279881-REG/benq_pd2700q_27_led_2560x1440.html
  3. The Standard and Physical renderers can't make any use of the GPU and are so old, slow and deceptive that no one in their right mind should use them in this day and age but R20 does offer a fairly limited and basic version of ProRender which does use the GPU. I personally used it myself as an introduction to GPU rendering before moving on to Octane which is much more full featured.
  4. Notes and quick Notes? Is this presentation actually a comedy skit or what? 🙃😁😄
  5. Yup. r20 is my favorite version not tied to servers. Like others said, If you have r20 and a sn for it, you should just use that and treasure it.
  6. The other option here is to make the studio background invisible to the camera, render with an alpha channel, and composite whatever background color, gradient or image you like. This is how 3D product shots are generally done in my experience.
  7. I missed what you wrote before my last post, but It does seem you answered your own question. 😃 Between deformers, Mograph, and generators, there are multiple ways to tackle problems like these that aren't always immediately apparent.
  8. I suggest in this case using a Sweep object using a partial arc and interpolate the number of points however you want by changing its interpolation setting. That gives you complete control of the segmentation.
  9. Thanks. I think it would help if this jobs forum would be elevated to the front page and not a footnote in a sub forum. Or maybe a notification option for job postings.
  10. I posted a job here on January 9 here for someone skilled in C4D and Octane rendering who could work with me thru end of March (and actually went to end of April (just finished it) and I got exactly zero responses. The jobs forum takes some effort to find so not sure if too few people saw the post or if too few people are in need of work, but in the midsts of a pandemic I did think there would be some interest. So honestly I still don't know where a good place to find freelancers might be.
  11. I wasn't certain how it would come out either so we both learned some things.
  12. Update. We did a print test of a 100 dpi image and the same one upressed to 300 dpi. On close inspection, client could see stepping in the 100 dpi image when viewed close up with a magnifier, but couldn't tell the difference between the two after a few inches away. I explained to client that there are also other types of resolution that also must be considered beyond just pure dpi, and that it would be a colossal waste of time to actually render at full 300 dpi and we settled on rendering at 100 dpi and upressing as suggested here. Thanks to all who contributed.
  13. Thank you CBR for this. I had seen it before but appreciate you linking to it again for me. It's good to know it's there.
  14. Thank you Bjorn. The problem I have is the crazy people at the Printing place my client uses told them they print at 300 dpi and client is determined. Do you know of any authoritative paper or written guidelines that I could point client to by chance?
  15. Hi. I have a client that wants me to render 4x8 foot prints at 300 dpi. That would amount to a resolution of 14,400 x 28,800, which would be the equivalent of a 414 megapixel camera. There being no such camera in existence, short of frame shifting and stitching, I can not see how this makes sense. Anyone have experience printing images at this scale and can advise would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Greetings. I am looking for one or more freelancers to work remotely on and off from between about now to the end of March who are skilled at Octane render lighting and special effects such as fog and volumetric particle glows. If interested, please contact me by dm with brief details about your skills, your availability and your regular freelance day rate if you don't mind sharing that.
  17. I've heard better sales pitches. 😎

Is there a recent discussions list somewhere so that users don't have to look through every subforum for recent posts?

    Will work for free

Really? Does anything beat working for free?
  21. Hi ladies and gents. I am pretty good with Cinema 4D, but I can't find anyone to even pay me minimum wage for my skills, even though I live and work in Manhattan, New York. Anyway, I like working so I am offering to work for free, as long as I can use whatever I produce for you in my reel. If you have an interesting job which you want done for free, hit me up.
