  1. Just a quick point of view from me, because the topic recently came up: I’m one of those Blender converts still hanging around here being angry at Maxon and McGravran. The reason is not that I’m not happy with Blender. Blender is great since v2.80. But it’s by no means perfect. Cinema 4D does some things exceptionally well, like the object manager and interface in general. For anyone really invested in this, it’s not so easy to just leave. As several others in this thread said, learning Cinema 4D was a massive, decade long investment of money and time. I have several perpetual versions up until R21 still around and still being used for older customer projects. Why not use them? They did cost real money. I was a longtime MSA customer. I was really attached to the spirit of Maxon. It is difficult to get the rug pulled from under you by a company one relied on for almost decades. It feels abusive to have paid the MSA for years for the most expensive version and then being treated like shit unless converted to a subscription. And to be honest: It’s a little heartbreaking seeing the software I learned CGI on being neglected for many many years in the productive parts – and on the other hand resources are put in areas that are clearly there to push people even harder to subscriptions (Content Library, Online Activation etc.). The promise that finally all the neglected things will get updated is now many years old. The new core was promised years ago. Everybody has a different breakpoint where one doesn’t believe these promises anymore. Some people in this thread still believe R27 will finally be it. I wonder when they will give up… The thing is: yeah, converting to Blender was not easy and is still an ongoing thing. Some things are better, some worse. Not everything is rosy over there. But even not paying another Euro to Maxon, I’m still invested in this program. R21 will occasionally be opened in the coming years. The process of learning a different program is not done over two weekends. No matter if it is Houdini, Maya or Blender. I’m just finishing first customer projects in Blender after ~1 year of learning. I will definitely be back here when S26/R27 comes around, still hoping the cheerful, customer centric spirit in Maxon is still there deeply hidden within the company they have become; and some of their hostile moves will be reversed—or the new core will finally pay off. Maybe this day i will buy another perpetual. But until then it’s just prudent and healthy to seriously look at other solutions. R21 will not forever keep working (and it’s slow compared to more modern programs). But for some over here this just can’t be a clear cut, never looking back. It’s sad. I’m a little sad. Yes, it’s just another company, just another software in a sea of great CGI programs. But Maxon/C4D were different, long ago. The anger at McGravran is clearly grounded in all the bad changes that either directly were his cause or coincide with his taking duty where he may or may not be to blame (endless core rewrite) I tend to the later; I think the core rewrite is just taking many years longer than they anticipated. But the hostile business changes for paying longtime customers are to put at his feet.

  2. And that is something the MSA (which I paid year by year in advance from its inception up to its demise) did not do?

  3. For me the CTRL+Right click is a weird behavior and ask me too much thinking about what I need to press to make it efficient, and that's why I made this plugin 🙂 Find bellow the R25 version for windows only, I will compile for Mac later today (not notarized) and create a new release on Github. axis_constraint.zip

  4. My wording could have been better. Here is what I mean about this: I have been in the software business for 24 years now, and have noticed a few things. I like to call this “feature maturity”, or “functions saturation”. This applies to both hardware and software. I have an HP Photosmart ink printer, bought in 2000. It is still a reliable workhorse. Go figure.. a printer more than two years old in 1998 would have been replaced, immediately. My main computer is a powerful beast I built myself in 2010. I have Adobe CS6, the last one they released as perpetual, almost ten years I think. And to me it is so advanced, I will never discover all the things I can use it for. So to the point: I sincerely believe that it is not so much the hardware / software which is the limitation anymore, but more the artist her/himself. Some of us have come to the point when good is good enough. The stupefying availability of all kinds of multimedia software in 2021 will already allow you to create almost any imaginable and unimaginable artistry. Let's take Microsoft Office. What do you really miss in Office 2010, that will force you to subscribe to Office 365? Finally: Me thinks that the big software companies have problems with a steady income, because customers, due to the aforementioned conditions, may skip a version or three. The curve has been flattened. And the solution: Subscription. -Ingvar

Dials is a Cinema 4D plugin, which allows you to set up a list of most used tools and commands. These are presented as a circular palette to select from. Directly available from the 3D viewport. Settings for a tool can also be stored as different favourites Documentation available in the documentation folder of the plugin. Different toolsets can be set up and recalled via scripts (one included as example in documentation folder). original discussion thread: https://www.core4d.com/ipb/forums/topic/103440-dials-was-wheel-of-tools Plugin supports Cinema4D R16 up to R25, both Windows and macOS.

  6. Except that tons of icons are now missing, and the layouts would just show grey rectangles. If you had an icon-based personal layout, it is now broken and needs to be changed into a text-based one, which takes up much more space (which essentially means that you need a new concept for your layout, and must re-train to use it). Okay, it might not take months to do that but it is a serious impediment, imposed unnecessarily on the unsuspecting customer. Dropping icons right and left should not happen in a "feature" that makes up half the release.

  7. I don't understand this position, as all the old layouts are still available, and you can import your own customized layout as easily as ever. All that's different is the icons and background color. I know learning new icons can be off-putting as I resisted for a couple of years the last time they were changed, but in the end I finally came around and it wasn't difficult at all.

  8. Yes, the R23 version had stability problems. They improved it a lot in S24 and I have no problems with this version. I have worked too little with the R25 to judge its stability, but so far I have not seen any problems. For the full transition to the R25, I am waiting for the repair of the missing icons. Help from Maxon said they are working on a solution to this problem. If the missing icons appear, we will switch to the R25 in our studio.

  9. This is by far, the best summary of the current sentiment here. Thanks @Macgyver

  10. Choose to use an old layout and it will behave as it always has.

  14. Those aren't better than MS Office and are also subscription based. There are free alternatives to MS Office that are file-type compatible that are 90% as good. And there are novel solutions that are super and available for perpetual license fee.

  15. So smooth! Really love the details of the tiny bevels of lines on the left side of the putter!

  16. One other comment....the robots eyes. He is looking right at the wall before he breaks through it. Shouldn't he be looking to the left (his right) and at the opening rather than looking at what he is going to run into? When he scraped the wall earlier, he was not looking at where he was going to scrape the wall but rather was looking to where he needed to go. So he should again be looking at where he needed to go before he breaks through the wall and that would be the opening to the left of the impact point. Dave

  17. For the quickness of the shot after the impact, I think less is more and right now it works for me. ...but with that said, if you want to add a bit more realism and "punch" to that shot, I think you need to increase the level of dust being created. Right now, it seems to be a 2D element added in AE (and very faint for that matter) when it should be generated by the concrete particles themselves and follow their same dynamic trajectory. Are you using X-Particles? XP can handle mutli-physic simulations (volume breaking generating particles that can drive a smoke simulation). There is no native fluid system in C4D so purchasing a plugin to add a few frames of additional realism may not be cost effective...though XP is such an amazing plugin, you will never regret owning it. But if money is tight, as I said before, right now it works for me given how quickly the shot lasts. Dave

  18. Now to something completely different: Can anybody tell how R25 relates in terms of stability? Background info: I seldomly use R23 because it's crashing relatively often (several times a day on complex projects), compared to R21 (sometimes) or R18 (never ever).
