for me you Guys don't need to do anything, besides keeping it running (and I am thankful for that). It just sounded like you wanted it to get bigger and asked for input. And maybe you can work on the bug that doesn't let you submit your response as long the advertising is blended in at the button. (btw. I have nothing against advertising)

I think that there is a lot of content here in the forum. Maybe it would be a good idea to utilize this. If a thread with a good question gets a good answer you could feature them and make some sort of question and answer area (basically a small tutorial) Copy the thread delete the unimportant answers and voila. This features could be mirrored to twitter and facebook to get c4dcafe some publicity.

good to hear, that the numbers are positive. Maybe the culture in the web is changing over time. And I also can imagine that people find much more answers right away then years ago.

Today it looks more like a show of and fan thing to me. Therefor I miss the open equality that comes with a forum.

So maybe I should have said C4D has left its niche. And blender itself is some sort of community project so its forums are better populated. So where do I have to go then to find the rest of the scene 🙂

So not even MAXON knows where the scene has moved to? Well there is so much training material around that people might just not have to ask questions, but on the other hand there is so much besides that to have a chat about. it may well be that 3d has left its niche and therefore the feeling of community has been lost. But on the other hand I have the impression, that there are some blender forums out there that are very well populated.

I think it still is oddly silent. even after the publication of the Neutron news everything feels so calm and quiet. Is it because forums are not the place to be anymore, is it because covid drove so many out of business or maybe people don't get the impression, that the news really affect them? Or maybe I am the only one that feels that way? best regards Jops
  8. That would be fantastic. I am really looking forward to this, but hopefully that doesn't mean "as the material, render system" there we have the best of three worlds 😂.
  9. I am not shure what you are up to and therefor there are many anwers to your question. But shader effectors are not to change shaders, but to change clones acording to textures. make them bigger where the shader is white for example. so I have two posibilities for you. first make the clones to indiviual objects (you can still change them with effectors, but putting materials on them is straight forward. or use a mograph colorshader and fallofs or selections. Look into the mograph selection tool! that might be the best way to go. here are examples. best regards JopsCatan 4_falloff.c4dCatan 4_indiviual objects.c4d
  10. people also praised the new transparency (plenty of posts since MAXON started to communicate more openly). But the core is a special thing. people are waiting for it for many years now and as many of them feel the developement of the other features slow down because of it. For years and years the new object handling was expected for the next version. So it is not just friendly to communicate more openly, but it also is a smart thing to do. Never the less people where under the impression (as maybe also MAXON) that a new object handling wouldn't need 10+ years to develop. So the disappointment is understandable.
  11. Neuton looks very promissing, even though I would loved to see more examples. I also like MAXON to release information about it. If they hadn't, no one would ever believe that they are still working on faster object handling. As I understand MAXON is doing the real big step here. That is bold and hopefully smart. What makes me a bit sad is, that It looks like it will still need a lot of time to get the tech integrated it into a new object manager. I will have to calculate If I am going to get i into my hands before I retire :). ok. thats a bit of a joke, but it will take quite some time (MAXON folks are very cautious with their words in this regard (which is better then the other way round)). There are many things that I would like to see improved besides the object handling (how do you guys make sphereical effects, hace, smoke and dust?), the chaos of renderengines and materials need to be sorted out. And there is so many other stuff that needs attention not to mention the new features I would like. I guess we will see some more years of slow improvements. Hopefully to get all the speed and features all together, but when will this be? Therefor I understand maxons push for subscription. Even though I most probably would have kept my MSA, I am not so shure If I will upgrade perpetual for the new price. best regards Jops
  12. So right now its a Mograph on steroids? But will at some point be the base for everything. Till that happens the speed gain only affects the "neutons" but not the objects living in the object manager. And when this happens is not jet foreseeable?! thanks, Jops
  13. Neutron can be a huge step in several ways. It will be interesting to see how much of it finds its way to the next release. But I also have the fear, that MAXON is giving away its unique easy to use UX. As we saw starting with reflectance and then the very complex material node system. We have 3 renderengines right now with 3 different types of material setups and i am not talking about redshift. If this translates to object handling and editor views (the normal one, advanced open gl, performance and neuton) I think that the advances could well come at the cost of usability. best regards Jops

the other posibility, ... well MAXON has recently been more focused on acquiring other companies ... It is a bit early for R22 isn't it?

jay lets go 🙂 speculation : (to get this thread going 🙂 Considering the planed price increase (perpetual vers. MSA) they will have to have something they would consider worth it for R22 (or how they will call it). My guess is, that the core rewrite now comes to the object manager at last > Faster object handling. Or that they include Redshift. One or both of this news I was expecting for September. So I am a bit surprised with this event now. I am not shure If we get news like this today:)
  16. If you use xpresso in the headline and discribe your need well you have a good chance to get help here within a day (if it is not to complicated). btw. it is impossible to give a rate per xpresso solution, as you can make setups for days and days depending of the problem 🙂 or you just need 5 min. for something simple. You will learn the simple stuff fast anyway. best regards Jops

    you nailed it 🙂
  18. I can give this compliment back for the moinstance 🙂
  19. Hi Jed, thanks, yes this is the way to do it properly in xpresso, 🙂. Nice setup:) As I understood it capnat is quite new to xpresso, so I wanted to show him a setup he could get into easily. BTW. I like this thread. Small task with different solutions 🙂 Thanks to all, Jops
  20. and here as southpaw suggested the solution with the Moinstance and a step effector to add the depth. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂 Moinstance.c4d
  21. in this file you find the priciples. first is a memory node to make the delay and after that the vector gets split into its xyz values to add depth. I hope you find it from here. best regards Jops position_delay.c4d
  22. long, long time ago there was a material based bool plugin (that made booleans not by calculating geometry, but by making materials invisible (it was fast and stable. RBoole. unfortunately it is not arround anymore 😞 )) I have no idea wy this plugin was not used widely (and was discontinued by insydium who bought the rights for it), as it was perfect for this kind of animations.
  23. looking at rfanoni's post even the resellers are confused. In principle a new deal with the posibility to hold the R21 license is a good thing. But why only active MSA Holders? They should get S22 anyway. And the ones that don't have a active MSA anymore... well MAXON canceld them not the users. It is just a matter of luck or bad luck if someone still has a MSA or not. Sorry to say this but it is still a chaos. and yes: 5G doesn't cause corona! No doubt about that. We should add this statement to every post 🙂
  24. seems to me that all this confusion is intentional. They had a quite some tme to clear this up or change things, but posting in a forum once in a while is not really the way to clarify things officially for a company. They didnt change a thing with comunication and they are sticking to their plan. Therefore the confusion is intentional.
  25. Just for c4d subscription not for c4d perpetual. Redshift also for perpetual though.
